Nice wee video, cheers for the info,it was like stepping back in time when you were explaining what the masks/respirators are used for,as I did b.a training years ago on a refinery and we had to be clean shaven so we could get a proper seal around your face like you mentioned,the respiratory was absolutely stinking of rubber that you could taste it,I've got a few different masks,just haven't got a full face respiratory,most of the ones I use are for dust for sanding,and others I use are for paint and glue.
In my own working life I have used rescue sets, and escape sets in various sites and applications agree totlay. The reason I was not so much trying to put people off high end masks is for the threat environment, unless you tick the boxes with the rest of the required kit ie suit,boots gloves, buddy system checking and cleaning etc then it's benefit is diminished imo
Nice, well explained video 👍🏼 I got the facial hair issue so I used the "covid" mask with a snood over it to hold it tighter against the face, tried it with the N95 type mask and it just looks silly, still effective at sealing it to face, but silly 🙂 Same reason that I didn't go down the half or full face mask route, and I just can't afford them and the supply of filters that you would need, plus I have no NBC clothing to go with them nor a decontamination system so they would become a one time use item, as I'm unable to clean them. Someone else has mentioned smoke, I live in a block of flats and fire / smoke is one of my concerns, so I have a couple of smoke hoods in their boxes (with a knife and a torch) next to the front door. They are tinfoil helmets that fit over the head and secure around the neck. A built in visor / viewing panel lets you see and it has a built in filter that is so said good for 30 minutes against smoke - more than enough time to me a clamber down the stairs). They are vac sealed so don't know how effective they are and are only a one use item 😞
Having even a cloth is better than nothing. As I was listening, I was thinking about smoke! A house fire, having one by your bed, or in the car if there is a zombie apocalyptic element 😂 and tires are ablaze. Or more seriously, a forest fire. What would you recommend for smoke? Cheers 🇬🇧
A smoke alarm, seriously. PPE in all aspects is the last resort, with regard to smoke and fire( at home) best to have a good alarm , and ensure everyone knows what to do in the event of fire. When seconds count its probably not realistic trying to put on a mask, when half asleep at night time when out of practice etc. Having done it in smoke filled rooms etc it really gets the heart going lol. Either of the last two I reviewed would work to an extent and provide some protection from stinging smoke in eyes etc too. But really it's best to do fire prevention first, combustible in the home etc and smoke alarms ,appreciate the response. Sp73
Correct I like this. I use the half masks everyday with my work they are cracking. As you have mentioned full nuclear no mask or suit is going to really do anything simply because you've got to take the dam thing off expose your tin food to contaminated air and try and eat it holding your breath 😆 not too mention trying to find a a building that is impervious to nuclear/chemical materials.....the half masks are one for me and I have a beard with the chemicals I use touch wood am still walking....side note on the army beard thing they have limited to how big it can be although not perfect it is mainly to drive more people to the army

I have disposable overalls mate,cheaper just lacks the charcoal.
