beautiful job. Faces are hard especially strait on. I would have brought the mug higher so as to connect with her lips, like the photo shows. Love your style!
I love how you painted her. This is the style I strive for but it always ends up so tight. Charles Reid is one of my favorite artists too. His paintings are so intriguing. Thanks for another great demo!
Ohhh!! Thank you!! I've been struggling with a picture of my niece that I was trying to paint ... I could not for the life of me make it look any good... I gotta let go of the constrains of realism and neatness in the painting ... so hard to rewire your brain for watercolor values and whiteness coming through as light! An everyday process..
WOW! I am so impressed. Learning a lot from watching your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Love this! The painting is evokes so much more emotion than the photograph!
Very pretty Eric! I just can't make myself pain this loose and got traped in the details. I like how you are not stuck to exact values of reference photo it made the painting unique and just the inspiration not the copy. I am actually completely fine if my portraits doesn't look exactly like model, exception is famous people. I haven't receive any commissions yet. )))
i also would love to learn more about portrait watercolor painting.. though I'm more inclined to cartoony/anime subjects... I appreciate how you made use of values and colors to make this painting..
I love your work and style, but the one thing that was bothering me is her nose. Its too straight. When watching ,I thought you'd catch that . The left side should have more of a curve. My thinking is if you put a little more shadow at the inner part of her eye, and down the edge of her nose it would help. The reference photo actually shows the left side of her face is slightly darker than the nose. But , Who am I to criticize ? Everything else is perfect!
@@Cafewatercolor Terry , Eric did explain in the video that his aim is to capture the essence and not have a perfect reproduction. I think you will agree he succeeded
@@iangallager4091 For the most part, yes. But being as good as he is, I was hoping he seen that while he was painting, and would fix it in the process. And he does also say that you have to get the proportions correct before you start. Dont get me wrong, He is an excellent painter, and everything else looks spot on!
Beautiful - thank you!
love all your tutorials! Ive been drawing portraits for a couple of yrs, now starting to paint the portraits.

Yeah I realize that afterwards. But it’s done so I got to move on.. that’s the thing about watercolor 🙂
