Just great stuff. What a great time to be young. The sky was the limit. I was at Spring Nationals in 66 and saw Gartlets, Prudomme, Nicholson, Montgomery race over the years. It was a passion. Loved the Anglias, Willys,slingshots. and funny cars. Hell I loved it all. Great videos and music. Thank you.
@tuffycanner Thanks! I originally had Booker T and the MGs "Green Onions" on this video but youtube wouldn't allow it so I tried to do my own version of that song. I have another version of this video called "Gassers At 131 Dragway In The '60s". In that video I did the entire soundtrack myself and I did a much better version of "Green Onions". Thanks again for the nice comment, it means a lot! John
I was 10 in 1955 , what a life I had in the 50s & 60s buying cars !!!!!!! My first " NEW " car was a 1967 Cougar 390 4 speed , what a car !!!! I had a lot of fun with it at Dragway 42 in 67/68 .........
The Mustang, far lane, @ 0:37 is the Stone-Wood-Cook AA/GS after they moved on from the original "Swindler" series which used a 1941 Willys' body. The original SWC Willys was actually powered by an Oldsmobile 394" block. Later they moved on to the '57-'58 Chrysler 392" block. Doug "Cookie" Cook, who drove for Fred Stone & Tim Woods, was nearly killed in a bad crash driving the Mustang.
Great picks and old movies back when Drag Racing at it's best. I miss all the Gassers. Back when the girls were cute, the guys were Tuff, and the cars were cool
At 1:03 you have one of the two strongest AA/GS cars that ran out of SoCal around 1967-68. The other was Shores & Hess. Both were Anglia bodies and both were powered by big-block Chevys (Rat-Motors).
