    This is one of the better versions of Luisa's monologue that I've seen on here, but it still borders on playing her as silly and kind of stupid, rather than a teenager going through a lot of emotions and discovering that she's really alive for the first time. She did a really good job with the singing, though! I did the monologue for class and I REALLY wish I could do the musical...sigh..

    From a retired Bellamy, who worked with several "Luisas" over the years, this one was "Fantastick"! Loved her voice, and her expressions. Thanks for posting.

    A wonderful Luisa. I played the girl's father way too many years ago, and am just blown away by this performance. I hope she goes on to bigger and better things.

    Just once I'd like to hear this sublime song reinterpreted in a new, fresh and transformative way. Not the cookie-cutter Disney princess conventional manner that it's always presented. Yes, I want more....much more.

    Each performer has a bit of a different delivery, interpretation, and vocal ability, so comparing one to another is pointless. If one is preferred, that's fine, but don't expect another to live up to it, because you'll ALWAYS be disappointed. Instead, celebrate individuality. Try to start with a clear slate and allow an unknown actor to tell his story to you from scratch, without expectations. It's hard, but try to pick out what you LIKE and/or what's unique in a new singer's performance.

    Of course she's crazy.
    That's even how El-Gaio describes her in the play ("incurably insane").

  • @ktasd19
    @ktasd19 14 років тому

    Actually the original script says, "And as I was brushing it, my hair turned gold." It was changed to mauve and the necklace replaced her hair. Different revivals have the line stated differently and they according to what I've read they did change it for that reason, they wanted the necklace to seem more important and therefore more of a shock when it is taken from her.

    just remember that a audition monologue should be at least 30 seconds and no more than 50 seconds, unless asked for longer.

  • @ookete
    @ookete  14 років тому

    @HanaRose95 Yes, that's what he says. I believe that was an old fashioned way to make necklaces, was with some kind of paste. Basically he's saying that Luisa had an imitation necklace that belonged to her mother, and she believed it was real.

  • @damechastain
    @damechastain 15 років тому

    I was under the impression that it was the original line, but if it isn't, in any case it's being used in the revival on 50th St (Snapple Theatre). I think it gives the necklace more significance, more of an impact on Luisa's fantastic state of mind (pun intended), and I think when she loses it the audience feels that pain more.

    She is FANTASTIK. (Lol see wat I did thar?) XD
    This used to be a fave audition song of mine from back in the day. I haven't sung it since College...
    Love the slightly ditzy-neurotic take on it. Nothing TOO over-the-top, but believable from a girl of 16.

  • @damechastain
    @damechastain 15 років тому +1

    I prefer the monologue done with "The minute the jewels touched my skin my eyes turned mauve."

    @lilmisbroadway34 The actress in this clip actually has a channel where you can view some other songs she has performed. Her channel is "ladivamusica".

  • @ookete
    @ookete  15 років тому +2

    I completely disagree. Her Luisa is nowhere near stupid or crazy in this clip. She's a dreamer, though naive. And she grows as the play progresses (see some of the last clips posted). The contrast from this beginning to the end is crucial.
    An actor shouldn't play-act "eccentric", as you suggest. They should drive the motion of the scene according to the character's desires and needs. In this case, Luisa needs to live a life outside her humble sphere and she is entirely caught up in that dream.

  • @ookete
    @ookete  15 років тому

    ah, I see. I do think it's part of the revival, as every script I've worked with before has the lines presented here. They probably revised it to endow the necklace with more significance like you suggest.

  • @ookete
    @ookete  15 років тому +1

    Interesting, I haven't heard that line before. Is it from a revised version of show?
