Really love the show! Fun fact about Marin: they are welded in East Java, Indonesia (and I believe some budget hardtail models from GT, such as the Aggressor as well) in the Polygon factory, which itself is one of the biggest cycling company in Indonesia. Polygon and Marin once collaborated to develop the Polygon Xquarone and Marin Wolfridge, none of which are unfortunately budget bikes xD maybe that could also be a hint on which bike brand you guys should get for the next project, since Polygon is also sold in the US and Canada and if the price is right ;)
I belive poly owns marin. The marin edridge, and rift zone iirc are either very closely related or exactly the same as their polygon counterparts. It's like gm/Chrysler badge engineering. Very similar or exact same bikes
Thanks brother, appreciate the back story and the info as well. It's amazing who makes what and how most are related! Kinda like here in arkansas!!
@@eugene44569 Sort of. If I remember correctly, Marin was in shambles after the 2007-2008 monetary crisis. They were hanging by a thread until I guess 2015. It was a big year for Polygon, they underwent this "rebranding", in which their entire lineup was completely updated, and I guess in the same year they decided to purchase 40% share of Marin. So, theoretically no, Marin is still not owned by Polygon, since they do not control more than 50% of Marin's share, but practically yes, Marin is part of Polygon :D
Thanks unnamed patreon member as well as WolfTick nation for this review!
Would LOVE to see you guy put a Cane Creek 40-Series Tapered Headset Conversion Set (1-1/8" Crown Race). This can be used to convert a 44mm straight head tube to accept a tapered fork. I am able to run a FOX fork on a specialized rockhopper. This part can open up upgrades for many budget bikes.
Gotcha man, we will be playing with headsets for sure. We are a little more interested in a more slacked out headset, but I am sure we will be trying both. Thanks man
That’s awesome to see a Marin on the channel, to confirm it’s pronounced me-rin, like the town, one thing that’s cool about Marin is that all their bikes are named after towns in Marin, bolinis ridge is on the coast, the Sausalito is the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge, I’m excited to see where this bike goes!
Yeah that's why Wolfman keeps correcting me. He is originally from a few counties up from Marin County, but we have a reputation to uphold and are required to mess with names of stuff🤣. Thanks man and look for the Realtime Review soon.👍
Man I've almost pulled the trigger on one of these Marins before, its nice how they come with a freehub and cassette. Looks like they have someone tune the derailleur pretty well out of the box. I love JensonUSA- genuine parts in retail packaging at great prices. After almost wrecking when my chinese CORKI amazon brake pads failed... I now buy most of my stuff from Jenson. The search filters on Jenson work a lot better than amazon.
Wow good to know, we may have to. Check that out man. Get some drunken Jenson on!! LOL
It was a bike, I was way off!! Very cool of your anonymous donor to send you a bike! Interested to see how the Marin stacks up against a stock big box bike.
HA ha you were correct!! LOL Now just got done filming 🎥 the Marin!! See ya next week man
Marin makes some good stuff, nice to see a budget offering from them
Very nice you are right, cannot wait to share our thoughts. Thanks CHUCKU nice to see ya brother.
Marin nice bike you are a lucky boy lol very nice of the person to send it to you looks great
Man we are very grateful, and such a nice gesture from our patron. Thanks man
Like the GT. This could be an amazing bike with some upgrades 👍
Agree man, this thing is sweet and cannot wait to ride! We will see how it goes, see ya next week man. Thanks
Awesome channel. Really enjoy seeing affordable bikes. Keep it up
Thanks brother, we appreciate the comment and we will see ya next week! Thanks 😊
I wanted a Marin San Quentin 2 in 27.5 before I got my 1999 Specialized FSR Sport. I still love the Marin but, I will have a full suspension bike that is better equipped when I am done with it and less money spent. That's a good frame to build on especially over time.
Completely understand man, the bike looks to be a great platform. We will see ua next week and as always, thanks for commenting.
Hey hey you took my advice about this gauge on the spokes awesome ❤️🐺❤️
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS have a great Friday night don't party too hard wolftick and wolfman
Nice looking bike, and Jenson has good prices on MTB's. I'm still injured and was in Dicks and yes the GT Aggressor starting price is $600.00 and still using last several years parts just different colors. Gentlemen as always continue to stay blessed, humbled and safe. Oh another Wolf Tic outstanding review.
You have your work cut out for you! That’s a sweet looking bike right out of the box.
Man William, it is a sweet looking ride and such a cool way for one to be shipped. I am a fan so far, and we just filmed today!! See ya on the patreon man🙏
Wow. Wolftick movin on up. I considered this bike. End up buying a Rocky mountian fusion 30 in XL. Only payed $799 online
Wow those bikes have a good reputation around here, a local bike shop carrys them. We have thought about actually doing a build.
the preload is only meant to adjust the sag, so aside from ride height, it does not really affect the performance of the forks
Marin bikes great bikes, especially budget ones. Definitely one of my favorite MTB brands. Great video man 👍👍
Thanks man, they do get alot of attention. I really like the attention to detail. Seems like a solid bike! Very nice of our patron👍👍
This is a quality budget option. I agree with you about the integrated brake shifter; they make it hard to upgrade. It's probably why we see that set up more on big box bikes with a free wheel instead of a free hub.
Gotcha man, it's a little thing compared to some of the other features. Gonna be a cool build! Thanks GL333N
I shop at Jenson all the time and didn't remember the Marin bikes! ja ja ja ja ja NICE OORAH
YESSSS!!!!! I love Marin i have a full suspension 29er from Marin i love them god im so hyped for this lol Get after it guys
We are excited too! We are actually about to head to Hot Springs and film the Realtime Review. Thanks man👍
Those look promising. Proper pivots, decent drivetrain, mostly decent parts.
Nice, Exciting for new bike brand review! That name is brutal though I keep thinking spaghetti bolognese so maybe it’s Project Meat Sauce! Happy Friday Gents! 🍻 looking forward to real time review and for you to sink your meat hooks, I almost said beef curtain into this project! Lol
😁😁😉 BEED CIRTAINS!! LOL Now very cool bike and we look so much forward to the realtime and dad keeps calling it CHEECH!
Super awesome guys….we’re going to bet it’s a bike!!👍👍
Haha good guess! We are so excited to review this bike and are heading to Hot Springs now to do it. Hope you guys have some of this weather that we have rightnow.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS yeah it’s supposed to go up to almost 70 this weekend maybe some of these mounds of snow on our tree line will finally melt☃️☃️☃️
Sweet looking bike. I appreciate their color schemes. Not too crazy but not too bland either. Also, I got my wheels built up! I'll send yall an email about the process of it all later. It was a good time and a fun experience. I would do it again. I will however be taking them to a local bike shop to get checked out for safety reasons haha cant wait to throw them on next week and give them a spin!
Man have fun and appreciate the update. Good luck and good idea with the getting them checked first!! LOL
Can't wait to see the upgrades this this!!! Do you have the OG shifters from the GT?? Perhaps just reuse those and go 1x...
Man it's gonna be epic!! LOL Let's see how it goes on the Meow Meow!! The shifters we still may have???
Park tools video called "Square Peg, Round Hole | Tech Tuesday #155" talks about how the square taper spindle and crank fit together. Not all square tapers and crank arms are compatible. It has to be a good fit. Looking for there to be some space left for the bolt to compress the arm down onto the spindle - if spindle fits perfect into the crank arm with no effort it's the wrong spec and you need shorter square taper so there's room there for the torque of the bolt to keep the arm on the spindle
Nice.... That's a good price for a solid bike with a good brand name. All decent components too. 🧐 Yeah. That baby is good to go right out the box.
Can't wait to see how the test ride goes.
I really like what Marin have to offer, currently trying to sell my Rift Zone 29er and get me the newer 650b
Nice man, it seems they really focus on the details and we like thay very much. Thanks brother
i had a Marin Bobcat 26er for about 5 years and ended up giving it away. I miss it lol
Dad used to ride a 26er diamondback before I was alive and loved it, he gave it away also🥺
Hmmmm maybe a Kona hardtail???
Edit: ohhhh sweet!! I was off, but that Marin is awesome! You know, I actually thought it might be a Marin but then I changed to Kona just because haha. It looks really great guys, can't wait to see the upgrades come along on it!
MARIN! Lol Thanks for the comment and the view as always brother. The maein is gonna be a fun project, we will see ya next week!!
I wonder how the geometry compares to the "big box store" bikes? I think sometimes Tick needs a small instead of medium especially the way he likes to hop/whip around.
Not too sure, the numbers are listed but you know us and our SCIENCE!! We filmed today and while on a 27.5 your "step up" got me!! We will see ya on the patreon, maybe we will give yall that crash!! 😉
@Brandi Hodges Yes, he did. But he refused to put his gloves, knee, and elbow pads on.🤦♂️
I was thinking a Marin because of the brands JensonUSA carries, but I had no idea of which model. This should be a good frame to upgrade over time, especially to get rid of the triple
Absolutely agree man, we had no clue!! Very cool and you are right, that 3x is a drag!! Thanks John
Suntour XCM fork ... after a few rides let us know if the fork has play in the stantions ... grease seat post? just saying ... great vid
Yo what's up X! That's a good idea, the suntours hold up well over time but let's see how much play. Also the seatpost was actually greased! LOL Gotta love the named brand stuff. Thanks Brother
It wasn’t that long ago that bike had a starting price of $480. Things have definitely gotten more expensive, which makes some of the big box bikes stand out more to newer riders. Still cool video bro, dig the bike.
Yes. Everything has definitely gone up for sure. There is definitely some small touches like sealed bb, and headset to name a few. We should have a Realtime Review out in a week or so. Thanks man👍
I was hoping you would provide the RxS (cm)/30,000 for the size. A lot of the cheaper and older bikes only have 16 points of engagement. My 2005 Specialized only had 16. The Industry 9 Hydra has 690. Spin the rear tire 360 degrees and count the clicks. Inquiring minds want to know.
Wooolf Mannn Dynoooo! love it
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Wolf Man, after so many dyno tests your feel has got to be spot on!
Have you guys heard about the new Kent 29er available at Walmart? It's cheaper then the Schwinn Axum with better specs
We actually have one on order. Can't wait to see it in person. Thanks man, hopefully you will be watching.
Have you seen those straight steerer to tapered conversion head sets
Absolutely, that's what we were eluding to when we were talking about the headset options.
Dressed up like a douche...
Hahaha great reference..that was a fantastic episode.. good break down..
Stay frosty brother
😂😂🤣 Now is the correct word he uses!! LOL I thought it was wrapped up, whatever the hell ever it is you are the only one who mentioned it!🤘🤘 PERFECT
Great bike great price 👍 👏 👌 They are now selling Marin bikes on bikes online.
. Any new bike in that price range is going to have square taper crank Youll just have to buy a rear shifter to do hydraulic brakes My wifes alluminum comp hade those integrated levers
Nice, we will see were we go from here. It is a shame it has he shifters man!!
$599????? Wow it’s selling now for $699…I guess that’s due to inflation or maybe those are San Francisco prices…I just got one for my long-legged teenager. It’s Maaaaa-Rin…Great reviews, this one and the riding review of this bike!
😉😉😜 Thanks for the comment and I I a complete opposite! No LONG LEGS 😥😥😥
34 is not bad at all! That fork is like 6lbs! I got 34.5 when i weighed the Aggressor Pro
Man you are right!! I think it may be the lightest of all the bikes so far, rode today and will report back next week!!
ok i bet for a marin hardtail.
edit : i was spot on xD, i think it was either that or a polygon at that price, and i don't think jonhson carries polygon. looks very nice quality bike for the price. shifter is a let down as well as this long seat tube that won't let you down 🤣
It's nice, but I'm not sure how much better if any it is than that Head bike we just got. It has a name to it and that helps. Thanks man and nice guess!👍
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS it was really random, i was looking at marin bikes earlier today haha. The finish on the frame looks better on the marin. But maybe it's the camera
That's a sweet budget bike. Looks like some decent quality parts.
Man it kinda checks all the boxes LOL, let's see how she rides!! Thanks for watching the video brother😁
Definitely get rid of the brake / shifter combo. And change crank. Change forks and it could be a epic hardtail
Not going to coment on u'r loob job this time 😄 broke 3 tier levers yesterday when canging back to summer tiers. Winter spikes on stone slab not fun when it lost grip and slid out on the top of a steercase 😟
🤣🤣🙏 That was just for you brother!! Glad you are gonna have some warm weather to ride in!! See ya next week and yes, lube was for ya!!
They do that for a cost thing it's cheaper granted it's not the best but it will work
Marin is also a bike shop brand so I'd you buy a Marin I would get it at a dealer. If you purchase a Marin off dtc better off getting polygon
Based off of what? Some people like different things, but when you say something like that, we like to know why.
Of course it would be a Marin! Lol. It's a Jenson box! They sell them at the local not for profit Bike Kitchen here.
Marin sounds exactly like marine ..... exactly and it is a spanish last name . The logo is a bear because they are built in Marin County , California .
From Jenson, I'm going to guess a Marin hardtail.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS my buddy just got his new Marin full sus he's been waiting over a year and a half for. Crazy times.
😆 15:00 " I can tell the difference finally when I get down into it" leave it to me to take it there 🤦🤷😂
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS love you guys! Keep up the good work and congratulations on your success! Much more success and blessings coming y'alls way
I'm not seeing where you can buy this bike for $480.00
Man I understand, the Patron told us it was bought with $50 off apparently on a sale. Here is a link i found for a small one
www.cardinalbikes.com/product/marin-bolinas-ridge-2-370486-1.htm?variations=39394,39395,39396?
jenson is good stuff, their actually half an hourvfrom me
That's cool man, everyone compliments there site. We gotta check them out.
I wasn't first. Damn you UA-cam notifications! 😡
Man it seems like alot of the #wolfticknation does not get them??? Total conspiracy! LOL
That bike looks exactly like any other budget bike on the market .
Well it compares to the slightly higher budget bikes like the GT Aggressor Pro, Axum, and Head JRA27. Especially the GT and Head bikes.
It's definitely not the best bike on the market but looks pretty average as far as price to spec, getting a name brand direct to consumer with a warranty is definelty worth it though
It's It's it's a MARIN
Only reason I even knew was cuz I was just on that site the specific make was just a guess.
Feature? Its just a headset...
It being a name brand sealed bearing headset on a bike that's sub $500, I do consider it being a feature👍GT has a ball bearing design...
I like it, but TOOO BIGfor the Tick! I’d put a motor on it- pronounced -Muh-rinn!
😁😁 We will see and did not expect any less from you when it comes to a motor!! See ya next week man.
It's definitely a jenson 😂
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I was also very wrong 😂😂😂 it's a great looking bike, looking forward to the real time review.
Early one from me today 😁
Take care guys 🍻🍺😎
I kept watching thinking that the saving grace of this bike would be weight... and it isn't. Nothing here says "600 dollar bike"
Well first of all thanks for watching🥰👍. I hear what you are saying, but do you feel the same at $480? It seems that people will except a little less features for a "brand name" or a bike shop bike. The weight was pretty good for having a 3X and coil fork though. I'm guessing if we were to change out the fork and put a 1X we would be around 28 or 29ish lbs. Thanks man
@WOLFTICK VIDEOS love your work. Been catching vids since I got back into the sport last season.
At 480 it seems a little more reasonable, but I'd still want to see a 1x drive train at the price point. Schwinn, mongoose, heck, even hyper is doing it in the sub 500 category.
@Deviant Gaming Thanks man. We always like to hear people's thoughts and opinions. It's good to have options, even if it's not what we find to be a good value. Thanks again man👍
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS yours was one of the reviews I watched before I ordered my axum!
listen to your dad on the pronunciation.
It's pronounced mah-rin. That bike isn't too impressive
We are going to name it Cheech. The Wolfman has told me a million times but we have to miss pronounce things or it wouldn't be us🤣. Thanks man👍
I want to get into mountain biking and I wanted something decent I could get onto without breaking the bank. After watching your video, you helped me decide on this bike for my 1st bike. Thank you guys for being so detailed on explaining the ups and downsides of the marin. Wolftick gained a new subscriber today. I look forward to seeing future videos. Thanks again!
