    Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

    This man was my childhood. Mad max. Lethal weapon. Braveheart. Give him a break. I've been drunk and said stupid shit and regretted it but this man is a legend. He deserves respect nowadays. There's so much worse that was said and is still being said. Welcome back sir

      Humans aren't infallible creatures. We've all done and said stupid shit. You are less of a person if you don't grow and develop as a human being, rather than stand and point a finger with a holier than thou attitude.

    • @tripp3468
      @tripp3468 7 років тому

      Toza Toza, spare me your apologetic speech. Even when "sober" he had a film, the Passion of the Christ, which was widely denounced in its embrace of the Catholic Church's historic anti-semitic interpretation of the Bible. I've done and said "stupid shit," sure, but I never made a movie that openly embraced antisemitism. But, I like to see your posturing, it would be very innocent and cute if what you're defending wasn't so malicious.

    • @Jammil2477

      Tripp K I don't care about your opinion, you are entitled too it. Yes he's had some unsavoury moments, will I forever demonise that person because of some moments? No, but that's my opinion. Has he murdered, raped or kidnapped anyone? No, he got pissed up and raged a few times whilst an alcoholic and he made a film. So what, a few words don't hurt anyone. Offence is taken not given and I have a thick enough skin to realise that.

    • @tripp3468
      @tripp3468 7 років тому

      Toza You're essentially defending his anti-Semitism because you personally like him. He made a widely popular film which was openly anti-Semitic, and you say "at least he didn't murder anyone" -- wow, what a brilliant intellectual!

    There are a lot of people who try to hold some outbursts against Mel as if that is who he really is. This guy did some amazing things for others and never talked about it. He helped Courtney Love, RDJ, Chris Rock, Britney Spears, and tried to help Withney too. The millions he donated for children who needed surgeries. The millions he donated to save hurricane victims, a lot of them in Mexico. We don't hear about that. And yet he could point them out to counter the accusations, but he never does. Get the fuck over it. He didn't kill anyone and had a long battle with alcoholism and anger issues.Mel Gibson is one of the greatest directors and actors of all time. In an era of superficial film-making, the man is an absolute gift to cinema. Get over yourselves and research the man before making up your mind about a person based on his worst moments. Tom Cruise is part of a mafia church and you're watching his films. A lot of the rappers have done some really bad shit and no one holds it against them. There are really some heinous individuals in Hollywood and Gibson is not one of them.

      Agreed; aside from celebrities with substance-abuse problems, I was surprised to hear Jodie Foster praise him in an interview, saying how he really was a true friend during a very difficult time in her life. The context was remarkable in that Foster said it, not really apropos of who helped her, but that she offered it up - when mention of Gibson was still very much anathema - and IMHO very much to her credit for having the courage to do so.

    Stephen Colbert was a good way for Mel Gibson to break the Ice.
    This segment and his interview with Mel felt like Stephen was giving him a "Welcome Back". Making it slightly awkward for Mel, but you could tell he made Mel feel comfortable and realize exactly what Stephen was doing... ESPECIALLY in the interview when he asks Mel Gibson "Do you ever ask yourself...Why do I have to Apologize when THAT GUY is running for Office?" ;)

    I think it's time Mel gets some forgiveness and we all recognize how brilliant of an actor, writer, director, and just overall talent he really is. Like him or not he is an all timer

    Good on Mel for coming out. It must be hard to come back after getting beat in the public eye so much. He deserved it initially, but it's been 10 years people! He hasn't altered our country or changed the way we think! And he's apologized. Let's give him another shot.
