What a great live video. I saw these guys live in like 2002 in a gymnasium in Maine in the middle of winter, with maybe 50-60 people in the audience at the most. I had only heard their album “Fakebook” and sincerely thought I was going to an acoustic show, so imagine how I felt when I saw Ira do THIS for 10 minutes, despite the lack of crowd, putting goddamn everything into that guitar. Totally unforgettable and it certainly made me a lifetime fan, that was 22 years ago and I still vividly remember it.
I saw Yo La Tengo and a Buffalo Tom open for My Bloody Valentine in 1992 I believe. It was at the Gothic Theatre in Denver Colorado. Yo La Tengo played this song and other stuff from PAINFUL a year before the album was released. I luv Buffalo Tom and especially My Bloody Valentine. My Bloody Valentine was the loudest band I have seen. Clearly one of the BEST shows of my life, up there with the Nirvana/Dinosaur Jr. show I saw in Denver in 1991. Those were definitely the daze.❤
Can't help getting goosebumps every time. Too incredible for words. Ira literally just makes love to his guitar for all to see and hear, and it's just incredible and so appropriate for the song's title. This is the most beautiful kind of music....
My all time fav of Yo La Tengo. My childhood home i St M. You guys are great. I was too shy to speak at the Satellite Lounge in Houston but I'll always have that memory of opening that back door an looking in on you guys.
Great song. They were just amazing in the early to mid 90s. They are still amazing now, but this was their peak. I have seen them many times and this song, Stockholm Syndrome, Motel 6, Blue Line Swinger and We're an American Band are some of the greatest live songs ever. It is great seeing Ira spaz out when he solos also.
Haha at the end the feedback is still open for him and he's like pondering what to do with it next. I swear he channels that sound like a wizard. From slower drones like in Big Day Coming (opener) to stuff like this and beyond.
every time i listen this song i break down and cry. it's like their loving what their doing... they're the anti-rock pose band and they're full of rock... just stoning, dude, just stoning...
What a staple this song is! How it always manages to circle back to that incredibly catchy riff after going berserk. And what a performance! Would love to see them live one day!

This is the gratest shit in the rock history. It means a lot of energy, power, attitude and soul. This song means rock n' roll.
It's true, no matter who comes out or what I listen to nothing ever knocks yo la tengo out of my #1 spot
Killer ending for a gorgeous album. Painful is their best album, in my opinion.
yep agree with electr-o-pura also ! :)
Easily
far and away
Keep coming back to this. Always such a good energy
.....and with that one familiar, eternal song the Universe came into being....resonating all possible harmonics of that original chord.
Hear fkn Hear!!!!
I believe James' smile around 5:50 is one of the best human moments ever to be caught on film.

You guys did the Satellite Lounge in Houston. I was there in front. I opened the back door but was too shy to speak. You are awesome.
One of my favorite songs of all time. I love the studio version and the live version of this song.

Seen them on this tour in the UK only having heard 'hearts'. Absolutely blown away, been my favourite band since.

The buildup that starts around 4:09, develops into a whole new language of emotion around 4:56 and resolves around 5:14 is just… 😭

Yo La Tengo joins Teenage Fanclub and Bedhead as one of the only (primarily) 90s bands that can make me teary
This is how finding inner peace feels.
