I've had a Rift S since 2019 and it was a relatively good experience overall. I did suffer from the usual issues, such as:
    - headset/controller losing tracking
    - headset not getting enough power
    - microphone loses quality and becomes "robotic"
    - very picky about which USB port it is plugged into
I eventually invested in an Antlion ModMic Wireless and a powered USB 3.0 hub from Sabrent. I used the motherboard's USB 3.0 header (front USB ports) as the rear USB ports seem problematic.
Turning off the headset after use is recommended as the battery on the controllers will still drain even in sleep mode. Very easy to turn on/off the headset via USB hub button.
Most tracking issues I had were either room lighting or battery related. I discovered by repositioning some of the lights in my room helped, while using high quality rechargable batteries allow for easy recharging after use. I did notice that the headset will lose tracking when the controller batteries get about 2/3 or sometimes 1/2 depleted.
I heard a few mixed accounts of Vive trackers not playing nicely with the Rift S regarding full body tracking, so it's something to keep in mind.
The Rift S is still a decent headset if you're willing to deal with its inherent flaws and issues. There are better options out there in 2023, but their starting prices are much higher.

I love my Rift S. Was using my Quest 2 for a couple years and decided to break out my Rift S recently after not using it all this time. I was surprised at how much better it looked visually for PCVR than the Q2 despite lower resolution. Everything is crisper and more vibrant and I'm guessing it's because Rift S uses a display port connection with no compression. It's also way more comfortable and easy to get going. I literally just put it on my head and it's automated from there. Long story short, I've switched back to my old Rift S as my primary headset. It's a great little VR unit.

I've own for 4 years yet it still hasn't broke down, it's also good that it doesen't need any charging just boot up the computer and it's running. I can say that the only downside Is that it lacks support with newly released games. It's up to you but they're so many better options with other vr headsets plus it's quiet hard to get your hands on one.

We have bought two Rift S headsets and gifted one to family. Sadly, the cable is vulnerable to damage as folks learning to use VR will step on it and yank it hard causing a breakage. These cables are not available new and the used ones on Ebay are expensive. That left our gifted on dead which we replace with a Quest 2. However, the second Rift S is still in use and while we are also using a Quest 2 in Virtual Desktop, the Rift S still gets regular use. I can say that the Rift S will run Oculus games flawlessly but the Q2 can mess up. So sometimes, we play a game in the Q2 only to switch to the Rift S to finish a game. Lone Echo II comes to mind as one of these. I do think the RIft S is still a superb VR experience and of course, playing Half Life Alyx on it is still fantastic.

I've had my Rift S for years. Recently upgraded to an RX 7800xt and now after 30 minutes or so of play I get horrible double vision. Reported by other RX 7000 users. Meta will not fix this. These issues will only get worse.

I used the Rift S for 2 years, after a couple months I had to get a new one.

I never had a Rift S but I had a CV1 for many years, a GO for the standalone browser *wink*, then I finally got a Quest 2 and sold everything else. They all have their pros and cons. I enjoy the Quest 2 the most mainly because I don't need to be tethered all the time. I can use Air-link or cable for PCVR or simply use it standalone. The Rift S is still a solid budget option for someone that only wants/needs PCVR or who wants to try VR for the first time (and they have a decent gamer PC). Saying that the Quest 2 is inferior at doing something that wasn't especially designed to do is not very smart from your part. But wait, can you even use your Rift S without plug it in to your PC?....
Yeah a Jeep Wrangler has better traction in difficult terrain compared to a Lamborghini Gallardo, even when the first costs way less in comparison. Both have many things in common tho... pros and cons at doing the same thing as well.

Rift s is kinda mid though
No ipd adjustment, 80hz compared to majority of headsets having 90hz at minimum now, the infamous robotic mic,the infamous broken rift s/quest1 controller rings, the broken wires. Plus quest 2 is being sold for extremely cheap on used market now so I don’t see how getting rift s is better over quest 2 imo

I think rift s is still good budget vr but there are better options. Recently i bought a second hand HP reverb g1 for 140$ in good condition. The quality is great and the displays are so crisp and better than even valve index. Many ppl said in the past that WMR tracking sucks but with all the software updates to it i can say that it is as good as rift s/oculus quest 2 tracking or slightly better. Controllers are alright still better than htc vive controllers. Well for the image quality that u get with the reverb i can say that it would be a better option than a rift s

i understand this video is like a year old, but..
should i buy a rift s to replace my quest 1?..
my headset practically doesn't turn on without a few restarts anymore, thanks to meta completely destroying it on the software end. i use it only for pcvr now. i just want to know: where do i go from the quest 1?.. psvr2 is looking to be good, but not for the price. and i dont like being tied to a battery OR having to link some other account.

i would not buy the rift s heres why
Mic: its good but it turns into a robot for like 30 sec then its normal but keeps happening!!
Audio: some times it sounds glitchy js like the mic but it stays till you reset it!
    black screen/crashing happends alot
the headset not getting enough power
it was good for a few months but now its kinda boring i play for 10-20 min and it crashes
im buying a valve or quest 3
so what i think a good buget vr is the quest 1 you can buy 1 used for 100-150$ and if you have a pc use a link cable!

The more I use the Rift S the more I try to imagine how testers of this thing didn't notice HUGE problem within.
You NEED to buy a secondary microphone, (and a really really long cable / wireless) since the built in microphone is trasnforming your voice into a robot from time to time, and can simply refuse to work until a unplug replug.
You may also experience when you use a old one, that sometime all the camera's to track your position decide to randomly not respond (a software issue I think)
The controllers are not made for every hand's, I think its more of a personnal problem, but the controllers don't fit my hands.
Its highly common to wait 30 seconds or more for the headset to display something after you taken it off.
But even though there's those problem, even though I've personally experience more tweaking than gaming hitself, the fact that you can get one for a very affordable price,
