ANNA'S VILLAIN SONG - For The First Time In Forever | ANIMATIC | Frozen cover by Lydia the Bard

- Hello! Welcome back to another Disney Princess turned villain in the series, this week we're villainizing Anna! Honestly, pretty easy one to turn into a Villain, she has every reason to be mad at her sister and want revenge and now she has ICE POWERS. Pretty dope. Thank you to Tony and MaepleTea for all your help on this! You're the best!
STORY
Anna has been mistreated for years, forced to spend most of her days alone with no friends or family to keep her company. She watches the time tick by and dreams of the day her family could heal and they could start again.
As we see in the film, Anna begins to hope again on coronation day, this is the opportunity she needs for her life to change! She meets Hans and is infatuated instantly, but Elsa loses control when Anna brings up the subject of marriage and we see their relationship break down as Elsa freezes Arendale.
Fast forward to the middle of the film, Anna confronts Elsa at her Ice palace, trying again to heal their relationship and convince Elsa that they can solve this together. In her turmoil Elsa accidentally shoots some of her ice magic straight into Anna’s heart.
This is where our story changes slightly - instead of slowly turning Anna to Ice the magic slowly turns her heart to Ice and corrupts her hopeful and kind spirit into something evil and cold. Slowly tendrils of ice reach their way into the very core of who Anna is, freezing and changing her very being. The process is gradual so Anna and Kristoff try to find a solution by visiting the trolls but have no luck, they assure her there is no cure to this kind of magic.
Anna’s spirit is further corrupted, becoming darker and darker by the day until the hope left in her is nothing but a weak memory. We now meet Anna just as Hans betrays her at the end of the film. It is at this moment that Anna’s heart has completely frozen over and a new, far more sinister Anna is awoken. Upon hearing about Hans' betrayal Anna isnt left in shock as she was in the film. Why would she be? She’s far less naive and her ice cold heart learnt not to trust people days ago, his plan was obvious. And so she reaches toward him with an chilling stare and turns him to ice. In our story not only has Anna become evil but her own ice powers have also been awoken.
Anna’s focus returns to her sister. Now her mind is clear of any love or hope she only has her darkest feelings to dwell on. Elsa left her to rot in that castle, never once checking on her or expressing any kind of love or affection. All Anna wanted, all she needed was someone to talk to, someone to share her burdens with. But that had never been Elsa. Anna had tried so hard to make a connection, but she was done trying. If they weren’t going to be sisters then they’ll be enemies.
And so Anna leaves her castle to find Elsa and end things between them for good.

Lydia the bard could you make a tinkerbell villain song using the song called the frigate that flies from the movie tinkerbell and the pirate fairy
Please do Cinderella
Belle from Beauty and the Beast would make for an interesting villain. Overprotective loyalty to her father plus lashing out at a restrictive community/literal imprisonment?
I know she already is a villain but she never did get a song so maybe Azlua. If not Azula then Cinderella :)
Merida!!!! Please do touch the sky that's my favourite song in the movie
Something that was interesting to me was that Elsa was either too scared or still loved Anna too much to harm her. But Anna was just pushed too far to see or care anymore. A true villian and definitely one of Lydia and the team's best works. Thanks so much!
Agreed. 👍
Funny how most great villains are pushed too hard to turn back. A true villain’s redemption is kinda rare (or that I’ve seen)🤣🤣 Lydia sure did a great job making it seem very plausible, and the chills were REAL
Like the MCU villains, all of them had ambition, but they all rejected and push to hit a low but then rise back up
Once upon a time is owned by Disney and they explored this and revealed Anna’s feelings.
I think it was mostly shock, and then love.
Hot take: Turning Anna into a villain is a lot easier than turning Elsa into a villain, all we need to do is to make her a bit jealous of Elsa's powers.
You got a point
that or just give her some self esteem. isn't that what these villain songs are? anna had no reason to try for elsa's love any longer, really. at no point in anna's memory had elsa ever shown love to her. i think we would all go a bit insane in these situations
More like cold take
@@jarielwilliams9856 you. i like you.
@@martyruth77 lmao thanks
A major detail I like is the contrast between Anna's ice powers and Elsa's. Elsa is all snow and crystalline ice, the beauty of winter. Meanwhile Anna is straight up frost and jagged, frigid ice. There's nothing nice about it, just the inexorable might of the primal cold which leeches the life and heat from all things.
AWESOME take on the details.
Elsa is the Snow Queen when Anna is the Ice Queen
I like how they went with dormant powers awaken by Elsa

I love the hint of light blue/white at the bottom of her eyes. It makes it look like she has tears she wants to shed but can’t because they’re frozen
Oh my goodness, that is great speculation!
I always thought they were a form of sleeping bags like she's tired of getting rejected by her sister but that's also good too 😂
I mean that's actually what happened. She tears up at 1:35 and from that point onwards they stay there as a consistent design element
@@RedShadowAMV No, they were there before then. You can first spot them at 0:15, when Anna’s grabbing Hans’ wrist.
Believe it or not, this is how the ’Frozen Heart’ spell effected the individual in the original Hans Christian Andersen story. Freezing the victims from the inside out starting with their emotions and inhibitions before ending with their bodies.
That's badass in a horrifying way. I was kinda disappointed to realise that Anna herself wouldn't freeze in this version. If I could alter it, I'd add a scene to the end where, after freezing all of Arendelle and getting revenge on Elsa, she returned to the castle, sat on the throne and let herself turn to ice. She fully knew her hours were numbered, and that there was a way to stop the curse, but thanks to her pent-up loneliness, she became so bitter that she would sacrifice her life for the power to seek her justice. Her choice to die on the throne is important because she knows that she won't get to truly live as the queen of a functioning monarchy, no matter what happens. But at least this way, she will be remembered as one by future historians.
@@roygbiv1122I think that a novel or potential sequel idea could be where Anna’s personality is inverted, like in the original fairy tale. I would enjoy that a lot, there is no one that Elsa cares about more than Anna, and honestly, I think it’s the same vice-versa(Anna’s first instinct is to help Elsa), so seeing Anna doing something or saying something cruel to Elsa would be sad, but I think it would be interesting. Anna would say a lot of the darkest things that she would never say to Elsa, and voice some buried thoughts, and Elsa and the rest would try to restore her to the Anna they know and love
Thank god someone else knows this!!!!! I’ve read the original story multiple times and loved it!!! I’ve also seen the play in the Danish royal theatre house and it’s one of my favorite stories!!!
I love the fact that instead of coming up with a completly new song for the villain princesses, you twist their original song into a villain one. It feels as if everything has come full circle and it's really cool
it's also just easier to change the lyrics of a song than to make a whole new one
I love that too! Like Lydia just twist a happy princess song into a villain one!
Ikr! It’s like twisting their theme to its darker mirror
And that makes the concept of villain princesses more thematically interesting...
Yassss
I love how Anna's ice is all spiked and sharp, while Elsa's is flowy and soft, contrasting the emotional state of each sister
I thought this was the route Disney WAS going to go when I saw Frozen. Anna said " I'm Fine!" when she was struck by Elsa's ice power and I thought it was her heart freezing and turning her into a villian. Thanks for singing the head canon.
That’d make sense, the ice sucked out the thoughts that told her Elsa (or anyone) was good and only left the thoughts of hatred and annoyance for being ignored.
Probably not. Elsa was going to become a villain but they decided to change that.
I like to think of this as less of Anna actually "changing" to be evil, but because her heart was frozen, it made her "cold-hearted"
That's what it is. Says in the description

The line “I just wanted a friend!” Is animated and sung so chillingly. I love it!!
i think the most chilling line in the song is "Do you want to build a snowman?"
just that gut punch to Elsa letting her know and reminding her of all the chances she had to be a sister.
@@ShackleYTtrue😢
I love how in this AU, Anna slowly becomes the Snow Queen we're familiar with from the original Hans Christian Anderson novel. I mean, Frozen is based off of the novel and Elsa is clearly mean to represent the villain from the original novel, but Elsa is faf more timid and shy compared to her. But here, Anna becomes much more similar to the Snow Queen than Elsa is.

Quite a powerful and tragic song of two sisters. The loss of their parents combined with the fear, paranoia, and loneliness set into them broke them further apart over time, unable to speak clearly with one another until it was too late. True love isn't going to be able to save Anna this time, as she's fully rejected it in favor of finally pushing herself first, while Elsa seems like she can't even bother trying to put up a fight, whether out of guilt or being unable to harm her sister purposely. And now they're both left frozen in different ways.
OOOH I LOVE THIS
I love this
Wait a minute if Anna and Elsa is separated and Elsa is frozen but it is said that after the ice has corrupted her heart and inside of her body now she is ice or frozen probably after the ice controlled her and it stopped Anna will feel guilty of what she did to her sister or will the ice will still control her no one knows but the developers of the villain Anna will know
Ok I had enough of typing
That’s so cool!
None of the insults and injuries were done voluntarily to either of them, but the fear of each only added new ones and made them worse. For me who loves this cartoon and who finds it deeper than what people want to recognize it, I find this outcome very sad and beautiful. In the end, I was afraid that one of the sisters would say for the last word "sorry" what would break my heart.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I love the changes of Anna’s colors over the course of the song. She starts out as a pale red, when her heart completely freezes over she becomes a pale purple (a mix of red and blue), and when her transformation is complete she becomes the same icy shade of blue that Elsa is colored in.
Actually, Anna's blue is a more blueish shade than Elsa's, which is a bit more green. Idk, am I the only one who can see that?
It’s a nice play on Colour
at the same time, Elsa was purple at first. I guess the colors mean emotions. red is something like happiness, purple is hopelessness, blue is alienation. Elsa turned blue after she ran away from the kingdom and embraced life as a loner. But Anna renounced her sister and destroyed her. It's sad to see that Elsa was probably purple after she almost killed Anna as a child.
And of course, the heir slowly draining of colour until she reaches her final pure white form.
Actually not course is curse
"I've run out of chances, and you've run out of time." Is such a hard line
I just found these and... I'm in complete awe. Makes you really realize how easy it would've been for the heros to turn villains if they gave into the neglect and pressure of their roles and just threw their moral compass to the wind
Same! My first one was fall Wendy bird fall and DAMN! All these motives are scarily possible and I love it!!!
One of the scariest things about the metaphysical ramifications of her not only frozen, but broken heart is that she can't die now. She's an immortal ice queen that can never die and as she grows to further understand her power, even things like removing limbs won't slow her down because she'll just break down and come back together in a snow flurry or ice storm vortex. She won't be limited by a human body, she'll be a living element of cold.
Even if she turned into a villain I don´t think she would last long on her own after ending Elsa. Her pain would overcome the anger and then consume her, so the only way for her to die now is if she, quite literally, melted. And so the water she turns into represents all the silent tears and repressed emotions carried within herself for years because she never knew why she was shut out. Anna thought time could "heal" her broken ice heart at first, but the pieces melted before she could do something about it. Leaving Elsa alone and frozen for eternity because now nothing and no one could unfreeze her.
yes just like the myth
@@shadowlord1418 What myth?
@@sirenamendes8604 of the celtic winter queen
Looking at you comment kinda made me think that this scenario of frozen could turn into a 2 sides to winter type situation. Where Elsa is the more calm side to winter where Anna becomes the more fatal side to it with blizzards and all that.
I LOVE the detail of Anna’s hair starting off with white streaks, which slowly become more prominent until it’s become as white as her frozen heart. Any traces of her usual warmth and joy are completely gone by the song’s end, completing her descent into villainy.
I think the song's end would have been cooler (No pun intended) if after Anna turned Elsa into a ice statue she covered her fist in ice and punched Elsa, shattering her into a million pieces.
That would guarantee that sister dearest wouldn't be coming back.
Great minds think alike!
But the funny thing is there is a small bit of that joy left, when she dances so joyfully before she confronts elsa, but it's a totally different type of joy. It's revelling in deciding to finally take control and take revenge on the one who hurt her.
I agree
I really love how you changed Anna’s colours to show how quick her heart freezes. At the start of the song she was an orange colour. And when she became evil she turned purple. And when heart froze over completely she turned an icy blue colour. I also love how her nails got sharper and sharper as she used her powers. Nails that are definitely fit for a villain.
I love this ending so much! The spell hitting Anna’s heart woke up her powers, froze her heart cold, and turned her into the Snow Queen of Hans Christian Andersen’s story
It didn't wake up powers, it gave her powers
I love the detail of Elsa's magic being smooth and refined while Anna's is sharp and jaged. It really shows their different mentalities!
Agree 🤍💙
Yeah though Anna is cold and ruthless. I’m not sure Olafs kindness will set her free. If Elsa gets set free ‘she will have no choice but to fight her sister’.
While else's magic is more crystalline and controlled freezing specific areas Anna's is more frostbite and creeping like being flash frozen or freeze dried
But why does Anna have ice magic too if only Elsa was born with it?
@@Emily_Bondevik_Official In The description. It's basically a 'what if' where instead of Elsa literally freezing her heart it slowly turned her cold and heartless.
I think I like villain Anna better. The song is catchy and shows just how much pain she's gone through. Also she looks absolutely gorgeous with her hair just flowing down when it's white.
It would just be a different movie
I dont think there was actually anyone stopping Anna from going out and making friends. She wasnt even tightly held up inside the walls and she was more insistent to keep calling for Elsa. Compared to Elsa whose been holding in her powers from showing up, hurting anyone and going completely uncontrollable, Elsa has more possibility to actually let it go in the wrong way. Plus her power was constantly growing so theres no telling what she can do other than changing the weather of her Queendom. Even her gloves were constantly upgraded

I love the idea of turning anna into the snow queen instead, and bringing a whole new meaning to the movies title by doing so.
I luv how Anna is a deeper shade of purple blue, like frigid ice. But Elsa's is more warmer like Winter. And these lyrics are really heartbreaken. And I don't even have to mention this art masterpiece, this is really something
Love the concept of Anna slowly turning into the Snow Queen Disney originally planned but scrapped because of Elsa's 'Let it Go' song. It's just so interesting to see the slow physical change throughout this song as Anna goes from the girl we know to a true ice queen with pale skin, long nails and snow white hair.
Also at 2:13 it shows broken glass like in the original fairytale (or in ouat)
I love how Anna's ice powers are sharp and pointed, like fragmented glass, whereas Elsa's ice is smooth and pure. It shows how they relate to their powers, while reflecting on their motivations.

This is the big turn that Frozen needs.
Love this song. The scary part is that i actually can see this happen in an alternate universe. I mean Anna tried so much to get her beloved sister back and every time she got the door shot in her face without explanation. Eventually someone would just crack. In Anna's mind, nothing did happen. She didn;t get hurt by Elsa. So her sister just shot her out without a reason. Hated her without a reason. Even when there parents died, the moment they needed each other the most, she was still shot out without a reason. Anna tried to be there for Elsa, but on one was there for Anna. Anna is one of the sweetest princesses of the Disney universe, but that makes her the most scary at the same time. If she sould crack, what would happen?

I love how natural these villian twists are. Because from Anna’s perspective she didn’t really think Elsa loved her. She had to reason to. So it makes sense she could choose this route. Edit: thanks for the likes!

Idk, she found out earlier in the story that Elsa was staying away to protect her. And if she didn't care for Elsa's approval anymore, why wouldn't she have let her go, and killing everyone immediately seems like a LARGE change compared to how she acted throughout the whole movie. I’m not saying it would be good if the original film had done that, but if Hans had shown his villainy openly to the audience but not Anna and then this was the twist at the end? That would’ve been so shocking. And Anna really feels like a more direct adaptation of The Snow Queen here than Elsa ever did.
And it would make perfect sense, but i have a feeling it would be really dark similar shown here
FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE SEES THE PARALEL!!!
I have a coloring book, I got it as a child and it tells the story of The Snow Queen and I quickly realized that it was like Frozen... or rather that Frozen was like it!
Not only that, but it punctuates Anna’s parallel to Kai more as her heart is frozen over in personality, rather than literally. (Or maybe a bit of both)
@@brecheese6532 That would be bc it’s what the movie is based off of….at least i think it is.
@@ericanight8359 it is. or rather, it WAS, until Let it Go was written. once that song was written, those in charge were faced with a choice. ditch a song destined to become an ultra mega hit, or rewrite your villian to become a hero. because Elsa's counterpart in the fable IS the bad guy, full stop. they chose the latter route, this is a return to the story's roots.
I like this form of the story! It makes a lot of sense to me and I also like that around 1:10, Anna uses her new powers outside but imitates some of Elsa’s poses. It’s like they reacted to the freedom and welcoming of ice in the same way! In the end, they were always sisters. ❤
The Watcher: In their original story, despite all Elsa had done, Anna never gave up on her sister and fought with all she had to save her and mend their family. But in another universe, Anna harbored far more resentment towards Elsa, resulting in the eventual manifestation of her own dormant abilities, leading to a much less happy ending than the one you know.
I love the touch that while Elsa _could_ have tried to stop the new villainous Anna, she was either too scared of what Anna became or still cared to where she couldn't bring herself to harm her sister, not after what happened last time. It shows that she still cares. Anna just no longer cares about Elsa herself.

The cool thing is that this is actually how a frozen heart worked in the original snow queen. Lydia took Frozen back to its roots with this one.
yes but Anna didn't know what had happened when they were kids.
I love how ontop of her looking like a literal MONSTER at the end, her magic and her sister's magic are a bit different, let me explain. Her magic is spikey, more dangerous, while Elsa's magic is smooth, more like fresh snow on a winter day than a literal ice spear
Is it bad that I prefer this than what we got? Because this song is beautiful and would have loved to see Anna as the villain. This would have me in tears if this was canon. Heck it made me feel emotional watching this 😭😭

"Both sisters stared Each other, one of them no longer feeling anything in her soul, and the other feeling nothing but sorry for the drama she caused, sorry for the misery she accidentally inflicted upon both, and when the cursed sister was about to finish off her older sister....something happened, a birght and gorgeous rainbow steram blocked the attack of both sisters that were about to clash, both sisters were confused by what was that...and between them flew a little fairy, dressed in purlpe and pink, being she whom summoned such rainbow, Anna, annoyed by this intromission, only aimed to the fairy, but this one answered with another lightningbolt of rainbow, which not only repelled the beam of ice, but transmutated into a chain that held captive the cursed sister.
The fairy asked to the queen, asking for her hand to help the cursed sister, both the fairy and que queen touched their hands, and the chain of rainbow, caused an unexpected effect: both the fairy and the queen where in the mindscape of the cursed sister, whe they saw what looked like a painting where two happy girls where playing, which was totally covered in ice, and seemingly broken, but the fairy guided the queen to touch the ice, and the fairy used another spell, this one creating a powerful bodn that made both the minds of the cursed sister and the queen to connect, in that moment, and with the help of the fairy, and regardless of how much the ice was fighting to repel both, all the feelings of loneliness, and longing for love of the queen reached the broken picture, and with the magic of the fairy, this one began to get rid of all the damage it had suffered, because the love of the queen for her sister was finally thawing the ice in her mind, and no matter how much the cursed sister fought against it, the feeling and longing for love that she though broken, was returning, until the picture saw itslef freen in a explosion of ice, with both the queen and the cursed sister fainting....
whne both sisters woke up, they saw the ice in the kinddom gone, and the queen saw all the changes her sister had suffered gone, her hair and her heart where back to normal. the fairy entered the tent where she congratulated both sisters by being able of mend the sisters heart. the queen look at her sister with nothing but pure repentance, since all her mistakeswhere what drove her sister into siuch dangerous path, both sisters where in a silence until the queen tried to speak, but the sisters only answered with a hug for her sister, thanking her for the only thing she wanted really: tenderness from her part...and then she hugged the little fairy for help into release her from the icein his soul...
at the doors of the palace, the little fairy was ready to say goodbye to both sisters, and in that moment, a portal of light materialized while both sisters say good bye, the sister asked to the fairy what was her named:
My name is princess Sofia balthazar from Enchancia"
if you wonder why i did this, is simple: i simply can't stand the evil getting their way....
Now I _really_ wish we got a Frozen where one of the sisters was actually allowed to be a villain. This is such a cool concept.
It would have made the journey, the love story, and Anna and Elsa making up so much more impactful, especially allowing Elsa to see how what she had done effected Anna when she was too blind to see it.

If Frozen had been a larger universe (a book series maybe?), there are so many reasons this would have been perfect. It would have added an entirely different meaning to "Frozen Heart," and could have been made to be synonymous with "Heartless." This would also add SO much depth to Elsa, who would likely start out being framed as a misunderstood antagonist (similar to the beginning of the movie) but then ultimately transforming into a determined antihero out of guilt from creating in Anna the villain that Elsa would have always believed herself to be. @@Evanedits191 well the original fairy tale Anna goes a journey meeting the queen of spring and queen of snow after her lover Hans gets an ice splinter in his heart to thaw his heart since afterwards Hans rejected emotions and was pure logic only
Yeah I never quite bought the story that when they wrote "Let it Go" they decided Elsa didn't work as a villain. I feel like the song could still be a villain song from a certain angle. The final version frames it as Elsa finally feeling free to embrace her powers and not have to live up to others' expectations, and being happy about that. But I feel like it could be interpreted as a villain song featuring Elsa's turn to evil, a sort of "then let me be evil" kind of song. Sort of like "Defying Gravity." But maybe that's just me.
I think Anna works better as the villain than Elsa.
This is a really great song. What i found really interesting is that as the song progresses, you can see the change in color of Anna going from warm red , then light lavender, lastly to icy blue, showing the humanity leaving her as she becomes cold and ruthless, great touch.
As we saw in Frozen 2, once Elsa’s dies, anything that was created by her powers dies with her🤔 So would that have reversed Anna’s frozen heart? Would Anna then be back to normal and have the sudden realization of what she’d done?🤔
I don't think she's dead here. My take would be that she's trapped. Her body is an ice statue, but she's still in there. Even more a horrific, yet almost fitting punishment.

It would be great to have a villain song for Anna from the sequel around The Next Right Thing. Where this time Anna truly has lost absolutely everyone she loved, found out the truth about her parents, and is now completely alone with the only thing left is to return home and accept her new role as queen. Basically her traumatic, miserable life finally breaking her into becoming an evil queen. Anna’s whole story has such great villain potential.

I did not expect "Do You Wanna Build A Snowman" to suddenly kick in. I had goosebumps from start to finish. As someone who really thought Anna was gonna turn out to have ice powers just like Elsa, this is absolutely amazing. The small bits of animation are just so perfect. Absolutely incredible.
One detail I love is how Elsa stood up at 3:40 showing that she could break out of Anna’s ice handcuffs but just didn’t try to resist her which proves that even though Anna is too far gone she still loves her sister.
What I rlly loved was that when ever Anna walked the floor turns to ice and that was js such a cool affect!
Not only an incredible voice, great music and animation, and a really good reinvention of the original song from the film, but also a completely coherent dialogue and scenario in this alternative version of the story. The idea that Anna's frozen heart makes her heartless, broken and ambitious, and turns against Elsa for what she did to her is so good that it could perfectly fit in a darker version of the movie. Great job!
I love how the Elsa villain song is how she loved her sister so much she captured her in ice, but Anna's is how she holds a grudge against her sister all these years. All villain songs are amazing and this is one of my personal favorites!
Anna so deserves something like this!
In the original movie, Anna is all forgotten and never gets her say. I really dislike the Frozen movies.
Anna fixes everything, yet she is thrown aside. While Elsa just whines and sobs the whole movie.
But this was so epic. Just remove the ice from Anna and it was as the real Frozen probably would have gone before they changed it last minute.
I wish Anna had gotten more.
Thankfully, Anna's not that heartless. Even if she was literally freezing to death.
I love that their powers are two different veiws on winter.
Elsa is the soft snow fall, the cozy, calm feeling of winter. anna is the opposite, shes the dangerous side, the icicles, the blistering cold, everything bad and scary
"There's 1 thing that always held me back, and that one thing was YOU" ABSOLUTELY 👏SPINE CHILLING!! honestly all of it is flawless
A bit of fitting irony that at the end Elsa is frozen in the exact same position Anna was in the original film, but this time in completely different situation. I love your disney princess becoming a villain songs and they actually seem very believable if some crucial events changed. What would be an awesome story to try is if in these villain stories the turn to evil is kind of a prologue and a main character learns through the story of these villains and it changes their perception of who the villain is. Like if in this story, 10 years pass and a main character goes on a journey to stop Anna who has become the Snow Queen, having heard one-sided stories of the evil villainess since they were young. But in the journey to stop the Snow Queen, they learn of the true story, of how Anna becomes the Snow Queen. It might be an interesting concept to explore in a story like this, or any of the villainess songs you have put out so far. I imagine Mirabel from Encanto could be another character this concept could apply to. But that is just my musings on an idea.
Can we talk about how pretty Anna is? Even if she is now a villain, she is so pretty with her hair down. The vocals and pitch were very good too! I loved how the song went.
Essentially how people fawn over hot villains...
2:54 'Do you wanna build a snowman?' that gave me chills, you can really feel all things Ana has been represing, the pain, the sadness, the anger... This is actually a pretty cool nod to the original snow Queen story. The ice shards turned people heartless and cold instead of killing them
0:33 "Finally IM nocking down the gates" Really shows she doesn't care for anyone but herself and the whole village.
The scene at 2:39 really gave me goosebumps cause it shows how much Elsa was afraid of Anna in that moment. Props to the animators for making it so smooth and the vocals were amazing.

@@hemoliadon5319How do you effectively study antagonists? And what makes this rendition of Anna so special?
@@Artist-128 I mean it's a combination of what's effective, what's innovative and what fits your audience. For example, while characters like Darth Vader, Joker and Hannibal are usually considered to be some of the, if the, most highly memorable and interesting villains to hit the big screen, they don't fit with our current entertainment taste buds as well as they did in decades past. Such as a character like Homelander from the boys or, in the simplest form modern day, whatever we can connect with in a deep and memetic manner in as large of an audience as possible. This song meant a lot to me because of real world issues with my biological sister. The quality of which, combined with the emotional beats and tonal emphasis on certain words worked with me better then my normally analytical mind could ignore.
Anyways, I wish I could give you a more concrete answer beyond a few tips but the end result is, the reason why Hollywood can't succeed most of the times on their villains is because of both budget and the field being dynamic as dynamic can be. This means that most of what you need to do is just keep up with trends of your particular niche so you can make a "President Cezanne" or an "Aylith, the Dark Matron" when requested. That's usually done through genuinely staying passionate on said niche or inventing a new niche through the stitching and rebranding of a dozen different things that will make your own heart tingle.

I wish Anna had gotten more
@@BioLivbanonYou know what, agreed, I woulda liked Frozen way more if Anna became the twist villian instead of Hans.
@@soulight6091 Or no twist villian at all. Disney is terrible at making a twist villian. The one that worked was King Candy from Wreck it Ralf.
But, yes just something that was better than what they did.
The original thought was for Anna to save the kingdom from Elsa with a frozen heart, as you can see in the song Life's too short. I love that song, it shows a so much better dynamic then the movie we got!
I see this as a perfect lead up to Elsa's own villain song.
Heartbroken at seeing her sister's suffering and the corruption she's gone through but knowing she has to stop her from hurting anyone else and to try and reverse the damage done, Elsa confronts Anna. She hopes she can try and make her see some sense...bring back that sweet, innocent sister she loved.
But Anna is too far gone. Elsa is forced to fight her sister. Though Anna's rage makes her stronger and despite Elsa's own inability to control her power, Elsa still has more experience using their shared ice power.
Unfortunately it's because of her lack of control that Elsa ends up accidentally killing Anna.
As a result Elsa is overwhelmed with despair...she's killed her only remaining family...she couldnt save her sister.
To make matters worse...despite Anna's death, her power isnt reversed. Everyone remains frozen.
So Elsa remains in Arendelle, her grief turning to madness
A queen of ice in her frozen kingdom...watching over her frozen subjects...haunted by the calls of the doomed princess
Woah. My mind is blown
Holy- YES! That's a great idea!

aw man that would have been such an insane plot twist if it turned out the snow queen was actually anna the whole time. the hyped up the whole frozen heart thing and i thought on first watch she was going to become more and more cold and callased. damn imagine ana just turned evil.
This song hit me personally SO hard. I really feel Anna's emotions and reactions so intensely here from my own poor experience with my older sister. Things have gotten slightly better between us but I still don't feel ready to accept her 'being ready to be a sister' to me after so many years of being outright ignored. I understand that my sister was wrapped up in her own world and issues - a lot of which she took out on me in a time of my life when I didn't understand what I may have done to upset her. The part at 1:35 hit me like a damn freight train realizing I'm still not ready to have any kind of relationship with her and I have no idea when I will be ready or how I will know when I'll be ready. Oftentimes I think I'm fine and then I'll hear lines like this which tear open old wounds with memories I can't even remember but the emotions are still so raw that it completely rips away the facade I spend months if not years convincing myself with that I'm fine and no longer hurting.
I have no idea what eventually triggered my sister to come to me and say she wanted to have a sister relationship. The indescribable indignation, the burning resentment, and the outright rage I felt when hearing that killed me because I knew I was not ready to do anything close to forgive her for so many years of being trapped in the same house as her growing up, feeling that oppressive presence living in the room next to me, having no idea what I had done to have deserved that kind of treatment.
It's been almost 10 years now since she's admitted that she wants a better sister relationship. How can I give her something that I have never felt in my life towards her? If I don't feel better by now, 10 years later after she left the house, when in the world is this feeling ever going to die down enough for me to get over it?
I feel so silly writing this all here but I'm glad there's at least some space where I'm able to vent. I also do realize at these moments that I do need therapy. Damn lol XD
Very good song, 10/10 love it
you don't have to forgive her or forget what happened. you're allowed to not have a relationship w her.
My situation might be nowhere near as bad as yours but I feel the same about the song
10 out of 10, disney could have learned
The villain pacing around the hero, taunting them while they're incapacitated is such a fantastic trope. Its peak arrogance and I love it!
"Get down and bow, its Coronation Day!" Is also a fire line.
my fav line is the callback to do you want to build a snowman.
I love the shot at 3:45 - it really gives off the impression of Elsa seeing just how far Ana has fallen, just how much she is broken and is no longer the person she was, and that there is nothing that can be done to fix it.
Amazing song and video!
I'm also pretty sure from that hit, since it hit Elsa at her head it pretty much kills her because she's completely white and not covered in icy blue ice. ❄
I think Lydia needs to join the Disney staff. She could write a far better, compelling villain story than the current garbage Disney is producing.
Nah they'd squander her potential.
@@concept5631yeah, they would.
All because they're a bunch of saps who can't accept that oftentimes, the villains have a good point.
Okay but this villain song also would be SO incredible in the prophecy storyline that was originally part of Frozen. Everyone thought the prophecy was about Elsa, but it turns out to be Anna.
I love the way Anna's voice has a sort of "Colder pitch" If you get what I mean. Whenever she sings the line, "For the first time in forever" I get goosebumps with the way she twists the sound.
Something I find interesting about this, is the obvious references to the Snow Queen fairytale. Especially when Anna sings 'I'm not looking for your love', and the metaphorical heart in her hands shatters like mirror glass.
Keyword being 'mirror', like the mirror in the Snow Queen.
And the shards reflecting in Elsa's eyes is an obvious reference too. Like when Kai got a mirror shard in his eye, and it altered his perception of the world around him.
I think this applies to both sisters though, not just Elsa. Elsa's fear of her powers and losing control of them altered her perception of her reality, but in this video Anna is going through the same thing.
Like the scene with the ice wall, where Anna sings 'The Anna you knew is dead and gone.' The reflections in the wall indicate that Elsa is angry at Anna, but Anna is remembering that out of context. The same with the portraits in the ballroom, all of them are from Anna's perspective, not Elsa's. And we all know perspective can be a tricky thing.
And now that Anna's heart has been frozen, and her personality changed, her perception of the present moment and of past moments have been altered as well. Yes, Elsa shut Anna out for years, but as explained at the ice palace, she was trying to protect Anna, not hurt her.
This Anna is completely neglecting that fact, and is only seeing what she wants to see if only to justify her feelings of pain.
Whoever reads this, I hope you have a great day! 😊
thank you for that analysis! very well thought out! and thank you, i hope you also have a very nice day!
@@JhadeSagrav Thanks! ☺️
Goddamn I never thought of that
Honestly this concept would have made one hell of a movie
The "beware the frozen heart" takes a new meaning.
I love the idea of a twist where the whole movie you know that Elsa is the "Snow Queen," but in the end, Anna is the one who actually becomes the evil Snow Queen.
I loved how at 2:16 after Elsa kneeled to her Anna walked around her in that position! Really made her more evil and showed how much she was tired of having to bow down to Elsa! Truly amazing voice too! ❤
So cool right???
It really is my favorite part of the animation
3:45 this is also a villian pose!
@@d0rk906and my fav too
I like that instead of freezing, she's literally cold-hearted. A really interesting take on the concept
While I discovered this reinterpretation of "For The First Time In Forever" very recently, I "fell in love" with it. 😊😍
I love the two Frozen movies because of the characters and of their journeys in both movies, notably with the emotional dimension tied to the two main characters (in both of whom I identify myself).
I have watched almost all your Villain princesses covers and this one is my most favourite one. Not only because of the fact it is tied to one of my favourite Disney movies and characters, but also because of the setting, the music and the emotion within. What I particularly love in this reinterpretation like in the Merida's villain song is the tragic undertone of the song with how Anna is broken, shattered within (symbolized by this beautiful picture of her heart shattered in thousands of pieces).
I agree with many comments on the references and the animation and tone of the song. My most favorite part is when Anna seems to calm down a bit to express the fact that the bridge has burnt between Elsa and Anna because Elsa didn't listen to Anna's calls in the past or her pleas. It highlights the strength of the AU set for this song and tied to the themes within the original movie : Anna suffers as much of isolation as Elsa and the only person she would turn to was unavalaible and "cold". This song not only shows the potential behind those narrative elements of "Frozen", but also the fact that it is something deeply human in spite of the magical dimension.
Another thing I love was the eye color of Anna as it reminds me (another fandom) of the White Walkers. It was as if Anna was a Night Queen full of hatred and destruction. And it is a beautiful and strong way to show the difference between Elsa and Anna in this song in regards of their magical powers with the other details (the ice claws of Anna, the way their ice blast work...).
I love how the emotions of both Elsa and Anna are depicted : Elsa is shocked and considering the context, even more guilty than ever of what she has done.
By dint of watching and hearing this video (but also reaction videos on it), it came to my mind the frame of what could be a one-shot fanfic depicting the setting of the song from Elsa's perspective (and here a potential "synopsis") :
Elsa is fleeing from the dungeons of her castle, trying to be as far away from her kingdom to prevent even more damage. But as she was moving across the frozen fjord, the storm around seemingly stops. Puzzled, the queen wondered how it was possible and yet she felt colder than ever. Suddenly, she hears someone approaching. Turning around, she is stunned by the sight of Anna that was turning cold, her eyes displaying a bright icy blue. This view reminded Elsa the hurt she had inflicted on her sister.
But what shocked her even more was the cold and angered glance her sister was now sending her. Anna calls her out, accusing her of wanting to destroy her bit by bit before claiming that the Anna she knew was dead and gone and that all remains was should Elsa be left alive. Elsa looks horrified and surprised, unable to recognize in this cold creature the lively sister, but also by the fact that now she has ice powers as her. A blast sent Elsa on her knees. Mesmerized and appalled, unable to react on the moment, she saw "Anna" creating a heart that suddenly shattered into pieces as her sister told her that she won't need her love anymore. This phrase hurt Elsa as she knew how much Anna's love for her was strong. "Anna" suddenly rose on a icy top before trapping Elsa's arms in ice. Powerless, Elsa looked afraid in Anna's hateful eyes.
And suddenly, her sister told her in a calmer voice that they could have been sister, but that was now too late for both of them. Hearing it and then Anna saying in a low and cold tone the question that used to be their motto for children games and then her sister's call to bring her to open herself made shiver Elsa as it underlined how much her sister was broken and shattered. The failed queen heard the young woman before her expressing how much all she wanted was to be by her side, to help her but only knew rejection. As she was talking, Anna was totally turning icy and scarier while she was expressing her pain and anger in a stronger way. Sensing it was not her sister anymore, Elsa freed herself and faced the figure that replaced Anna, full of hate and pain. If she wants to save herself and to save Arendelle, she has to defeat the being before her. Elsa sends a blast, but in her heart, she couldn't allow herself to hurt her opponent. Her heart was full of guilt and remorse, acknowledging all the accusations her "sister" told her about the abandonment she had inflicted her. How did they come to that ? All she wanted was to protect Anna and to control her powers and should it fail, leaving everyone to protect them and protect herself from their fear. And yet, all her endeavors failed: not only she was unable to control her magic, but she has frozen her kingdom and managed to turn her dear sister in a monster so unrecognizable.
Her lack of determination made her fail in her blast, allowing "Anna" to send a violent blast in return. Scared, Elsa tried to shield herself, but it was too late. Ice enter her heart like a canonball and the queen of Arendelle was no more, only a ice statue trapped for eternity in a frozen land and punished for her failures...
Lyrics
Won't live in your Shadow any more
Forever shot behind these doors
Imprisoned as you rule and you dictate
Pandering to you every call
Pointlessly talking to the walls
Finally in knowking down the gates
The story gonna change and go my way
For the first time in forever
I'm getting what I really want
For the first time in forever
I'll have my say and you can watch
I'm stronger now than ever
And it's time I take my place
For the first time in forever
Nothing's in my way
Oh nothing's in my way
Did you think I'd just keep taking it?
Letting you my crush my self worth bit by bit
Well now you'll learn just who you're messing with
The anna you knew is dead and gone
Finally done being your pawn
Which begs the question, do I let you live
Get down and bow it's coronation day
For the first time in forever
I'm not looking for your love
For the first time in forever
I'm I free to rise above
I don't care for you approval
We have nothing more to say
For the first time in forever
Nothing's in my...
Do you wanna build a snowman
I've lost count of all the times
I tried getting you to talk to me
The oppen up and see I was your and you where mine
I reached out when you were hurting
United to the end
You froze me out completely
I just wanted a friend
For the first time in forever
I can see clearly what to do
There's one thing that always held me back
And that one thing was you
Now you've had your last tomorrow
Cos your time is up today
For the first time in forever
Nothing's in my way
Nothing's in my way
1:59 Elsa’s face after Anna asks more herself than Elsa if she should let Elsa live. The fear and heartbreak as she realizes that it wasn’t her ice that froze Anna’s heart. That she killed her sister in a way more metaphorical than physical.
2:39 I think this is moment Elsa truly realized that Anna, as she’d known her, couldn’t be saved. That her sister was gone for good, replaced by a manifestation of the hurt she’d suffered.
3:21 this is when I realized the alterations to Ann’s design weren’t just stylistic, but that she was actually transforming into a creature of ice and wind.
3:52 I’m pretty sure that this is when the final realization that Anna is stronger, and that she can’t win hits Elsa. This is the moment that she knows how this fight is going to end but has to at least try, for the sake of her subjects.
At the end, Anna won because she had nothing to loose. Elsa, who still loves her sister might have held back a little.
This would've been an amazing twist in the film, rather than Hans being the twist villain, the twist is we've been following and rooting for the villain the whole time, which is much more interesting
