Lived here as a kid 1972/81 great place to grow up surrounded by fields no crime really good people , then heroin arrived mid eighties from Liverpool then it went down hill fast … shame as my childhood memories were the best nesting camping motorbikes on the common 😢
@@Nice2bnic2 I lived 2 rows behind the greenwood , played on the building site when it was going up , not been in for years , was a great place in the 70s only graffiti was wickets painted on a shed wall on the square lol 😂
Have had to visit Warrington 3 times last year, like every uk town these days the centre is quite depressing but I found the people really helpful and friendly.
What did you find depressing? The only bit I find offputting about Warrington town centre is the ring road around it, that has a barren, industrial no-man's land vibe.
I served my time as a bricklayer with lads from Grasmere ave Warrington I'm originally from Liverpool south but I had a great time with them, always felt safe with the lads tough as nails a great community in those days (80's) , but like most communities they have been filled with out of area people may I say !
When I worked for Royal Mail I parked my van on that estate then went out delivering the mail, then I couldn’t find where I’d parked my van! nightmare but the locals where really friendly laughing with me but helping me in my search 😂
I've lived in the area for over 25 years and yes what you have shown is grim but not all the houses/flats are rough, theres some really nice houses further round and lovely parkland. The pub although looks like it belongs on shameless is actually ok inside- you should of called in you might of been surprised. The rubbish is due to the councils idea of caged bins and fly tipping- that's disgraceful!!!! All council estates attract unemployed(especially the flats) but most are working and struggling with the costs today. Yes its rough but I can honestly say theres some good hard working people from the estate and I feel safe walking the streets at night. Helen 54 year old, doesnt do crime, drugs or carry a gun!!!! 😂
I was around before the estate was built, there were army houses which were occupied by military and the officers mess. Greenwood Crescent was just being built and it was like living in the countryside. I remember farms, fields, horses. Now look at it! The architects didn’t give any thought to landscaping. 🌳
My mam lived there on Grasmere and it was rough as fuck then. The Grasmere pub was the same most of Orford is the same Billy try go round Longford or Latchford.
Never has been nice. Like every council estate, it has major issues with drugs. I have seen worse in Liverpool, Salford and Manchester but avoid that side of Warrington if you can. Lot of good areas in the town, Penketh, Gt Sankey, Grappenhall. Its not all run down.
By eck mate this as caused a stir on fb i lived on there for short time id heard all the bad things but as a community it was belting they all pull together
@@lb9647 There’s a lyric in the song that goes ‘hopes may rise on the Grasmere’ and even though that’s vague it’s totally possible as it’s the Smiths so it’s anyone’s guess.
@NorthEastMick I think The Smiths are on about The Lake District. The entire estate is named after places up there like there's Windermere Avenue etc.
Southworth, and molynuex was also a rough place to live in the 90s but was great if you lived there as I did and the bells that was on lonfshaw St was our local. Absolutely miss that place everyone knew each other and had that community spirit but if you was a stranger you had be cautious haha. Also cabul close orford had a bad rep too.
Nothing like it use to be in the late 80s 90s the drugs is no where near as bad as it was with the smack in them days and no where near as crime , but everyone looked out for everyone else the old days
You could of been in any Estate in the North West,if not Britain crazy, but seen a lot,lot worse. Never been to Warrington and I don't think I will be going any time soon. 💙.
I’ve seen a lot worse. Billy has no vision of content. He thinks people all think like him, ie, the hardest Man, the roughest area , Billy it’s easy to locate people who have achieved and made a contribution to the community. Billys next video will be drunks and vagrants and Junkies lying behind the shop .then telling us all how bad the World is treating them . People are sick to death seeing this stuff. Get some decent content Billy or fuc k off
Not really true, I grew up on a council estate on the other side of Warrington which was (and still is) clean and crimeless (although I don't think there's any if it left now which isn't privately owned), then in 1991 I moved onto Grasmere Avenue. Couldn't have been more different

Nahh mate it isnt that bad now. i often ride through there on my ebike aha. All ive had is compliments off the chavs that hang around the shops next too the pub...or at the pub 😂.. thats been day and night.. Saying that...back in the early 2000s that grey block of flats was indeed full of drug dealers and users, mainly cannabis and beak. The police here are rather chill on cannabis though (as long as you're a user and not a farmer and / or plug) 😂 . As of 2018 its been legal on prescription so i think they just let it be now for the most part. Just thought i'll share that🤙. Im new to your channel and i like seeing my town and liverpool.., i can now say.. Ooo ive been there 😂😂 so im a new sub 👍🫡
That doesn't look bad cosmeticly really Those flats could do with a render coat for sure. I don't always like the people communal areas and there properties that's what brings em down. It might be a bit cliquey there for sure.
Lived here a few years ago before moving back to liverpool - it honestly isn't rough, just knobhead kids most of the time like you get in most places, but most people there were solid. They used to have a carehome place and a housing place that was knocked down years ago there (across from the shop) not sure what it is now like. I can honestly say in the 15 years being in Warrington longford was the roughest, not here. Makes kenny down here seem like buckingham palace.
Flat roof Pubs are always dodgy, ha ha. If you think that's rough, try Bewsey just over the a49....did a job there 2yrs ago an it was absolutely mad, could have made a Fly on the wall documentary. 1 house had it's door kicked in and they were climbing in and out of the front window for at least a month while I was there.......🤣🤣🤣
Used to live at 88 grasmere in orford my next door neighbour fired a shotgun out the windown .. when i came back from shopping i ramg my friends to come around . I was looking out the window when suddenly armed police showed up an started guns up to my window lol i absolutely shit my pants hahaha
It's not the oldest. Other estates such as Poplars and Longford were there way before, probably 50s. Grasmere was built in the 60s/early 70s, I remember playing there on the building sites. Some scruffy parts occupied by scruffy people who dump litter everywhere. When you panned round outside the Greenwood, you showed Chris Evan's old house.

Hi Billy, Thanks for your vid, it does look rather tired, miserable and messy. However in fairness I've never actually been there so I can't speak any facts about the place. It does look gloomy though Billy. To be honest the same could be said about most Council estates up and down the country!. Watching this video doesn't exactly make me want to go there anytime soon. Anyway thanks again Billy. John. 🤔👍
It's not the roughest ir the oldest Grasmere is decent estate with mostly good people on it apart from a few bellends have a look at Longford Dallam latchmere all much older and rougher
