Would the shelter allow a potential adopter to set with a dog? People need to realize that how a dog acts in a kennel environment will be different then home!
That would require staff supervision tho, as they are legally liable if the dog turns on the person. In the UK I had to visit 4 times before adopting & took him on the existing daily scheduled walks with the other staff walkers. It's to make sure you realise the dogs needs beforehand.
Some shelters has a "foster to adopt" program which allow people to take a dog for a few days or weeks before they commit to adopting. It's a lot better than adopting a dog based of a very short meeting then returning the dog to the shelter a few month after.
Rocky, what amazes me is that you can give the same spiel over and over again and still make it sound new and spontaneous. It's because you care, over and over again!
And that's why dogs warm up to him because they sense he does care ❤ he treats them on his level and not down to them. That's the secret why he so good he speaks to them that we are all on same page and dogs know who's genuine and kind and who is not.
The dog we adopted didn't make a sound or interact with us for almost a week. We are retired so we just waited it out. That was ten years ago, and we have totally enjoyed the personality that took a while to blossom. It was worth the wait!
Wesley looks to be a Catahoula Hound dog. I've had several. They're very sensitive and extremely intelligent. If people don't know what they are or how they behave, they can get the wrong impression from them. They're working dogs, herding, hunting and protecting their humans. They're NOT for everyone and people need to understand the breed. People often confuse them with Australian shepherds because of their coloring and tendency to have blue eyes. But they're a very different breed. I love them and hope to always have one.
I adopted a male Siberian Husky 2-1/2 yrs old that had been running wild after being in 6 other locations, fosters, adopted and returned numerous times, in rescues. They had to trap him to then take him to a rescue. When we got him I told him this would be his last and final and loving home. He was the 6th Siberian Husky we had adopted through the years. The poor little man, it took him six months before he would give even me his eyes in trust. He was the master of escape and deception, proving what a very very smart boy he was. I have found a dog that has been bounced around or that survived on its own has learned how to survive without humans. Patience, creating communication, trust, and consistency with our boy let him know he was finally safe. Please let the dog you adopt feel safe and give them the much needed time they need to get there!❤
Wesley is confused and scared. He is the sweetest dog with beautiful fur colors. He and the other animals deserve better. Thanks for going back into his kennel and loving on him, Rocky. ❤🐕
I adopted a heeler mix from a shelter - returned twice, shut down. precious and sweet as can be. Scheduled for euthanazation for “being bad” (digging). I have now had her for 11 years, and she has been so amazing. She has my best friend through thick and thin. She took care of my grandma in hospice and is so kind to everyone she meets. So incredibly intelligent. And a sense of humor off the charts. Don’t give up on the sad heelers. They deserve so much and the best dogs anyone can ask for.
What the?!Part of building a relationship with a dog is to train them. It's a rewarding bonding experience for animal and human. I have learned as much about myself as my dogs have learned about good pup etiquette probably. Anyone who adopts a rescue with expectations that the pup is turnkey is NOT the right person and would likely return or mistreat the animal out of frustration. And that would shut the animal down even more. We are rooting for you Mr Wesley. You deserve the world. ❤
I have rescued several dogs that were shut down, tense, moody, snippy.... and they turn out to be just WONDERFUL! They just need time and love. Wesley, may your new family come and get you soon! You are a doll!
I adopted a 6 month dog that was walking the streets. He lays under blankets to this day, like a safe place. Going on 6 yrs. and a happy boy.....BTW he's a heeler/border collie!!
My dog does that too. She was brought to Ohio after the floods in Kentucky. Then a family adopted her and brought her back the next day. She is a loving, wonderful, quirky dog.
It is a huge commitment to rescue a dog. I think highly of the people. You don't just rush in and adopt a kid, you shouldn't feel rushed to adopt a dog. Introduce yourself. Make visits. You have a kind heart and I wish you the best!
Geez about that family who was going adopt and didn’t feel as though he was acting right. ANY time you adopt or LOOK to adopt a dog and especially if you’ve adopted before, you have to KNOW or ASSUME there will be an adjustment period! It could be long or not. Every dog is different. And to not have taken the time for him, makes me believe that family didn’t know much about dogs and wasn’t right for him anyway. NO dog who has been in a shelter is the “perfect” dog because of the uncomfortableness OF being in a shelter. ROCKY I love what you do. It’s so admirable. Wish I could do the same.
It's so important to recognize our limits as animal carers. I'm glad that they came, and I'm glad that they realized that it wouldn't be a good fit rather than take Wesley home for a day or two and then have to bring him back which would have been more dramatic for him. It's also important to understand that shelter animals are going to be on a broad spectrum of training and behavior, in the limits that the shelter has to work within.
I’m sure there will be someone that will be perfect for Wesley and he will be perfect for them. It takes time and patience for an adopted animal to adjust to their new environment. We don’t always know what they’ve experienced in the past. I feel he’s never been shown affection. It’s up to the OWNER to provide training, the shelter just provides “shelter“ nourishment and appropriate vaccines and spay and neuter. That in itself is a blessing to the animals. I praying Wesley will find a loving forever home. 🙏🏻 ❤ 🐾
I have found that with a rescue dog and even w dogs just rehomed that it can take up to a year for them to " sleep w both eyes shut". Trust takes time and patience.
Thank you, we made a 16 hour round trip in one day to meet him and spent 2 hours with him, he’s amazing. We fully intend to adopt this sweet boy in mid July when we are able to come back down and get him
Poor baby needs a foster. Some really intelligent dogs don't do well in a shelter environment. They lose hope and shut down easily. From your previous interactions, he's a very sweet boy who just needs a chance to really decompress. Herders also tend to attach to a person and are more focused on that selection. He's handsome.
I had a very , very timid Jack Russell/ foxie cross, and even though I was very protective of her, nothing I did made her less timid. I loved her for how she was. Timid dogs can be very loving .
Almost two years ago, we welcomed an Envigo survivor into our family. With all of the challenges of dealing with lab test/puppy mill girl has been a steep learning curve. Each little sign of progress is a cause of celebration: first tail wag, first seeking of affection, first independent exploration of the yard. However long it takes, our Daisy has her forever home.
Rocky, of my 8 companions, 7 are rescues, they understand how lucky they are and love me as much as I love them, my latest is an Aussie and he has turned into a piece of Velcro, whether inside or outside the house, God, I love them so much.
This is a very smart dog, maybe he didn't want to go with the clueless person. I believe he fell in love with you Rocky and then you left. Just seems so sad. We know you will help him find a loving home 😊 he belongs out in the woods and lakes with a mountain man 😊
I have lived with a squirrel for 2 years. Food and water, she comes in and out. Yesterday she jumped up on the couch to snatch my avocado. I jumped and she got down. Today she jumped up again. Usually she just observes me.
Awe sweet Wesley needs what all rescue dogs need either a foster or a patient understanding home. Even another dog that can bring him out of his shell to where he can become the dog he's scared to be. Kindness goes a long way with rescues traumatized animals
I can understand the people changing their mind about him. Most people aren't dog behaviorists and have no idea what to do with a dog that is shut down.
I adopted a 2yo jr rescue last jan. He's learning how to go for walks, and loves his treats for being a good boy. He's afraid of the wind, any loud noises, and is terrified of men. Little by little we are working together so he can live his best life. He's adorable and I love him very much and he is my devoted friend. It always takes time and patience. There's been times when I've had to go sit outside for 10 mins to talk to myself about how much he has missed in life and why his development is behind and what I can do to help him get better. He's my heart ❤. Older rescues need time to adjust and learn to trust.
We have a cat we rescued as a kitten over 10 years ago. We had other cats who are very affectionate. We put his food in a special place and just made sure he got food and water. I was sitting in my recliner one day and he just jumped in my lap and started head butting me. I nearly fainted. He was over 2 years old!
Most of the dogs I have had in my life have been shelter dogs. And they have been the best dogs I’ve ever had! It’s as if they realize you’re giving them a second chance. They just need time to adjust. But they are so well worth it! Praying for Wesley to find the best loving home ever! He DESERVES it!🙏❤️

Poor baby. If they couldn't deal with him, they were the family for him. I would love him but I can't afford him. He deserves someone who understands him and is massively patient.
"Can Yiu train him for us?" The whole object is to form a family bond with the dog as you train him, even if a training consultant is there with you. The dog is part of your "pack" and you are the pack's Alpha Dog. You can take him to a doggy training class but make sure you're the one he answers to. ♥️🐶
I'm in ky. I would love him forever if he could get to me. He's so sweet. I have very good references from my vet and two local shelters. I'm so sorry for his sadness. He deserves a good home. Sending him my love
Wesley is such a lovely little sweetheart . The people who came to see him and wanted to adopt him as long as he was trained first aren’t the right owners for him . He needs someone who will love and accept him as he is. He is amazing. Actually Freckles would be a great name for him ❤. I live in Swansea Wales in the UK or I would love to adopt him myself 😔. Hope he finds his forever , loving home very soon. 🙏🏼🤞🏻xx ❤
Y'all are kinda mean in here today. The focus isn't judgement on a potential adopter who opted out, it's this sweet dog who needs the right adopter to build a life with. He deserves a forever home and Rocky is promoting that with great advise about expectations.
This may sound strange to some, but I saw another video a long time ago, possibly from a vet channel, and they had to decompress/rehabilitate dogs, and they played for them a recording of what they called “dog laughter.” And I know it’s a thing because when I heard it I realized I’d mimicked that sound sometimes when playing with my dogs, especially in sort of chase games! The folks in this video said playing recordings of real dog “laughter” really helped to relax them! Odd thing, it’s not all that different from chimp laughter! If you’re unfamiliar, please follow up! And thank you for all you do to help these lovely animal people who are only in these predicaments because of humans! Love to all! ❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️

@diannezalewski3885, how did that work with potty needs? It sounds like you could not take him for walks.
If he is, then he needs lots of exercise before he can even think about minding and he needs to decompress before he can get exercise.
What I said in the first video 🙄🙄🙄
❤
Love what you do I use to rescue and foster.
Wesley is a beautiful boy!! He will find the perfect poving, patient family ❤😊
Then those people know NOTHING ABOUT DOGS! Wesley REJECTED....THEM. Good for him. He knew, they were NOT the people for him.
I bet he will be THE SWEETEST DOG once he feels comfortable. He’s going to make someone VERY happy! ❤🐶
Rocky, I think this poor baby needs to be with you😢 You're so good with these pups❤
I was thinking the same thing. It’s time for Wesley to know that the human won’t leave him again. 💔
@m.h.6499 Exactly. It's so frustrating. I love dogs❤️🐕 but some humans not so much.
Could you imagine 😂😂Rocky you would have so many dogs I think that ever time I see one of your videos 😂your so good with them
@@stephaniebaker2960amen to that❤
You have a smile of pure delight when a scared dog makes a positive move, like taking a treat, or moving towards you, or letting you touch them .
Great to see Bean's "big brother" ❤ Wesley is looking so good. Cant imagine how someone could meet him and not want to take him home with them
Wesley will find a home. He needs a person that will learn dog language.😊 🐶 ❤
@@tess36 Wesley is about one year old? HE IS STILL A PUPPY!
i adopted a dog from the shelter totally dramatized he still is after 5 years but i love him and he is very smart they where going to put him down
Such a brave good boy! My feral pup was jumping in my lap for loving within a week! He just needs time.
Appreciate it!
❤❤❤
Being a foster for years we learned that when these things happen it is often for the best. His family has just not found him yet. ❤
Wesley❤ You are so Special. What a Good Sweet boy💙🐕
He deserves so much better. What a sweet boy. Someone worthy of him will get an opportunity to love him and earn his trust.
It takes time and patience. He will find the right people.
I adopted a
6 month dog that was walking the streets.
I bet he keeps you in your toes, too! Super smart puppy! 💯💕🐾🐾🦴
It is a huge commitment to rescue a dog. I think highly of the people. You don't just rush in and adopt a kid, you shouldn't feel rushed to adopt a dog. Introduce yourself. Make visits. Take all the time you need to know that THIS IS MY DOG. Cuz he's gonna need you, he's gonna depend on you for everything. 🐾 happy rescuing 🐾😊😊😊
Thank you for your kind words. We will find a way to work this out despite all the bashing.
@@magicskygirl we have three dogs and four cats only one shelter rescue and one bottle fed feral kitten but we love them all the same. Some days it's Omgoodness what have I done and other days it's we are one big happy family (Most days)

A kennel they really feel safe in here. I have learned so much on UA-cam. My best to you and your new friend. 🐾
Seems like he’s both treat motivated and affection motivated. Once he comes out of his shell, he’s going to be a great dog!
Rocky thanks for being so pawsitive. I'm sure we all wish Wesley will get his best life soon!
Rejection is protection he didn't belong with them❤ thanks for all you do Rocky taking conscience action and seeing him running and playing with his new family happy and healthy🙏🐶💯♥️
He’s a beautiful dog. He deserves to be loved. ❤️
My rescue dog was so terrified when we took her home. She moved so slowly that I thought there was something wrong with her. After 3 days she must have figured we were keeping her and she started doing zoomies and tossing her toy racoon in the air.
She got the memo!!!
How wonderful!❤❤❤
They just know when it's the right family!❤️❤️❤️ So happy for you and your pup 🐶
That is so beautiful ❤❤❤
THANK GOODNESS those people didn't take a dog they knew they weren't willing to invest in. That pup deserves the very best life 😌🥰
Sometimes jealousy works. My dog was ignoring me until I started watching this! LOL
I feel badly that he didn’t go home but it wasn’t meant to be. - Yet! The right family will be there for him, I’m sure of it! He deserves a family who wants him from the moment they meet him and are willing to be there to support him!
We knew we wanted him from the moment we saw the video, and even more so after we drove 16 hours to meet him. We will be adopting him in July and he will have the most loving home a dog could ask for
@@bluejew6969 I’m sorry you are taking a verbal beating over this. I had a feeling there was more to the story. Sometimes having a meeting is just the first step. Wesley is severely shut down and I think a pause and maybe some meetings may be in order. After all the last thing any of us want is to have Wesley returned or for him to end up in the wrong home. Thank you for coming 16 hours to meet him and I wish you and Wesley the best if you decide to adopt him.
@@jamiem4941 thank you for your kind words, we would love to meet with him more but it’s just not possible given the distance. I will update here if we adopt him ❤️
@@bluejew6969 Whatever you decide to do I wish you luck. Driving 16 hours is not an easy thing to do and I understand you can’t do it multiple times. I appreciate that you took the chance but also appreciate that if you had concerns you didn’t just take him anyway. That would not have been the right thing to do.
Thank you Harriet!
Dogs act different in there than they will in a home.
I have found that with a rescue dog and even w dogs just rehomed that it can take up to a year for them to " sleep w both eyes shut". Trust takes time and patience.
Be gentle with the family who came. They took a risk and shouldn't be criticized if it doesn't work out.
Thank you, we made a 16 hour round trip in one day to meet him and spent 2 hours with him, he’s amazing. We fully intend to adopt this sweet boy in mid July when we are able to come back down and get him
Huh??
Poor baby needs a foster. Some really intelligent dogs don't do well in a shelter environment. They lose hope and shut down easily. From your previous interactions, he's a very sweet boy who just needs a chance to really decompress. Herders also tend to attach to a person and are more focused on that selection. He's handsome.
May this little baby get all the love he deserves .thank you Rocky
I had a very , very timid Jack Russell/ foxie cross, and even though I was very protective of her, nothing I did made her less timid. I loved her for how she was. Timid dogs can be very loving .
Almost two years ago, we welcomed an Envigo survivor into our family. With all of the challenges of dealing with lab test/puppy mill girl has been a steep learning curve. Each little sign of progress is a cause of celebration: first tail wag, first seeking of affection, first independent exploration of the yard. However long it takes, our Daisy has her forever home.
This is so much more nourishing than 99.9% of what's on UA-cam
Rocky, of my 8 companions, 7 are rescues, they understand how lucky they are and love me as much as I love them, my latest is an Aussie and he has turned into a piece of Velcro, whether inside or outside the house, God, I love them so much.
This is a very smart dog, maybe he didn't want to go with the clueless person. I believe he fell in love with you Rocky and then you left. Just seems so sad. We know you will help him find a loving home 😊 he belongs out in the woods and lakes with a mountain man 😊
I still wish Rocky would adopt him.
Wesley’s on to the fact that Rocky visits and then leaves, imo. 💔
It breaks my heart how people abuse or abandon dogs. They are so loyal. Thank you Rocky for what you do for these dogs and giving them love ❤️
People need to be patient with animals. Wesley is a sweet boy. He'll find his people soon.
Thank God for Rocky & people who rescue animals. I aspire to be the same, by saving them.
I can understand the people changing their mind about him. Most people aren't dog behaviorists and have no idea what to do with a dog that is shut down.
I saw Wesley's first sitting video. Poor baby, I hope he gets his forever family soon! He's so sweet 💖🐾🙏
I like seeing a soothing blue color as background.
Did they decide if dogs are color blind or not???
Rocky- It's totally unfair for these traumatized fur babies🥺😪
Especially because once a dog's trust is earned, they will give you all their love and loyalty. Humans don't deserve them.
What the heck is a fur baby

You’re an inspiration to everyone. Thank you
I missed the live. Beautiful boy....you will get the best family... someone better is going to step forward for you sweetheart.❤🙏💜🩵
He DESERVES it!🙏❤️
I wish I lived closer......he just needs someone who can give him time.❤❤❤❤ and let him just be
Poor little guy. Wesley, they just weren't the right people for you. Someone more understanding will be there to adopt you and cherish you for the rest of your days. Hang in there, sweetheart! It will get better.
Poor little guy 🤗
If the person doesn't like how he was acting. It's not meant to be. Someone will love him and give him the love he deserves. He's not ready yet.
I pray and hope he find forever home and love pretty soon
Poor baby. If they couldn't deal with him, they were the family for him. I would love him but I can't afford him. He deserves someone who understands him and is massively patient.
"Can Yiu train him for us?"
The whole object is to form a family bond with the dog as you train him, even if a training consultant is there with you.
The dog is part of your "pack" and you are the pack's Alpha Dog.
You can take him to a doggy training class but make sure you're the one he answers to.
♥️🐶
Who is training these people's kids???
Agreed except for the “alpha” part. That’s been disproven in dogs and training under that framework can be very harmful.
I'm in ky. I would love him forever if he could get to me. He's so sweet.
I have very good references from my vet and two local shelters. I'm so sorry for his sadness. He deserves a good home. Sending him my love
Love you Wesley!
Your perfect person is out there! There are thousands of people who love you already. You’re amazing buddy. 💙
Poor baby. 😔
He obviously didn't like their energy, so he put them off, clever dog
Him's a GOOD boy. Hims just doesn't know it yet. But, hims loves jerky treats. Attaboy Wesley! Get some !
