Funny thing is I used to make fun of Miata but then I moved to Atlanta and ended up buying a Miata and now I’m hooked. The Miata community out here is great.
i hate the miata clubs that go to tail of the dragon, THEY CAN NOT FUCKING DRIVE, iv almost been hit by them more then i have by bikes leaning over the double yellow. cant stay in yo lane stay off the MT.
What a laid back guy. He seems super genuine and really lights up when he talks about his passions! Awesome spotlight, looking forward to the next one!
I agree i can even see a series done where an artist big or small talks about his build especially if it pops. they could even do a poll or have them submit their builds for a chance of a video
My favorite part about this is that he accepts life in progress. I think the Internet and culture today wants to be completed and fully knowledgeable so hyper. It's ok to take your time, take in little bits of info from vets and experts, or try to just do it yourself and learn from mistakes. It's ok to take our time, whether career, art, working on or driving cars, whatever. It's about the journey. This guy seems to have it figured out, I hope he's living happily
Me and my bro loved cars since the 90s and fell in love with Initial D during the VHS fansub era in the 2000's. Now I'm 41 and he's 36 and he owns his dream Miata MX5 and I got my GR86 because of MF Ghost. I still feel so cool when we both meet up at Ihop and blasting the Eurobeat tracks and park our cars side by side lol
I could listen to and watch him for hours! So cool, ok full disclosure, I own a Miata and took a similar path, I also remember the GR Initial D animation and thought it was incredible!
Love to see passions combine to make things that aren't just exciting and cool, but also thought out and authentic. It must be so rewarding getting to animate something you love. Thank you for your service storyboarding the GR86 ad, that car has some incredible marketing content. Plus the well loved Miata ☺
For me, my therapy cars are EVs (i mean high quality, high performance EVs, guys) like the Rimac Nevera. But it's mainly the hypercars like the new Tourbillon, Cadillac V-LMDh, Aston Martin Valkyrie and Valhalla, etc
I love cars and love drawing them and wanted to be a storyboard artist too! You are the dude like who I'd be if I was living my dream life!! So happy for you!!
I once read somewhere that most miata owners are passionate people and you can really feel the passion with this guy. The part where he mentioned "movement" is one of the reason im very much inlove with my miata. Great video, hope this video reach the passionate miata owners
DTLA - my old stomping grounds, I recognize all those roads and of course the new 6th Street Bridge. Great story and so awesome to hear all the work he did on the car himself.
The pop up headlights on the NA is how I sold my wife on a mx5. She was so against getting one and wanted a soft top mustang (eugh, not for English roads, please). So I showed her a few winking and she was instantly sold. So first mod when I eventually get one, make it wink. Still driving a Suzkui Swift Sport, which is hella fun, but you can't have two fun cars on a tight budget.
i LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS VIDEO!!! Shoutout to Speed Racer and initial D fans. Here's to hoping you continue to follow your dreams. Also cannot forget MFGhost fans for the new generation of car enthusiast. GRIP is just....yikes.
can relate to this a lot. When sketching cars or driving the miata I also just listen to drum n base mixes lol (low poly playstation type shi). a good way to escape your surroundings.
ive always wondered why initial D in recent years messed up the heel and toe technique, but it seems it was just the animators being lazy. Your storyboard is exactly how i wouldve expected an initial D storyboard to look like. Well made, realistic with cars, and overall what initial D season 1 feels like. Compare that to the animation recently that removes most of the little details that makes it feel like the characters are driving a car. Honestly I could watch initial D season 1 forever. Timeless imo
Front wheel drive drifts - My first several cars in the 90s were rear wheel drive. Late 70s mustang with a 5.0 V8. 80s NA Supra. 80s NA 300ZX. I got very comfortable drifting. This was before the drift craze in the US. So it was harder to learn. In about 2001 I got my first “real” job (not minimum wage type stuff) and instead of a 10-15 year old car I got a nearly new 1999 integra GSR. Had it for 20 years with a fair amount of (responsible and professional) work done on it. I promise you can drift a front wheel drive car. You definitely won’t sustain a drift but you can initiate MOST of the different drift types. Most people start with a (lame) e brake drift. That still works. But, it’s still lame. A lot of people enjoy (lame) power over drifts which work on RWD and AWD but not FWD. Brake initiated drifts work. Not parking brake. The brake pedal. Clutch initiated drifts work. And the only type of drift that really matters, the inertial drift works just fine, too. With FWD you’re limited in how long you can drift. But, you can walk the back out and either counter steer or do a neutral steer drift just fine. Once you’re comfortable initiating an inertial drift you can make any reasonably balanced car drift. With a FWD and an LSD (the trick with the integra was to get a type R transmission which came with an LSD and also changed the gearing ratios) if you throttle during a drift you’ll throw the car wide and always get a four wheel drift going (which seemed to work better with neutral steering instead of counter). You can’t keep the rear tires spinning with throttle. But, if the fronts are sliding also it’s easier to keep the rear loose for another moment or two. Definitely different from RWD, but, you can drift a FWD car. It’s a lot harder. So, there’s some satisfaction in getting it right. If I remember right from Tsuchiya’s Drift Bible from 20 years ago … those are all the major ways to initiate a drift. Everything works but power over, but the scale tends to be different.
I hate to be pedantic, but since you got the ball rolling: What you're describing is just the act of correcting oversteer, which is not the same thing as drifting.
@@terraf0rm The definition of drifting as defined by mirriam webster is basically the act of getting a car sideways. Which definition are you using (please site a source)? If I use a Scandinavian flick to start an inertial drift the drivetrain in my car just doesn't matter. The same drift happens. Rally racing has, very famously, been done with FWD cars for decades and decades. I challenge you to go watch FWD rally cars drift and then declare that it isn't a drift. It's obviously different from when rally racing used RWD cars, and it's obviously different from AWD rally drifting. But, FWD cars definitely do drift in rally racing. Asphalt or no. The tires that propel the car forward don't change physics, and you can get those FWD cars sideways.
Likewise, my first car i worked on fully, was a FC. No idea why i wanted to get into a widely considered unreliable chassis, but i only needed a tow truck once in my first months of owning it. Still my favorite motor and most reliable car to this day.
You know I wanted a Miada, but I got a honda CRZ instead. With its small compact front wheel drive design. I say it is just a worthy competitor to the Miata. Even if it wasn't in sales, I still wanna see those two verse.
lol @ saying about animating things inaccurately reminds me of actors or animators drawing people play instruments wrong, that’s always been a pet peeve for me.
Great video. Out of sheer curiosity why is there noise in the upper right corner of your footage @04:18 - @04:26? Also spotted some noise in other parts of the video but it not as apparent.
We need more realistic, achievable stories like this on the automotive corner of UA-cam. Cool guy and a cool car.
Lets be honest, this guy is exactly what many of us one day thought of becoming
The main character.
Totally.
I mean I have a miata so we're getting there 😂
Speak for yourself. I’m him but better
i wanted to comment this...
Need this man to make his own car animation series
I was thinking the same thing
Yeeeees this, hope he reads this
Yes!
We need a new car movie. And I would love this guy to be in charge.
He's not a writer though, that's why i don't think even he has much interest in doing that.
Funny thing is I used to make fun of Miata but then I moved to Atlanta and ended up buying a Miata and now I’m hooked. The Miata community out here is great.
It's a nice car. I always wanted one. Having just the two seats is great, but adulting needs space aside from the boot. It's a double-edged sword.
My first car was a '91 Miata 1.8L and it was an amazing car.
I have an nb but I'm gonna sell it. If I started again na all the way
i hate the miata clubs that go to tail of the dragon, THEY CAN NOT FUCKING DRIVE, iv almost been hit by them more then i have by bikes leaning over the double yellow.

@@0Heeroyuy01 this cannot be stated enough. I have scientific proof that two people who look alike, cannot operate things the same.
YOOOO! He is one of the guy who did the Initial D x GR86 promo that featured Drift King?! That ad was absolutel fukim FIRE!!!
yes he is!

Wisest comment I've seen in the internet in a while, thanks!
I really needed this thank you
He's living that life I once thought of but didn't commit. As I'm a natural with drawing however my path changed. At least I did get my Miata!!
I love the old Petrolicios vibes that these The Drive videos have. Keep them coming. 👏🏻

Super sick, he seems like a great dude! Spider-Verse were some of the best movies with easily my favorite animation, too. A true chad.
Homie's Subaru jacket is UNRIVALED. I need that shit.
HE STORY BOARDED THE 86 COMMERCIAL!! HE IS LIVING THE DREAM!!

As someone who is currently in school for animation and drives a brz, this is super inspirational!
That GR86 Commercial is one of the coolest pieces of media I have seen! Got me a red GR86. This guy is awesome!!!
I could listen to and watch him for hours! So cool, ok full disclosure, I own a Miata and took a similar path, I also remember the GR Initial D animation and thought it was incredible!
Car community needs more people like him. I bet he would do great in front/behind of a camera too.
I love Wynton's relaxed genuine demeanor. What a great lifestyle. I'm showing this to my son the minute he get's home from school!
1:54 He's a real one for having REDLINE front and center. Mad respect 😎👍

Fiat 500 Abarth for me. I encourage people to try the Fiat 500 Abarth. They are amazing cars to drive.

loved how the pop-up lights are build so it can go " ^u^ "
I will never understand why Mazda never offered a rotary in a miata. It's the perfect pocket for that rocket..

Rocking the Subaru jacket while driving a miata 😊
bro the most basic taste but its good simplistic taste

Great content! Genuine content.
Not super into Miatas but I’d rock this. Well done.

No way. I actually got my bRed GR86 because of that Initial D ad. Small World
what a cool dude

Love your MX5!
Also a High on Fire fan, bonus points.
