I used to tune everything out when I was a kid when it came to math conversions from units of volume and now I have a job where I have to know how to convert everything. My parents didn't take the time teach my siblings and I a lot of important life skills. The school at least attempted to teach me how to convert proper measurements. Public schools suck. They are garbage and it's up to the parents to teach thier kids life skills

For Hurricane Laura, we had no electricity for 14 days. We ran 4 fans and lights off of a 2000/4000 power inverter I purchase from harbor freight for my son, grandsons, and me to use for camping in the woods off my tractor battery. At night I would run the tracker for about 4 hours and 2 hours during the day to keep the battery charged. With a 2000/4000 inverter, you can run around 16 amps. continuous as long as you have a way to keep the battery charged. Led lights are what you want to use.

Yes it will run anything upto 600 watt drawn continuously and it offers upto 1000 watt of starting power required for some AC motors. You can get away with something like a 300 watt dc to ac inverter. Hope that helps and answers your question
Thanks for the warm comments. How many devices it can run totally depends on the amps or wattage of whatever it is that you plan on running. Almost every device has a sticker stating its power requirements. It may say 110v 0.5a or amp. 110 x 0.5 = 55watts. This is just an example. Some stuff requires higher starting power such as a blender or an ac motor. You can always buy a bigger inverter than 600watts. In fact most people use 1500 watt inverter and that generally can run anything. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask questions.

@@debfassbinder9283 no problem Deb. You should be fine with a 600 watt inverter if your sewing machine is like 100 watts or less like most Singer brand sewing machines. Not sure about the energy requirement for your machine however there should be a sticker with its specs. If you have trouble understating it you can read it off to me and I can confirm it for you. But i dont see why a 600 watt inverter wouldnt be able to.

Just one 12 volt battery and an inverter, no matter the quality and efficiency of the inverter will run an entire home. Even if you wanted to run a full size fridge it will only do so for 3-8, maybe 10 hours. A stand alone battery with nothing replenishing it, whether that's an alternator or solar won't sustain most of the things you would use in your home. If you had an inverter large enough (at least 1,000 watt) and wanted to run a microwave you'll drain it fast. A generator is the best alternative for any length of time. A small 2,000 watt inverter generator can run for hours on a gallon of fuel and power just about anything in your home IF you run them one at a time with the exception of water heaters, central HVAC systems and clothes driers. A little inverter generator will run a fridge and a deep freeze or a fridge, TV and a couple lights. It just depends on your power needs. A large 12 volt battery is excellent if you want to have one on standby to charge phones. I have one I keep on a maintainer charger so it's always charged and when the power goes off you can plug up a wire with a 12 volt (cigarette lighter) socket and use your car charger and keep phones charged. You can charge several phones for several days that way without needing a re-charge. If you do run ot down just take it out to your vehicle and run jumper cables to the battery from your car battery as you leave the car idling for an hour or so and then you have a fresh battery to charge phones and devices for several more days. I have a 12 volt 22" LED TV I use in a tent with a deep cycle battery out of my boat and it will run that TV all weekend and keep our phones charged. A little LED 12 volt TV will only draw about 2-3 amps so it will last a good while.

If you have a laptop, you are MUCH better off using a car adapter and running it directly off of the battery. You aren't going to get much run-time with most desktop PCs because they just use too much power. An absolute minimum of 100 watts for monitor and PC. Most use 200 or more. A laptop might use between 20 and 30.
I don't have the Alligator clips, but I have the red and black wires with terminals at each end to connect from the inverter to the battery. Anything important I need to know before I try attaching them?
Genuine question: I want to use my shed for hobby crafting. My shed has no electricity, can I but an inverter and battery such as a car battery keep this in the shed and run a cricut( cutting printer type machine) and a surface pro 5 ? I am purchasing rechargeable lamps so I can bring them into the house and recharge. I do think that those are the only two things and maybe just maybe a fan for summer weather. Please help! Sure I can help with that. First we need to determine how much electricity your Cricut printer consumes. Surface pro 5 barely takes any power. A 600 watt inverter as shown in this video should be sufficient to run everything in your shed however once we figure out how much power your printer takes. Also keep in mind that car batteries are pretty heavy and I'm not sure how far your shed is from your main house as carrying it maybe a hassle. You could use Lithium batteries as they are lighter but keep in mind they cost 3 times as much as the regular batteries that go in your car. If carrying a heavy battery once in a while to it's charging station is not an issue go for it. I use a 12v 8amp charger to charge these batteries when needed and rest assured that these new pure sinewave inverters have built in protection against reverse polarity, over load protection, and several other protections. It will not harm your surface pro, cricut or any other sensitive electric device that's plugged into your power inverter. Well, you can use your car, solar panels, small wind turbines, a car alternator hooked up to bike and etc. You can go creative finding alternative power sources. For example I personally used to connecting some extra batteries to my tractor, so it could charge them while working in fields.
You can buy it from aliexpress as you are in Italy and they ship world wide. I use a 12v charger that plugs into the wall outlet but as someone else mentioned you can use solar or any other charger

My biggest concern for power would be my fridge and heaters. A fellow told me that the inverter would only power the fridge a day. He recommended a propane fridge (like those for RVs )and a 20 gallon propane tank. My grandma used to use propane when I was a kid. Glad it's still around.

I recharge it using an 8amp an hour charger that plugs directly into your home power outlet. You can use a solar panel and a charge controller or connect it directly to your van and it will charge as long as the van stays on. Cars alternator usually produced 14.4 Amp an hour so you do the math. Chargers are fairly cheap about 50 bucks for a really nice one.
That depends on the load, efficiency of the inverter, as well as the battery capacity. In this video you see a 100ah (amps per hour) capacity battery. 100 amps x 12v= 1200watts total capacity in this case. When you connect an inverter to make 110-115v using your 12v battery depending on your inverter you will see some where around 90 to 95 efficiency. Then you have to take in account that batteries can not be drained all the way or you will kill them and wont be able to recharge them. You asked how do i charge this battery. There are several different ways to do that. If you have access to power you can charge it with a 12v battery charger like i do. Its an 8amp an hour smart battery charger and maintainer by Schumacher and when i need to go on a camping trip i can take just the battery and the inverter with me. My load generally is very low. I mean a small table fan and few led bulbs so it serves the purpose well. I have used a small generator in the past to keep the battery topped off during the day for couple of hours on a camping trip while using using load of fans and other electronics and that way at quiet hours of the camp grounds at night you are not disturbing anyone with the obnoxious generator noise lol. You could also get a 50 or 100 watt solar panel and a charge controller combo for about 120 that will make you completely off grid and keep the batteries charged. Depending on your load you may need more solar panels but for what i use it for one panel would be enough. What are you looking this setup for?
@@firstladypresident no you could probably even run a small window ac unit with it. Your inverter can handle it. A 19 inch tv depending on whether its a lcd or the old school one shouldnt take more than a 100 watt. The question is what is your battery size? What type of battery it is? Whether its agm deep cycle or some other. I have run a 42 inch lcd in my camper with my 650watt inverter while chargibg laptop and phones.
@@firstladypresident you might want to read the specs on your tv and they should be posted behind your tv. It should state how many amps is your tv at 110 or 120v. Usually it would say something like 110v x .95a

I don't have the Alligator clips, but I have the red and black wires with terminals at each end to connect from the inverter to the battery. Anything important I need to know before I try attaching them?

Genuine question: I want to use my shed for hobby crafting. My shed has no electricity, can I but an inverter and battery such as a car battery keep this in the shed and run a cricut( cutting printer type machine) and a surface pro 5 ? I am purchasing rechargeable lamps so I can bring them into the house and recharge. I do think that those are the only two things and maybe just maybe a fan for summer weather. Please help! I just can’t seem to wrap my head around the numbers and units of measurement revolving electricity and I know that if I hook up incorrectly I can damage my computer and my Cricut machine which I don’t have the money to replace should this happen . Running power cords is not currently an option. Thank you to anyone who helps!
Sure I can help with that. First we need to determine how much electricity your Cricut printer consumes. Surface pro 5 barely takes any power. A 600 watt inverter as shown in this video should be sufficient to run everything in your shed however once we figure out how much power your printer takes. Also keep in mind that car batteries are pretty heavy and I'm not sure how far your shed is from your main house as carrying it maybe a hassle. You could use Lithium batteries as they are lighter but keep in mind they cost 3 times as much as the regular batteries that go in your car. If carrying a heavy battery once in a while to it's charging station is not an issue go for it. I use a 12v 8amp charger to charge these batteries when needed and rest assured that these new pure sinewave inverters have built in protection against reverse polarity, over load protection, and several other protections. It will not harm your surface pro, cricut or any other sensitive electric device that's plugged into your power inverter. Well, you can use your car, solar panels, small wind turbines, a car alternator hooked up to bike and etc. You can go creative finding alternative power sources. For example I personally used to connecting some extra batteries to my tractor, so it could charge them while working in fields.
You can buy it from aliexpress as you are in Italy and they ship world wide. I use a 12v charger that plugs into the wall outlet but as someone else mentioned you can use solar or any other charger

You got to have an inverter. Battery power is 12volts vs. power in your home is 110v

Hmm, it sure would be nice to know how many hours a fully charged car battery would power a device or devices that use, say 100w.
My biggest concern for power would be my fridge and heaters. A fellow told me that the inverter would only power the fridge a day. He recommended a propane fridge (like those for RVs )and a 20 gallon propane tank. My grandma used to use propane when I was a kid. Glad it's still around.

Inverters generally have an On/OFF switch which basically turns off the inverter and everything that's plugged in it.

I recharge it using an 8amp an hour charger that plugs directly into your home power outlet. You can use a solar panel and a charge controller or connect it directly to your van and it will charge as long as the van stays on. Cars alternator usually produced 14.4 Amp an hour so you do the math. Chargers are fairly cheap about 50 bucks for a really nice one.

That depends on the load, efficiency of the inverter, as well as the battery capacity. In this video you see a 100ah (amps per hour) capacity battery. 100 amps x 12v= 1200watts total capacity in this case. When you connect an inverter to make 110-115v using your 12v battery depending on your inverter you will see some where around 90 to 95 efficiency. Then you have to take in account that batteries can not be drained all the way or you will kill them and wont be able to recharge them. You asked how do i charge this battery. There are several different ways to do that. If you have access to power you can charge it with a 12v battery charger like i do. Its an 8amp an hour smart battery charger and maintainer by Schumacher and when i need to go on a camping trip i can take just the battery and the inverter with me. My load generally is very low. I mean a small table fan and few led bulbs so it serves the purpose well. I have used a small generator in the past to keep the battery topped off during the day for couple of hours on a camping trip while using using load of fans and other electronics and that way at quiet hours of the camp grounds at night you are not disturbing anyone with the obnoxious generator noise lol. You could also get a 50 or 100 watt solar panel and a charge controller combo for about 120 that will make you completely off grid and keep the batteries charged. Depending on your load you may need more solar panels but for what i use it for one panel would be enough. What are you looking this setup for?

@@firstladypresident no you could probably even run a small window ac unit with it. Your inverter can handle it. A 19 inch tv depending on whether its a lcd or the old school one shouldnt take more than a 100 watt. The question is what is your battery size? What type of battery it is? Whether its agm deep cycle or some other. I have run a 42 inch lcd in my camper with my 650watt inverter while chargibg laptop and phones.
@@firstladypresident you might want to read the specs on your tv and they should be posted behind your tv. It should state how many amps is your tv at 110 or 120v. Usually it would say something like 110v x .95a
