    VERY IMPORTANT, read this before you watch!
    I get the "limp wrist" comment nearly daily in one video or another with this pistol, but from people who haven't a clue what they are talking about, so I urge you not to jump to conclusions. Most of the issue with malfunctions is the feed ramp, the Lone Wolf AlphaWolf CONVERSION barrel I use has a very thin feed ramp, not wide and loose chamber like a stock Glock feed ramp/chamber. Also, in this video I was not using a 10mm extractor in the conversion, so that didn't help. If you still do not believe me, I did a study of all of the hollow point ammo tests I did with this Glock 41 pistol in both the stock and the conversion setup. Why this is important is because I tested SEVERAL .45 ACP+P rounds that were well over the typical energy level of 10mm, as well as at or above typical 10mm bullet weight, and I never once had a jam in those rounds. Here is the study of just the Glock 41 portion:
    Glock 41 (.45 ACP)
    Shots Fired: 93
    Malfunctions: 1
    Malfunction Rate: 1.1%
    Glock 41 (10mm Conversion)
    Shots Fired: 102
    Malfunctions: 23
    Malfunction Rate: 22.5%

    I want to make mention of something here because I really don't want 200 of the same comment. I test ammunition and I am not a "gun channel" per se, so the fact that my Glock pistol jams a lot should not be taken with too much consideration. My Glock 41 .45 ACP has a conversion 10mm barrel/22 lb recoil spring and stock extractor, so it's not setup to run smoothly, but this is something most people understand when it comes to conversions. The supported chamber alone VS a stock barrel can also cause issues. So please, pay attention to the ammunition performance once it leaves the muzzle and don't tell me my Glock sucks, again and again, and again! Thank you.

      Maybe the feed ramp on the barrel conversion barrel may need to be deburred, and polished out some may help feeding issues. I know has on some my conversion barrels as they are made like Glock perfection finish, but close enough.

    Thanks so much for this video. For people in California, with lots of ammo restrictions already, well 10mm is one of the few rounds I could find last week in my local gun store. This video will definitely help people out here and I agree that the Federal 10mm would be great in a Glock 29. It does not have to be a screaming round to get the job done, and that's the beauty of a 10mm. From mild to wild in the same cartridge and gun. Thanks again, you've definitely helped me out here.

    The 357 HS has always been a good round, but it is intended for hunting more so than self defense. The 10mm HS did quite well at modest velocity with less recoil than normal 10mm. That certainly has application. Better SD than a 185 gr 45 ACP, and just slightly faster. Win- win.

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  4 роки тому +1

      With a lot of rounds the flexibility is low so they become bracketed in a category of what they are good for ie 9mm/.45 acp/.38 Special good defensive rounds. With .357 Mag and 10mm they can be great for that, but they have to be tested to be sure they are not too hot. A great example might be Hornady Critical Duty in .357 Mag, gives about an even 500 ft lbs energy in a 4" barrel and recoils about the same as a 9mm in a G19, so great defensive round. On the flip side, this Hydrashok in a 2" snub is also close to 500 ft lbs with a heavier bullet, a real wrist snapper and not good in that setup.

    I know something that may help your Glock conversion to work better.
    I just bought a 1911 10mm (technically put on layaway). I looked a video, where a guy reviewed his 10mm Kimber 1911, and he had a bad time with it, so he replaced the stock 18 pound spring to a higher strength (22-24). Although this helped quite a bit, he still had issues, so he also replaced his stock magazine with a Wilson Combat magazine. Apparently, those two things increased the performance of his weapon considerably. I've also heard the shape of the cartridge will cause issues. A rounder bullet apparently feeds more reliably, especially in weapons still not broken in.
    Hope this helps.

    The best advice is keep the Glock stock. The Winchester Silvertip is a very good self defense round. The Norma 170 JHP was the original load and is devastating. The original 10mm brought 41. Magnum performance. You need Underwood or Buffalo Boar for real 10mm performance.

Or would you prefer something a bit more tidy, say, a King Cobra, S&W Carry Comp, or Kimber K6S (staying with 6-chamber guns) being a bit more tolerable, in a 26-29oz unloaded weight range? Is a 4" barrel actually feasible for someone who's mostly urban and office dwelling? I prefer 3" barrels as a nice compromise adding some nice velocity above snubs, from what I see on the charts.

      4" can be used but you really need to either go inside the waistband or get a high rise belt holster. 3" is lighter would carry easier but a heavy gun can be made feel lighter with the right setup. @@GunSam give the Graco brass catchers a try. They are a bit funky, but they make one model that clamps onto the accessory rail of your Glock, and another that comes fitted to the outside of a glove for autoloaders without a rail. There is a review on UA-cam somewhere of it if you want to see it in action, though I'm sure you could rig something up on your own with a coat hanger and some netting. I have both the glove and the clamp on model, the clamp on model does make the gun a bit hinky to shoot (alters the balance) and while it does not obscure the sights you don't get the best view of the right side of the gun. I generally come home with all my brass save a very few that get launched into the shooting area of the public indoor range I shoot at. Out of fifty I might lose one or two. The glove version is less cool but there is nothing hanging off the end of your gun.

    Have you ever tried a 7.62x25 mm. I have a story about one I used to own.
    My brother-in-law bought it off my he's a former Marine and a bit of a know-it-all he had it in a shoulder holster and violated all the safety rules
    1) the holster was too big for the gun
    2) I'll just combine the rest, he had a round in the chamber, hammer chocked, and the safety off
    The gun fell out of the holster onto the floor the round went through his ankle, across the room and out through the wall and was never found. Luckily nobody else was injured

      I have not tried it as the ammo variety is limited. The pistols are pretty cheap to buy though.

    I wonder, because of the lower velocity of the 10mm, if running it out of a shorter gun would cause expansion issues. That is so often the case in other calibers, I would guess it would be the same here. Thoughts???

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  4 роки тому +1

      i'm not 100% sure. People often quote velocity as why we see expansion, but I have always said this isn't quite true. In reality it's energy, and it's also dependent on hollow cavity size. An example would be that I get all sorts of hollow point expansion with 230 gr .45 ACP despite often getting it at numbers like 800 FPS. Take that same bullet design and put it in a 125 gr .38 Special at 800 FPS and it will not expand. The difference is that the .45 ACP has double the energy, and the larger hollow cavity helps too. Now in general, a Hydrashok bullet has a pretty hard jacket and the .45 ACP Hydrashok does not expand well even at 230 gr/900 FPS/414 ft lbs, so this would suggest that the 10mm Hydrashok would get no expansion from a short barrel, but it's not exactly velocity related to a point.

      @@GunSam true, I have seen that in tests as well. .38 especially. I've got Remington golden sabre in .38 spl +p that seems to expand well from a short barrel. That's what I'm going to carry in my s&w 642. Have you ever done a test on that load?

    While I love the Jug or Not... may I make a suggestion when testing 10 MM....In today's world the State of Alaska seems to have moved from the 44 mag to carrying Glock 20 in 10mm auto.. Would it be difficult to simulate the hide of a Grizzly Bear and his muscle mass and find what 10mm factory ammo works best? I guess the theory is bad shot placement and need for capacity vs the power of 6 rounds of 44 mag.

      I plan something like that in about a month. I am picking up a .44 Mag revolver and plan a hard cast test with maybe extra bologna, a 2x4 and some carpet! You can figure it out lol

      No. I used to see it online a couple years ago but I think it's discontinued. The main reason I never tried it is because I believe it was only in 9mm, .40 and .45 so I wasn't interested.

    OMG! Dude, I appreciate these videos, truly, but you GOTTA use the 130 grain Hydra Shoks! The 158 grain loads are NOT the way to go! They do not do the .357 Magnum justice!

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  4 роки тому

      I don't know about that. I did test the 130 gr and the 158 gr in snubs and in that short barrel I had 452 ft lbs for the 130 gr and 494 ft lbs for the 158 gr. So going into 4" barrels the energy would be about the same.

      Yeah this 10mm is a little odd for Federal, they also load their .38 Special HST oddly low, same with the low recoil Hydrashok. But most of their ammo is pretty decent and powerful, and all of it is close to rated velocity.

      To be fair I think there are excuses. I think it's mainly the spring is too much for light rounds plus a .45 extractor with a smaller rim.

      There's a lot of numbers and statistics to prove that the .357 Mag is very effective to stop a human threat, as where those statistics are not really there for the 10mm, but there are statistics on .40 S&W so i'd say both would work near as well as each other.

    Call me when you test/compare a REAL 10mm against run-of-the-mill .357; not the CYA FBI-lite loadings. Try something equivalent to the original Norma (170gr/1450fps, 200gr/1200, IIRC Norma box printing)
