@@SabbaticalTommy better to just learn mpre swahili and of course you're good at english. Sheng can change so frequently that even i who lives just south of nairobi in mombasa find myself baffled when i go there. But you can easily get by with just english in nairobi especially nowadays.

I also agree lounging on the beach gets boring after a short time. Meeting people and having adventures are much preferred.
Next time when buying small goods give out small money. Like when you bought those bananas for 300TZS use one thousand or five hundred shilling coins to reduce the hassle for change.
You're my kind of traveler. Expensive resorts can be anywhere by a beach and be very similar. These Russian people bore me. There are Russians that excite me, but not these. Going to a place and learning their language and communicating with folks that live in villages, that's real traveling and really experiencing a place. Because you speak in their language, are respectful, are adventurous, and a bit kinda crazy to do some of what you do, I've subscribed to your channel. And I'm also from New York.
Ben... Yes i totally agree with you. Im Russian myself and i spent about 8 years in Kenya and could visited tanzania several times. Know some basic swahili, luo and kikuiyu languages. But the problem is that whenever I talk to someone here they automatically switch to English, all of them, including my wife 😂 but on Kenya, especially in Nairobi swahili is stronly mixed with english and few other local languages.. The outcome is called Shang. So probably thts why they prefer English here unlike the coastal regions or tanzania. Generally speaking majority of my fellow Russians bore me as well)) i always try to convince them to learn English as it is a gate to other cultures. As for me i did it when i was a kid)) thanks to video games, because our English program in schools suck(

Cheers from a Canadian long term traveller (+18 years abroad travelling to 76 Countries so far, 11 in Africa ) currently living in Taiwan 🇹🇼

Hakuna Matata is not Zanzibari, this is originated from musician group in Kenya who started singing about Kenya Hakuna Matata, Zanzibar Music is mainly Taraab. I AM Zanzibari born and done all my education there, but a lot of so called Zanzibari Tourist guides needs to be educated about history of Zanzibar, they have been distorting the history and they tell tourist lots of lies about Zanzibar, at least I see you have done your home work on the real history. Even now the original Zanzibari dialect is disappearing slowly.

I've kind of gotten sucked into your videos over the past few days. It never ceases to amaze me how much the same life is among simple people the world over. I've lived much of my life in Asia and except for the language and the appearance of the people in your videos, any of them could have been shot in Asia or South America. Right down to the sachets of shampoo hanging on the string across all the little home storefronts. I have enjoyed watching the chill vibe of the people in your videos.
The knowledge you have of these people and their demeanor seems like it has ensured your safety a few times. I'm only a handful of videos in, so far but you definitely put a ton of work into your craft. It shows.

Me too. When my Ghanaian wife and I go to the street market she told me not to pay what they ask at first. She will do the haggling. and get much lower price.
I have see enough of this guy now to know that he is the Jeremy Wade of traveling. He prefers to be in somebody’s village speaking their language. Polyglot traveler. Real experiences. I feel like I get a better perspective of African village life from this guy. That Zanzibar beach is beautiful. Also he is a savage😂 That guy was like I want a banana and he told him the store is over there go get one 😂

Zanzibar was a meeting point for many trade routes from the east to the west and has alot of migrants from the Arabian peninsula especially Oman as it was part of the omanian sultanate at the middle ages
