- Some people will stop at nothing to root out some...any....offence that they can possible winnow out of any particular situation. However, rarely have I seen it done so brazenly than by the perennially offended Essence of Thought yesterday.
This was absolute UA-cam/Twitter gold. The kind of desperate and unwitting brilliance that make these platforms worth paying attention to.
Rachel Oates makes a 75(!!!) minute defence of accusations Essence of Thought had levelled against her and his response was to trawl through the huge array of comments she had "hearted" in a bid to unearth one he could take offence to! .......and he succeeded so well done Peter, you have done the world of facile unnecessary drama-whoring sterling service once again.

It's gone beyond ridiculous now. Holy shit. Apologies have been made, positions clarified and rectified where needed, public social media hangings have occurred and still some people feel the need to be offended and go on the attack. At this point I'm inclined to say ignore it. It's like a fight with a troll - at some point you realise the only way to win the game is not to play it because they will find something to get offended at regardless. Rachel Oates i have been watching your videos for a long time now, youre amazing! Thank you for revealing EoT's true colors, i think him being upset about RR's video was somewhat justified but now he has shown how low he can go with his accusations. I used to watch EoT, but I had to stop when they started playing in the Oppression Olympics. Seriously, I get how it feels to be hated and looked down upon for who you are, but that doesn’t mean every perceived slight is an attack on you or the people with whom you associate yourself. You could visit the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and expect less dramatic responses than you do with dear old EoT nowadays, I'm afraid.
You know the funny part...? Despite our differences, you know what the final straw was, the thing that made me unsub from EoT? The way he (or is it 'she'; I honestly have no idea because EoT seems to swap between 'Peter' and 'Ethel' quite randomly) tends to speak.
There is a rhythm and cadence--these bizarre pauses in the middle of sentences that feel like a rollercoaster at the top of a long arc...pausing...pausing...then a sudden rush downward--that just started to really get on my nerves. It happens near the end of every few sentences, and it just plain got under my skin after a while.

EOT used to be reasonably rational and incisive despite being a little over-earnest, a little bit self important, and not being quite as bright as he sought to make out (I use "he" because he always used to describe himself as peter- though this is now peter/ethel I believe. The motivations for an obviously archaic female name are intriguing but beyond my expertise to analyse.). This stuff is really getting embarrassing for him though. He has bough, hook line and sinker, into dogmatic cults of woke-ness and lost track of the rational characteristics he used to champion and (largely) exhibit.
He’s a married man now...to a woman... but somehow feels “left out” because he’s not trans so he claims to be non binary, as though that’s a thing, and then stretches that to mean it’s part of “the trans community” as though there is only one trans community and we all know what that means and what they’re like (bc trans people who don’t outrage like him are just self loathers). Psychoanalyze that!
He’s still savvy enough to continue to ride this wave for possible 💰 and popularity.

The saddest part of this whole affair is the support that EoT is getting from his fanclub. And naturally it's the usual suspects- Big Trans Energy, Steel Toe Boot Liberal, chrisiousity, etc. It's surreal to watch the emergence of a cult of personality in real-time.

The comment above says he has aspergers. He comes out as an asshole and overreacting snowflake, but i'm willing to forgive his robotic way of speaking if it's caused by aspergers. I have only seen 2 of his videos concerning RR drama and found his way of speaking a bit annoying, didn't know he was on the spectrum :/
@ScepticalCynic I didn't say anything about excusing his behavior though. I only replied to people talking about his way of speaking and how its robotic and how it sounds when he swears.
The same happens with supporters of all parties involved. Putting aside who's in the right or wrong, it's been interesting to note that being a skeptic/rationalist doesn't preclude one from being subject to internet tribalism.
That subset of liberals has been cult like for a long time, and if they hadn't glommed onto EOT they would have just found someone else like her to follow. They really seem to like the ideas of guilt by association, and the ends justify the means. It's disheartening.
I don't understand why anyone is still paying any attention to EoT.
I'm not a big fan of comments threatening to break people's knees, joke or not, but I think the bigger issue here is EoT conflating said attack on them for lying with an attack on them for being a "trans person for sticking up for their human rights".

My point was that I think EoT was clearly stating with his tweet that the "break knees" commenter was inciting violence towards trans people fighting for human rights rather than violence towards an individual for being a liar, who is incidentally a trans person. If your point was that the "break knees" comment could conceivably incite someone to attack EoT you might have a point, but if you think it might incite people to break the knees of random trans people I don't agree.

I was very polite and simply, from a bystanders viewpoint, asked him if he thought it was right to say things about Rachel Oates. He seems to be hypersensitive. Now, I'm beginning to think he is just using this argument with Rationality Rules and his friends (Rachel Oates being one) as a trigger to pull people in to his site. It would be best to close ranks and ignore him. I seem to see something quite disingenuous going on.

I'm really disappointed in EoT. I started watching his channel 5 years back when it was really good. He seems to have changed for the worst now, unfortunately.
Ditto, he was a good voice for his. Now he's what, preaching to the choir, looking for views or delusional? End result is his ineffectiveness or worse for his cause.
To be honest, his old content wasn't really that great. Often it was filled with insults.
The worst part is that I agreed with EoT up until he started to lie about Rachel Oates, he took it too personal and ended up hurting his own argument.
He couldn't handle the RR trolls and started attacking anyone on sight.
He went overboard with RR too. RR made a mistake, and by all accounts, other than EoTs flimsy at best evidence of hostility, RR has acted in a completely decent manner, retracting previous incorrect statements and updating his view, the pursuit of knowledge isn't static.
I find it incredibly naive to believe that EoT has acted in good faith.

Also, he didn't make one mistake, he made a good amount of them in the original video, even before EoT debunked the faulty science in it I thought that video was terrible.
EoT is just as token as any other trans person, therefore your act of using EoT as a defense is bigotry.

I'm incredibly insulted and feel my mixed race community is damaged by EoT's inclusion and platforming of a person who constantly uses the outdated and dehumanising term 'negro'. I feel it has no place in today's language and EoTs actions normalise said bigoted language.
If anyone who is black or mixed race disagrees they're tokens who are too weak as to not internalise their own racism. Oh and you're now a bigot by association. Luckily I don't have an army of zealots to hound and bully you granted, but I'm not a vindictive bully so I wouldn't do that anyway.
Oh and I made this point on their channel, I was shadow blocked. No apology, no admission of guilt, no accountability. Just silenced as my mixed race voice is evidently unwelcome as I am too low on the rungs off the ladder of humanity. As EoT stated herself, I'm well within my right to assume malice motive, unless of course black and mixed race people are untermench.

I can tell you from experience it’s not just this video they’re done it on. I wasted time posting many comments on the videos against RR only to later discover I was muted, along with a lot of other people.
I didn’t even know muting comments on an entire video was a thing. For anyone unfamiliar, when you are muted you still see your own comment but no one else can. So you don’t even know it’s happened. It’s the most dishonest way to silence those with an opposing view.

I'm a little bit old school. I am so old-fashion that I still think there is a "real world" and a separate "online world". So I see all of this drama as really kind of weird. It is almost as though these are verbal attacks of a computer game character that doesn't really exist. But that's on me. I'm still living in 2012. I suppose for people like Rationality Rules and Rachel Oates it is literally an attack on their profession.

I've not always been sure where to give the benefit of the doubt on this whole thing--but can easily give Rachel Oates the benefit of the doubt that she doesn't actually advocate violence, and wouldn't have hearted that comment if she'd thought it was meant at all literally. If anything's a step too far, that's got to be it.
The comment was an undertale reference, 'chara' is a character, and there is a person who pretends to be her.

That is the argument; that gender identity is the issue and it’s discrimination not to let a trans women compete in the league they identify as.
It’s a complete misunderstanding of the issue of course. The issue of what gender the athlete identifies as is completely irrelevant. What matters is the physical body of the competitor.

As far as essence of thought goes I have some sympathy for them... (Peter and Udita) I suspect they feel like all of our little community is not just against them and gunning for them but also against trans people in general at the moment.
I hope trust Peter and Udita do a better job of supporting each other than some other very fiery UA-camrs who got extremely worked up over various issues and decided to blow off some steam by taking magic mushrooms. They don’t strike me as volatile in the same way but they are in India and that isn’t the safest place to be different and belligerent.

BionicDance I suspect Peter at least likes to see the more provocative (to him) comments first. I view the comments mostly on my phone and the app doesn’t have a setting to change the order when viewing someone else’s video’s comments.
Definitely no argument from me on the second point, I don’t know if they do their tweets as a team but especially when you are dealing with people who constantly have religious people taking things out of context and spinning jokes into threats jumping on something like that is no way to change minds or foster a conversation. Particularly when the person you are accusing is as dam nice as Rachael.
I have been the activist in danger of isolating myself from potential friends and allies because of some moral purity .... and it was especially bad living in a place that wasn’t anything like as progressive as my home (I was in rural Malaysia) so I have a lot of sympathy for them... on the other hand I was able to take advice and stay away from walking myself off in an echo chamber (and I am stubborn enough that I still think of my ideals as superior ;-p)
I hope they pull through and don’t start taking to many risky stands in real life.

I have watched some of EOT'sother videos that were not that bad but, holy shit, his behavior on this issue should lay bare what/who he really is. He is basically ending his UA-cam career (if it was even that great to begin with). He will end up with just a few radical followers. Hope it wasn't a reliable source of income for him.

Enjoyed the video. Some advice on misgendering in some of the comments. Maybe I'm wrong and if I am please tell me, but I usually find it safest to use they/their pronouns if I am unsure. I know most of us don't support EoT, but I think purposeful misgendering and mocking of a trans person shouldn't be condoned no matter how much of a little shit they might be as an individual.
Wrt EoT specifically he is happy with male, female or neutral pronouns.

It certainly is ridiculous to go out of you're way to find something to be offended by. I for one, find this to be particularly strange, because I don't like experiencing the negative feelings that come with be offended, especially if it's constantly repeated.
EoT seems to be taking a very uncharitable view in the critiques of other's views. I was recently re-watching some old videos about how this all started, and EoT straight up accuses Steven Woodford (Rationality Rules) of pandering to the right, al a Dave Rubin/Sargon of Akkad style. This is clearly an unfair characterization of what Steven has done and continues to do.
It comes from this desire to pigeonhole people and make it easy to dismiss or accept them. We shouldn't be thinking about accepting or rejecting someone in their entirety because of one particular view they may or may not have.
EoT is one of the strangest human beings I've had the pleasure of being bored by. Forget Ambien, 4 out of 5 doctors recommend EoT for moderate to severe sleeplessness. If EoT were to smile it would change the weather.

Yeah... Not respond at all because.. It's none of yours or anyone else's business to make a response. And, the two parties involved should sort their differences out through their own series of videos/responses. Unless you can give me a valid reason or reasons why you or anyone else should make a video about other people's problems? Yeah, you could say that your video response would bring awareness and light to the issue, but still, it's the responsibility of the people involved, not yours imo. And, especially, when you or anyone else doesn't know what the two individuals think/feel entirely. Yes, EOT's responses are quite ridiculous, but why make a video about it? This comment isn't to defend either Rachel Oates or EOT, but to say I don't understand why people think they should make video responses to other UA-camrs' ordeals. Plus, that's just another video about Rachel/EOT that they both have to worry about the video misconstruing and misunderstanding both their situations. As we have seen happen with the list on Facebook that Rachel made aware, which included her name and a bunch of other youtubers. The list was wrong and caused a lot of harm to each individual. I'm sorry for long comment, but I'm just confused about why you have made this response video. I'd like an answer so that I can become more aware of why videos like these are necessary, and so that will change my mindset about this kind of thing. Right now, I could just be naive and ignorant about these kinds of videos.
