- Haunted hijinx in this sleepy seventies flick starring the dearly departed Karen Black and Oliver Reed as a family who caretake a country manor over the weekend and too late discover an evil presence within.
If you'd like to know what happens, just fill in the minor holes in this trailer, which basically lays the entire movie out for you in chronological order.
This movie traumatized me when I was ten! Today I watched it for the first time since, expecting it to be corny and boring. Good lord, I was captivated and scared! I’ve seen so many horror movies that I’m a bit desensitized to them, so I’m really surprised that this forgotten movie from the 70s got me so good! 100% recommend!
Donal Finn Yeah, you’ve really got to dig for good new stuff. The most recently made movies that scared the the ever-loving hell out of me are The Witch, Insidious, The Babadook, and The Body of Jane Doe. I can’t say they’re all clear of at least a little shock value, but these are the ones that have terrified me as an adult. I’ve had so many Insidious nightmares. How do you feel about Paranormal Activity?
And ditto about CGI horror. I hate it. It’s soulless and not scary at all!
Donal Finn The Babadook and The *Autopsy* of Jane Doe are the ones that employ just a little bit of gimmicky stuff. They definitely don’t lean on it though. The Babadook is one of those that make you afraid to open your eyes while lying in bed in the dark.
Donal Finn Did you ever get to watch it?
Yeah. The Chauffeur messed me up as a kid. Think it came on TV when I was 7-8 years old and that creep had me running out of the living room. Lol.
oh, my god, to be a fly on the wall during the production. What a cast! They must have had a fabulous time.
They fiercely hated one an other
@@d.e.p.5624 all the better in terms of interest :-D
@@d.e.p.5624 says who ? That’s Bs
That's what I always wondered--Black, Reed and Davis were each already famous for being "temperamental," so the production must have been a real head-butting festival. I wish someone who worked on it would write a tell-all.

A new commentary from an interviewer
or film historian (since most of the cast
& director Dan Curtis are gone now)
that could be included on
a Criterion Collection edition
might be a better idea.
I have read/heard that Bette Davis
despised Reed's reckless abandon
& arrogant attitude off screen
& that she felt Black didn't give her
proper respect. Black had much
admiration for Eileen Heckart
(Roz Allardyce), though.
What's really unusual is that
Anthony James (the chauffeur)
has no lines, yet is identified
by name in the closing credits,
which wouldn't normally happen,
even though his image is one
of the most memorable things
about the film. That would be
interesting to hear about.
Oddly, Davis & James appeared
together again about 2 years later
in, of all things, a Disney sequel,
"Return From Witch Mountain",
which also starred Christopher Lee!
An underrated classic haunted house film! It's based on the terrifying novel by Robert Marasco that Stephen King has said influenced THE SHINING.
That hearse driver gives me chills everytime I see him
Hasn't he played creepy guys all the time since?
@@tubechic71 yeah, he said once he likes to play the bad guy in acting
I rented this movie years ago when blockbuster was open. It’s a really good movie. 👍🏾👏🏾
As with all horror movies, this one was heavily influenced by prior such flicks yet still manages to be top 1% scary on its own.
Most of the genre tend to be miserable, dreary, tedious, and just not entertaining. But this one is truly frightening, exciting, and enjoyable despite the dark subject matter. Be sure to catch all of the hidden references.
Underrated masterpiece.
Me too I remember I watched it as a child on a Saturday, didn’t know what expect,to this day still remember the feeling I felt when he walked in that room and saw his wife’s face probably the most scared I ever been watching a movie still remember the chill I will never forget this movie
This movie has always scared me. Still does!😳😳
Agreed! I still remember that final scene 40 years later! lol
This is a classic, horror
Underrated movie.
Really well done and well acted movie.
I will never forget the ending, very scary
Karen Blacks face at the end traumatized me.. I’ll never forget it
I love this film, classic.
It's one of our most popular trailers.
That house is used as the mausoleum in Phantasm.
Also the James Bond movie "A View to a Kill"
And in the Mike Myers comedy So I Married An Axe Murderer.
thought it looked familiar.. wheres the location
I am hopping Flanagan will make the novel his third Haunting season. After all he done several Stephen King adaptations and this influenced him when doing The Shinning.
Bestial movie ... a great classic
These 1970's films are horrifying. 😨😳😱😢
I am finding stills from the movie that were not in the movie. So there has to be some deleted scenes, unused scenes.
Classic Horror Movie's will alway's be the best.
Love this movie. I own it on DVD.
What about Rob? - I love it too. So underrated. I actually saw this when I was about 10 and was blown away. This film and the Omen are 2 classics.
@@pjcannaday6337 I saw it for the first time on television (probably 1977) and it scared the hell out of me. The chauffer was the creepiest part. I've been watching this movie consistently since it came out on VHS. Great movie.
Love this movie .
'70s classic horror at its finest! Any Best of Horror list without this movie is a fraud.
Fantastic trailer, but they spoil the movie with all the good scenes!!
I've been looking for this movie! Me and my mom watched it on TV one year on or around hollaween and it was so good.
The whole movie was in this trailer lmao😂. One of my favorites since I was a kid though. They don’t make them this creepy anymore.
It’s so funny how many older trailers let you literally put all the pieces together
Love this movie so much.
It took its time to hit Blu-Ray, but it's here now :)
Great film with great cast
RIP Anthony.
Mannnnnnnn I been looking for this movie for sometime omg !!!!! Yessssss
Un peliculon se las recomiendo los actores brillantes y el final es alucinante me encanto y es de mucho suspenso y es del genio dan curtis buenisimo
I'd complain about the spoiler, lead actor getting thrown out the window, but I'm about 45 years too late. What's
the statute of limitations?
You are right. Plenty of spoilers. Thankfully I am watching this long after seeing the movie
I know right, I was thinking the same thing! Spoiler alert, Oliver Reed, gets thrown out of a window...in the end!
What a dreadful trailer for a fantastic movie
Has The Penguin in it awesome
0:49 I don't why this bit's hilarious to me, but it is.
That Walker character is hilarious!
Great film and cast ,first time I seen it new years eve 2021
Once again, Please follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/DTTrailers, Thanks!
I loved this movie when i was a kid. But I had nightmares about the hearse driver.
Seeing this film, makes me want to see it again, cause just like the movie event horizon, the house knows the fears of those who rented the house and knows their secrets, gets in the heads of the renters and shows them, could be my guess
Creepy evil film 70s style.
Beautiful mansion when it was fixed up.
I watching this movie ...dang heebie jeebies out of me
while watching Haunting of hill house i thought of this movie ^
A great sleeper horror movie
Scary 😸
The man who plays the father, I've heard was very unpleasant to be around. A bit of a bully mixed in with drunken and odd behavior.
Anyone who wants to can
recommend this movie be added
to The National Film Registry.
I went to the location of that home and it didn't look like the house in the movie it must be a different house
It was used in Phantasm as well
This ain’t scary 😉
Wtf was happening??? 1:28
The house had a mind all its own and that brother and sister duo (Heckart and Meredith) were real creepy and sinister. The opening scene is the only scene they are in. The house effect on Marion was immediately. The tension in the marriage did not help the situation at all. There is no mother and that ending . . . one of my favorites of the horror genre.
