I heard Richard left because he wanted to leave the series on a high note. I do feel a bit sorry for Ed though, because he had massive shoes to fill. Richard was simply an integral part of the show - it wasn't the same without him, his harmonica and his hilarious jokes. And let's not forget Mumsy, of course!
Yeah, it was a combo of wanting to go out on a high and it being exhausting for him, it was 16 hour days making 20 episodes a year at its peak, and he was in basically every shot running around.
And Riff Raff went back to Transsexual, to dance the Time Warp forevermore with his one true love, free from the machinations of a wicked transvestite scientist and the Maze which incarcerated him... Eddie Tudor Pole was pretty good too :)
A very sad scene.....but it paved the way for MY favourite presenter - Ed Tudorpole. I worked on series 6 as a games designer so that was another reason I loved the later series’. 💎💎💎💎
What they could had done. At the beginning we see Ed arrive at The Crystal Maze and before Richard and Mumsy get on the motorcycle and ride out of The Crystal Maze for good. Richard shakes Ed's hand and gives him some advice and tells him to take good care of The Crystal Maze and wishes him luck.
Very sad moment. I actually think the maze and games were at its best in series 5 & 6 but although Tudor Pole was ok, he was no Reckless Rick. More videos to come soon so keep tuned!
Daniel Williamson - He admitted that he hadn't intended to host the show for more than one series, but they offered him money he couldn't refuse. But by the fourth series his heart wasn't in it. He left because he felt it had peaked and didn't want to go on presenting if it were about to decline, as it would damage his reputation.
97channel that makes sense. At least he knew when to call it a day, unlike a a lot of so called celebs these days who milk things for as long as possible.
i cried a lot when this was aired.. well, i was 6 then. but this goodbye is still sad. :( ed's episodes were never aired in our country, so i thought that crystal maze ended when richard left. then i said to myself, "when i grow up, i'm gonna find a copy of this great show." and yes kids, richard o' brien is THE MAN. he took a part of TCM with him when he left.
Richard swivel hips O’Brien, Reckless Rick was my reason for watching TCM with Mumsey, auntie Sabrina and the stories about Ralph and Dwayne. The others were/are just presenters trying to copy his style. You could actually believe Rambunctious Rick lived in Medieval, went to Aztec for his hols, found the SS Atlantis blocking the drains in Industrial, where he built the games and argued with the computer in Future.
I loved the world building of the Crystal Maze where it never acknowledged that it was a game show, more that these recruitment consultants from Slough had arrived for whatever reason and Richard had to guide them around the maze to try to escape. It was a fun setup.
After Richard's last ever episode of the Crystal Maze, He writes a Latter to Edward Tudor Pole before leaving the Medieval Zone. I love it how he snatched the Letter and prepares to lead his first team.
Really? What model is it? Why couldn't he hold it up? Bikes don't weigh anything when upright and he seemed to have pretty good balance. I smell bullshit
Three things that lead to an instant unfriending. 1) Pineapple on Pizza 2) Saying Die Hard isn't a Christmas Movie 3) Saying Ed Tudor Pole was better than Richard O'Brien
Be kind to Edward Tudor-Pole. He received such flack from fans saying that he wasn't as good as Richard O'Brian that afterwards he basically disowned the show and would act like it was nothing to do with him. He's still the second-best presenter that the show has ever had.
@cdbils001 i did, but hay he lives in a quasai dimensional time warp with a handful of people counting the comeptitors who pass through, i figured hed got a lil crazy.
So were they going to Cairo, or the west coast of America?! Haha, It's so funny how he doesn't bother thinking about what he's going to say until he says it.
@Footbalcrazychocomad I like most of those shows and i like the crystal maze. It's just annoying hearing you talk about Richard like that because he's kinda my hero.
If I were to bring the show to America, I'd add two additional zones and name them after the one from the original 'Sonic the Hedgehog' video game, starting with Green Hill and ending with Scrap Brain while using the Final Zone music for the Crystal Dome. I'd also add a celebrity episode where six celebs would play for up to $18,000 (depending on how many Time Crystals they got) for charity, up to an extra $1,800 for each gold token they got in the Crystal Dome, and up to an additional $180 for each silver token; I'd also give each celeb a Crystal for them to take home. I'd also add a Halloween special, a Thanksgiving special, a Christmas special, a New Year's special, a Valentine's Day special, a St. Patrick's Day special, a Memorial Day special (featuring soldiers from the military), a 4th of July special (in which the team is made up of people from Philadelphia), a childrens' special (in which the team is made up of kids), and a Super Bowl special (featuring six players from the team that won the Super Bowl).
@Footbalcrazychocomad Richard O'Brien is the most wonderful man ever!!!!! If you actually knew anything about him outside of Crystal Maze then you would think so to. He's the nicest person ever in interviews, and he wrote 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' which is the best musical ever!!! Get your facts right before you talk about Ricky like that.
Ed tudor pole isn't as annoying as I remember him... but why does he open his legs so wide when he arrives in a zone o.O is it so someone can arrive in his zone? And the whip on the boots.. its just creepy.
I hate Ed!Richard was so much better.he always makes me happy.Ed just makes me irritated.he is a turd.... Richard is a GOD! well...its good that I can Re:watch the first 4 season :) I wish he had never left :'( Richard for ever
The show was never the same for me. Richard was the crystal maze for me.
Richard was brilliant. He had such charisma and he was brilliant. I liked his humor and his interaction and improvisations.
Richard was to Crystal Maze what Freddie was to Queen. Both soulless without them.
I disagree. Rick was an absolute legend, but I simply cannot be the only person in the world who prefers Ed Tudor-Pole.
this made me cry when richard o brien left 😭😭😭😭😭
@@jackcarter5101 I absolutely adore Ed ♥️
Wow what a flashback. I remember this!!! I was so upset. He was irreplaceable
If you pay close enough attention, you can just about hear the agony of my childhood being brutally ripped from me.
Loved this guy to bits. A very caring thoughtful man.
He also created The Rocky Horror Show so yeah he's amazing
He was a nice guy and he's still alive he's 81 I've just looked him up
Happy 80th birthday 🎂🎉🥳🍾🎊 Richard O’ Brien
I only watched this show for Richard. Every kid in school knew he was the GOAT in hosting anything

Jack Carter hehehe. Oh there are a few Ed TP fans out there. 👍🏼💎💎💎
@@philnewton-england7795 Not that Rick wasn't a legend too, of course
Jack Oh absolutely. Ricky was the original excellent mazemaster, but Ed was just that more Manic for me !!!
@@philnewton-england7795 Plus, he didn't try to copy Rick, he had the style and the personality to do it his own way.
Would had been good if we saw Richard and Ed together.

It fell apart when he left.

totally agree on your comment robyn
as soon as richard left, the entire show died

The day The Crystal Maze died for me. Sad day when Rick and Mumsey left.

Richard O' Brien: "Screw this I'm a go make a movie with Jack Bauer." *Leaves the Crystal Maze forever*
:(
First time watching this clip. It would have hit alot harder in my younger years!
I loved the world building of the Crystal Maze where it never acknowledged that it was a game show, more that these recruitment consultants from Slough had arrived for whatever reason and Richard had to guide them around the maze to try to escape. It was a fun setup.
Love Richard
What an awesome exit!
This actually made me ball my eyes out when I was a kid.
You can hear the sadness in his voice.
That bastard never did pay me.... The Milkman.
I loved the crystal maze :( why did it end,why did It break my heart...
After Richard's last ever episode of the Crystal Maze, He writes a Latter to Edward Tudor Pole before leaving the Medieval Zone. I love it how he snatched the Letter and prepares to lead his first team.
And as they drive off,
Bom bom bom bom
What ever happened to Saturday night,
If my bad memory serves they were broadcast on channel 4 on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening around 7ish.
Crystal maze = Richard O’Brien. Full Stop
I cant remember this at all. Good old Challenge!! back on freeview too!
Awesome entertainer 👌
And the angels wept in heaven ..........!
lets do the timewarp!
Wow 36,000+ views? More than the average Saturday night reality show gets thesedays. Long live the Crystal Maze!
Because the Crystal Maze was more believable.
And here I am, fighting against the tears because of an event which happened six years before I was born.
This is the clip that they play just before you go into The Crystal Maze Live Experience in London and Manchester.
Fun fact: Mumsey is 7 years older than Richard
Looks like Richard O'Brien modelled himself on Rob Halford here!
All this time i never knew Riff Raff hosted crystal maze :o
this is my harley and i rode it off as richard couldnt hold it up
Really?
What model is it?
Why couldn't he hold it up? Bikes don't weigh anything when upright and he seemed to have pretty good balance.

I love that jacket. I want it.
Love him
Be kind to Edward Tudor-Pole. He received such flack from fans saying that he wasn't as good as Richard O'Brian that afterwards he basically disowned the show and would act like it was nothing to do with him.
He's still the second-best presenter that the show has ever had.
I'd say third-best; I slightly prefer Richard Ayoade.
But then again, I find that man hilarious in basically anything he does.
Both Richard and Ed were excellent.
I cried
My 6yr old brain couldn't process he left
The era of Ed Tudor Pole began, there is a word in german which I think has said it all..
Richard O’Brien The Crystal Maze
@cdbils001 i did, but hay he lives in a quasai dimensional time warp with a handful of people counting the comeptitors who pass through, i figured hed got a lil crazy.

Both. They're going the long way round.
He needed some time to go get his PHD
his Pillow-Hurling Dexterity.
Wish tutor pole be in the reboot and pass the torch to Richard The it crowd
How did Ed Tudor-Pole end up getting the job as Richard's replacement is what I'd like to know. Were the two of them close friends at all?
I'm not sure but think they're cousins.
Ed starred in the stage version of the Rocky Horror Show so of course he and Richard are friends.
when i was a young i hated ed, now i'm re watching every episode to see if i still feel that way...
Milo spesh ....And ?...what’s your opinion now? 👍🏼👎🏼

Ed Tudor Pole made the mistake of trying too hard & in turn stifling his personality - it's no coincidence that the viewing figures dropped.
