My grandfather (also Anastasios Sarikas) from Old Focia on the Anatolian coast not far from Izmir, engaged in many a fight with other Greeks of the mainland and, consequently, was taken to court several times for bashing quite a few empty heads. My grandfather's family escaped to Greece in the late summer of 1914 because of the attacks from the Chetes (irregular Turkish forces). My father was then a six-month-old baby. In 2004, I went back to Old Focia and walked around while hearing the voices of my imaginary ghosts. The local people were very kind to me. It brought me to tears. What else can I say?

You are missing the big picture. Despite what the anatolian Greeks were called by idiots the Greek state took, given the circumstances, great care of them. Learn first what happened to the Greek muslims that went to Turkey, put it in perspective, and then complain.
Dimi Dimi In regards to the subject... the civilian population was hostile to the Anatolian Greeks. They blamed them for the current crisis Greece found herself in. No criticism was given to the Greek government and their handling of the refugee crisis. I believe you’re referring to post 1922 being the 1923 population exchange which I do not cover it in the video.
Dimi Dimi You’re forgetting that domestically Venizelos neglected his electorate and the conditions in mainland Greece were in a horrible state. Venizelos was strong in foreign policy but extremely weak in domestic policy hence the resentment of the mainland Greeks versus the Anatolian Greeks.

Even if resentment did not exist they will had to invent it. Find out about what happened to the muslim Greeks so called Turks that went to Turkey and trust me you will be grateful for the treatment of the Anatolian Greeks by the mainland ones.

@ Yes, but Karamanlıs are a special case.. They are thought to be the remnants of Cumans and/or Pechenegs.. If true, they are a direct descendant of turkish tribes.
@ The problem is not that simple. Because nobody knows how the real turks looked like before they came to Anatolia, or if there is something we can call "real turks". Three things: 1) Turks had already mixed up a lot with sogdians, schytians, tocharians etc when they moved into central asia, then they mixed still further when they moved into iran. So they were already a mixture when they arrived into anatolia.. 2) Central Asian people hadn't have a lot of mongoloid characteristic before the arrival of mongols.. Mongoloid characteristics in central asia is a "new" phenomenon.. 3) Nobody knows what the very original first turks looked like.. For a long time it was thought that they were the relatives of mongols, based on linguistic evidence. But today it is proven that turkish and mongolian are two completely separate languages wich acquired some superficial similarity due to a long period of contact. But the core of two languages are completely diffrent..
@ Old paintings? I'm not aware of any paintings before the year 1000 which specifically depict turks... Schytians, sakas, iranians and sogdians are not mongoloid peoples, they are indo-europeans.. When turks had arrived in anatolia, they are already very heavily mixed with them.. So I do not think that they had a mongoloid appearance.

@ That is the historical rhetoric of Greek Nationalism. Quite similarly Turkish Nationalists argue that a lot of Greeks living in Greece are Christianized Turks. So it is designed to fit into a modern nationalistic narrative. I have Albanian, Circassian and Georgian ancestors but I really dont care what my DNA says. Although not a nationalist, I am Turkish at heart.

Hello sir just to let you know there were two types of 1874 Gras rifles. 1. Greek contract made by Steyr Austria. It was chambered in black powder 11x59mm 2. A modified Gras 1874 rifle re-barrelled for the 8mm smokeless Lebel cartridge They called that one the M14 Gras. They supplied these to the Greeks in World War I

I found an 8mm lebel cartridge in Seyitgazi / Eskişehir , where the Greek 14th regiment was accommodated. then I learned that they used this ammunition with m14 gras and chauchat rifles. Were there any differences in the 8mm lebel cartridge used by these two rifles? Can we find out exactly in which rifle this cartridge is used? According to my research, the cartridge was produced in 1901 in Paris.

This was chambered with the 8 mm Lebel cartridge. French supplied weapons the Greeks had were: M14 Gras ( Second line troops) 1886/93 Lebel ( grenade launchers) 1907/15 Berthier ( Front line soldiers) 1892 Berthier carbine ( artillery soldiers) Mle 15 Chauchat (light MG) Mle 1907 at Étienne heavy MG Mle 1909 hotchkiss light MG All of these French weapons use the same 8 mm cartridge

I think it had to do with how the how he saw the "Young Turk movement" Turkey for the Turks" and how that movement treated the Greek minorities and the actions of the Muslim Balkan refugees towards the Rums after returning to Anatolia.... He was always a loyal ottoman subject who never raised any arms against the Ottoman Government , however he could never be a "Turkish Nationalist" due to the fact that the eithnic Turks would never accept him as "Turkish" due to his religion but Instead as "RUM"

The suffix -oglu was given to most greeks living under ottoman rule to make their surnames "more" Turkish. So, been Greek and Cristian in Cappadocia is not a coincidence.
The main issue is the Greek and Armenian community that have lived in these lands for centuries and have not adopted these lands as their homeland. He joined the enemy ranks and declared war on the land where he was full and born. According to Armenians and Greeks, there is no traitor. For us, "we officially call it betrayal." Because we have embraced you as the children of this land for centuries. Even Greeks with whom you joined the war on the same side have noticed this. They called you their Christian Turks, yoghurt eaters.

Hello again, It’s all relative to the “perception” you have , side your on and how far back you would like to go through history sir. ;-) The Ottoman sultan took up arms against the nationalists as well.... We could say that the Greeks the Armenians , and some of the Kurds fought against the nationalists to achieve their own version or notion of “independence” after 400 -500 years of Ottoman “ occupation” Unfortunately fighting on the side of the nationalists with the primary essence of the movement stating that turkey for the Turks did not include the Christian minorities in it. They felt it threatened their very survival and existence....... This was the perception amongst minorities in the empire....They believed they themselves were occupied since 1453... Ironically this was the same perception that the Turks had against the Greeks during the Greek occupation from 1919 to 1922. Thank you kindly 👍

@@esrefozcelik7286 I think that everyone that knows history knows that as many slavs, anatolians, albanias ect were hellenised but this did not happen by saying to these people that they will pay less tax if the become "Greeks" or by the Greeks grabbing non Greek children make then christian and use them to eliminate their christian brothers. Hence comparing how the byzantines became "turks" with the way that slavs became "Greeks" is at least unfortunate.

@ Yes, but Karamanlıs are a special case.. They are thought to be the remnants of Cumans and/or Pechenegs.. If true, they are a direct descendant of turkish tribes.
@ The problem is not that simple. Because nobody knows how the real turks looked like before they came to Anatolia, or if there is something we can call "real turks". Three things:
1) Turks had already mixed up a lot with sogdians, schytians, tocharians etc when they moved into central asia, then they mixed still further when they moved into iran. So they were already a mixture when they arrived into anatolia..
2) Central Asian people hadn't have a lot of mongoloid characteristic before the arrival of mongols.. Mongoloid characteristics in central asia is a "new" phenomenon..
3) Nobody knows what the very original first turks looked like.. For a long time it was thought that they were the relatives of mongols, based on linguistic evidence. But today it is proven that turkish and mongolian are two completely separate languages wich acquired some superficial similarity due to a long period of contact. But the core of two languages are completely diffrent..
@ Old paintings? I'm not aware of any paintings before the year 1000 which specifically depict turks...
Schytians, sakas, iranians and sogdians are not mongoloid peoples, they are indo-europeans.. When turks had arrived in anatolia, they are already very heavily mixed with them.. So I do not think that they had a mongoloid appearance.

Aradan yıllar geçip dedemizi ziyarete geldiğinde eski mahallesine gidip buradan babam geçti diye yeri öptüğünü, bu kapıdan anam geçti diye kapı koluna sarılıp ağladığını anlatırdı.
Kanada gibi bir yerde doğup büyümese ona Yunanistanda sadece Türk düşmanlığını öğreteceklerdi, böyle biri olmayacaktı yani. Yunanlarla konuşursanız göreceksiniz bu konulara hiç bizim gibi bakmıyorlar, 2500 yıl önce anadoluya geldiğimiz halde siz işgalci moğolsunuz sizi atıcaz falan diyorlar yada onlara öyle öğretiliyor hiçbir saygıları yok. Anadoluda Rumların emperyalistlerin kışkırtması ile müslüman Türklere karşı savaşması çok üzücü bence, Kürtler de bizden farklı ama aynı toprağın insanıyız. Rumlar da Osmanlı yahudileri de öyle idi ama Rumlarla bizi birbirimize karşı savaştırdılar ve bunu çok uzun yıllar boyunca hazırladılar (avrupa devletleri ve ruslar Osmanlı ile her anlaşmalarında yunanistanın topraklarını büyüttüler) ve yoktan bir kukla millet yarattılar (hiç savaş kazanmamış olmasına rağmen). Bizim açımızdan çok üzücü olması gereken bir durum, oradaki tüm Türkler evini bırakmak zorunda kaldılar, rumlara da aynı şey oldu. Oraya göçen rumlar dahil hala Türk karşıtlığı ve ırkçılıkla büyüyorlar ve avrupa yine (şimdi AB) 100 yıl önceki gibi onları kullanarak topraklarımızı istiyor (bu sefer denizlerimizi)
Gerçekten öyle yunan haber sayfasına bakiyorum sürekli Türkiyeyi kötüleyen haber yapiyorlar. Yorumlarda tartışınca kendileri hiçbir şey yapmamış gibi siz şunu şunu yaptınız insanlar öldü diyorlar. Ayni ermeniler gibi 500binden fazla Türk öldürüp sürüldükten sonra tek bir toplu mezar olmamasına rağmen soykırım yaptınız diyor onlarda.

Kanal harika. Videolar harika. Bildiğimizi sandığımız olayları farklı bakış açılarından dinliyoruz. Daha önce Stratis Dukas isimli yazarın "Bir Esirin Anıları" isimli öykü kitabını okumuştum. Biz Türklerin büyük taarruzu kazanmamızın ardından, anadoludan kaçmaya çalışan bir Rumun başından geçenleri anlatan kısa bir öyküydü. (70-80 sayfa civarında) Orada da olayları farklı açılardan görmenin değerini anlamıştım. Keşke geçmişte yşanan savaşlar hiç yaşanmasaydı. Ancak bazı hayalperestlerin kışkırtmaları sonucu anadolunun yüzlerce yıllık kardeş toplulukları birbirlerine düşman oldular. Bunun sonucunda tamamen haklı bir varoluş mücadelesi veren atalarımız şükür ki bağımsızlık mücadelelerini kazandılar ve bize yeni bir vatan, yeni amaçlar ve yeni bir yaşam enerjisi hediye ettiler. Bu sebeple atalarımıza, en başta Mustafa Kemale ne kadar minnettar olsak azdır. Türlü işkenceler gören dedelerimiz ve ninelerimize üzülsek de bir yandan da oyuna getirilmiş rum vs. anadolu halkına da üzülüyoruz. Keşke tüm bunlar hiç yaşanmasaydı...

@ That is the historical rhetoric of Greek Nationalism. Quite similarly Turkish Nationalists argue that a lot of Greeks living in Greece are Christianized Turks. So it is designed to fit into a modern nationalistic narrative. I have Albanian, Circassian and Georgian ancestors but I really dont care what my DNA says. Although not a nationalist, I am Turkish at heart.

Rum dediklerimizin çogu 1071 den cok önceleri anadoluya yerleşen, belki de hep orada olan Türklerdi. Sırf dinlerinden dolayı Osmanlıdan beri onları Yunan sınıfına koyduk. Halbuki bizim insanlarımızdı. Onları kaybetmemeliydik.

Hello sir just to let you know there were two types of 1874 Gras rifles.
1. Greek contract made by Steyr Austria. It was chambered in black powder 11x59mm
2. A modified Gras 1874 rifle re-barrelled for the 8mm smokeless Lebel cartridge They called that one the M14 Gras. They supplied these to the Greeks in World War I

I found an 8mm lebel cartridge in Seyitgazi / Eskişehir , where the Greek 14th regiment was accommodated. then I learned that they used this ammunition with m14 gras and chauchat rifles. Were there any differences in the 8mm lebel cartridge used by these two rifles? Can we find out exactly in which rifle this cartridge is used? According to my research, the cartridge was produced in 1901 in Paris.
Mustafa Özkan Hello again sir I can tell you without a doubt one of the most widely and most frequently used rifles of the Greek Army after the Mannlicher 1903 was the French Berthier 1907/15.
This was chambered with the 8 mm Lebel cartridge.
French supplied weapons the Greeks had were:
M14 Gras ( Second line troops)
1886/93 Lebel ( grenade launchers)
1907/15 Berthier ( Front line soldiers)
1892 Berthier carbine ( artillery soldiers)
Mle 15 Chauchat (light MG)
Mle 1907 at Étienne heavy MG
Mle 1909 hotchkiss light MG
All of these French weapons use the same 8 mm cartridge

I think it had to do with how the how he saw the "Young Turk movement" Turkey for the Turks" and how that movement treated the Greek minorities and the actions of the Muslim Balkan refugees towards the Rums after returning to Anatolia.... He was always a loyal ottoman subject who never raised any arms against the Ottoman Government , however he could never be a "Turkish Nationalist" due to the fact that the eithnic Turks would never accept him as "Turkish" due to his religion but Instead as "RUM"

Greek settlements were numerous and widespread throughout most of today’s Turkey. The provinces of Cappadocia and Lycaonia had a large number of Greek settlements and sizeable populations in urban centres such as Kayseri, Nigde, and Konya. According to 1897 estimations, the sanjak of Konya had a total Greek population of 68.101 and according to Ottoman population statistics of 1914, the sanjak of Niğde had a total Greek population of 58.312 and the sanjak of Kayseri had a total of 26.590. The suffix -oglu was given to most greeks living under ottoman rule to make their surnames "more" Turkish. So, been Greek and Cristian in Cappadocia is not a coincidence.

The grandchildren of those who started a civil war and burned my grandfathers in the barns are still playing games over us now. Hello again, It’s all relative to the “perception” you have , side your on and how far back you would like to go through history sir. ;-) The Ottoman sultan took up arms against the nationalists as well.... We could say that the Greeks the Armenians , and some of the Kurds fought against the nationalists to achieve their own version or notion of “independence” after 400 -500 years of Ottoman “ occupation”
Unfortunately fighting on the side of the nationalists with the primary essence of the movement stating that turkey for the Turks did not include the Christian minorities in it. They felt it threatened their very survival and existence.......
This was the perception amongst minorities in the empire....They believed they themselves were occupied since 1453...
Ironically this was the same perception that the Turks had against the Greeks during the Greek occupation from 1919 to 1922.

The truth of the matter is people are a product of their environment, and People adopt a culture of where they are born and live however the evils of nationalism along with Xenophobia and clan mentality are what fuel these type of feelings and unfortunate outcomes.....

@@esrefozcelik7286 I think that everyone that knows history knows that as many slavs, anatolians, albanias ect were hellenised but this did not happen by saying to these people that they will pay less tax if the become "Greeks" or by the Greeks grabbing non Greek children make then christian and use them to eliminate their christian brothers. Hence comparing how the byzantines became "turks" with the way that slavs became "Greeks" is at least unfortunate.
