"Quite possibly the league's most overrated coach of all time"?...with an ego at every position on the team (including the depth chart) and the coaching staff as well, plus being forced to part with your all-pro talent via the McCaskey's...most teams would be hard pressed to even win back-to-back division titles. Ditka guided the Bears to 6 division titles, 3 NFC championship games and a Super Bowl. 7 post-season appearances over an 8 year span...hardly "overrated".
PRHILL9696...the McCaskey's constantly shot Ditka in the feet...what with all the all-pro talent he was forced to part with, its a miracle they went to the playoffs as many times as they did after the Super Bowl...that alone is testament as to how great of a coach Ditka was.
PRHILL9696...you're wrong...he lost Payton, Fencik, Hartenstine & Hampton to retirement, and Wilson, Marshall, Duerson, Gault, McMahon, etc etc etc...and Ryan wasn't that big of a loss considering they allowed fewer points in '86 than in '85.
PRHILL9696...I remember it well...as well,...they beat the Eagles (the Fog Bowl) in '88 and the Saints in '90...at Soldier Field. ...and as far as the history of coaches (in Chicago), no one, not even the "great" George Halas during the dynasty years of the '40's has ever guided the Bears to 7 post-season appearances over an 8 year span.
PRHILL9696...and I don't believe Bill Walsh would have won more Super Bowls in Chicago than Ditka either. ...maybe I went a little overboard by saying Ditka was a "great" coach...but he was certainly a good fit in Chicago during the '80's and early '90's. I'm not so sure Walsh could of handled coaching all those ego's on the Bears. As I recall, the 49ers were a very focused team and didn't have every position on the team plugging some product in an endless stream of television commercial revenue. ...lets face it, the Bears were star struck...every player on the team was selling cars, TV's, Coca-Cola, Big Macs with fries and a side of any product from Sears or JC Penny's. ...the only player I remember plugging products from the 49ers was Joe Montana drinking an occasional Pepsi...not very focused at all. ...maybe Ditka shares some of the blame, but I blame the McCaskey's more...and lets face it...the players have to want it as well.
PRHILL9696 ...well, you might be right as well...I agree, the Bears had a butt-load of talent. ...and I've always said that; "it didn't matter who was coaching the Bears in '85, they were going to win it anyways"....but here's an intriguing question that never gets asked; How many Super Bowls do you think Walsh would have won in Chicago with Tomczak, Flutie, Harbaugh, Fuller or a constantly injured McMahon?
You know how the tyrants want to prevent you from driving by using ‘kill switches” under the ruse of preventing DUI? Well, da Coach would have been a better coach if he had the reverse of a kill switch before they let him out of locker room. Da Coach is prevented from leaving the locker room to go to the sidlines until he has achieved the proper blood alcohol content.
@@musicman76enator I'm a Bear Fan forever. Browns are my AFC team too edrx000! Hey Matt, do the Browns still suck???? They were good in 2018 I know. Bears Browns SuperBowl coming this year.
Fans pay lots of money to sit in shitty seats in lousy weather to support a team but u expect them to be happy the team sucks...guess you were still hoping for the nostalgia crap....the 85 bears may live forever but bears fans im guessing were expecting a dynasty not a one and done
Charles Martin and Forrest Gregg ruined the dynasty with the cheap shot body slam in '86. McMahon was the key to the greatest team in NFL history. He was hurt a lot cause he played BALLS OUT every play.
Hot got a ring as a HC, as well as an assistant HC. What the hell is overrated about that? Plenty of overrated coaches who never got rings or had half the balls Ditka had.
I miss these types of coaches. Today, they’re too scared to offend or hurt someone’s precious little feelings.
He sure doesn't candy coat things, does he?
ditka has a lot of respect for the cleveland fans. i wish he would coach the browns
