This is more prevalent than I thought! I experienced 90% of the exact scenario. Even contacted PayPal - couldn’t figure the disconnect. Fortunately I never sent the money, and even cancelled the order. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. Dillon is spot on - F&F is like giving money to a stranger. Don’t do it!

Sorry this happened to you, and as a Ukrainian, when I saw the screenshot I just laughed. I can 100% assure you no ukrainian ever has been named Beatrice, there's no way. Also PayPal wasn't even working fully in Ukraine until this April I guess, so it's highly unlikely any real seller would be happy to use it. It's slightly irritating that these scammers use my country name though

@@hellion9547 well, these names you mentioned are way more common here. It’s quite uncommon for a “Beatrice” to settle in Ukraine, let alone sell records, she has to be a unicorn of sorts. I've always hated vinyl records, even when I was a kid, that is why I tried to make a tape recorder in the fourth grade, I didn't succeed obviously, but at least I tried! The ticks, and pops, plus surface noise, and the eccentricity of vinyl records drove me (when I had enough money), to purchase a used teak A1500U, reel-to-reel tape recorder, but I could easily still hear the difference between "source and tape", the dreaded tape hiss. In 1978 as an engineering consultant for the "Great American Sound Co., I traveled to Japan to visit GAS dealers and the Tokyo Electronics Show. In the Sony booth at that show, I saw for the first time, a model PCM-1, 12-bit digital processor playing music from the video track displaying thousands of black and white, undulating bits on the monitor, from the same SL-8200 Beta max VCR I had at home, I had to own one of these! In 1983 I attended an AES meeting featuring Marshall Buck who was presenting his new "coaxial two-way" loudspeaker he had designed for Cerwin-Vega! In his demonstration he was utilizing a "vocal-only" recording of a female singer that sounded fantastic with an incredible "dynamic range" and no background hiss. Immediately after Marshall's demonstration, I walked up and asked him what equipment was playing back his recording of this singer? He pointed to this diminutive silver box, and said I'm using a Sony PCM-F1, 16-bit Digital Audio Processor and a VCR. I said how much for the PCM-F1. He said $1,500.00, and I said sold! I built a portable recording rig that included the PCM-F1 and other custom-made equipment that I utilized for various musical performance recordings made on location and I won an Emmy for an outdoor performance of the opera Faust! I've been a digital advocate ever since, if you wish to learn more about my current endeavors, search UA-cam with the following: "JBL SYNTHESIS CREATOR", and ALSO: "HOWTOHOMELIFE". If you have questions, feel-free to call me @ 818-314-7275 Pacific time. David Riddle

It’s kind of sickening the way scammers would infiltrate a small (in the grand scheme of things) community like the VC and prey on people in this way. For most it is a hobby, and for most record dealers it’s a hobby and a vocation, so what gets into people’s heads to target something like this? Human nature, eh. I despair sometimes!

Ok. I am sick of sellers that post a LP for sale at a higher grade then what it is, just to make a sale. This is how they do this..... if it is a LP that there is several sellers posting at NM or VG+, they post theirs at a lower price. You think it is a better deal, they send it but you get a VG or even less. You let them know so they come back with a partial refund, that makes it a more correct price. But if you take it, the just sold you a LP you did not order and screwed the rest of the sellers out of a legit deal. They just sold you a LP that otherwise would just sit in their inventory........ If you did not figure it out, you leave a good feedback thinking that it was all in the up & up....... Not all sellers are that way, but I know this goes on and I have almost completely stopped buying on Discogs because of the BS like this......

This is off subject but it looks like you collect similar records as I. I went to Portland, Oregon for about a week at the end of May mostly there for a family purpose. My thought was that Portland would be great place to find psych and prog albums. Portland certainly has a ton of record stores. I probably went to close to 10 stores plus a few in neighboring communities and found one decent prog record which was not really something on my list. All of the stores had a ton and great variety of new pressings but the used inventory was pretty pedestrian. I see more high end record in the few stores we have in Tucson. A disappointment at best. Watch out for Steve Hoffman forums. It’s a bunch of old goats who discriminate against others for sharing their opinions on record sound quality. I got banned for posting this:
This seems kind of outlandish and discriminatory to me. My gear isn’t the best, and I’m not planning on listing it to avoid any potential ridicule. Aside from that, it’s kind of my own business.
I don’t think sharing your opinion is the same as scamming someone, which is what we’re treating it like here. If we’re saying that someone can intuit someone else’s opinion by reviewing their gear, then they should be held to the same standard - if someone’s gear is not listed, think twice before buying based on that opinion. Duh?

I used to rely on "more images" on Discogs, but no matter what version of a particular LP I was looking at, it had the same photos in "more images". On discogs that should not happen, always raise a comment on the edit release page to ask to verify, though bear in mind some discs will have same details where there is a SLEEVE variation - read the record notes. Plenty of world wide sellers will sell to the US, just bear in mind it takes 15days to three months to arrive and will cost min USD18 probably , more likely USD40 for one LP, but its not a lot extra for two or three LPs in one bundle - depending on bundle value. I have had discs arrive within a week or so, others seem to want to go for a swim through the great lakes before arriving.

The cost of postage to Canada has been outrageous for a decade.

There is an international price fixing group called the Universal Postal Union and it sets the price that postal companies have to compensate each other for 'last mile' delivery (physical delivery to your door), which is the most expensive part.
The price for at least the last couple decades has been absurdly low for shipping into the US which gives foreign companies an advantage over domestic companies as the usps (and others) loses money on every international delivery it completes and needs to make up those losses by raising prices on domestic shipping which the UPU doesn't control. Which is why shipping cost more from New York City to Boston than Beijing to Boston.
During covid the cost of getting the goods to the 'last mile' shipping company has gone up significantly due to the supply chain being overloaded as shipping ports are at capacity and trucking labor and gas prices have raised considerably.

I have bought records through Discogs for years from a few different countries and never had a problem. I check the buyer’s feedback and if they have a PayPal account, PayPal is the only way I will pay, any hint of trouble with the payment I can it, no matter how badly I want the record. I may have been lucky, you just have to be careful, I dare say there are scammers in every country,

Hey Dylan, all the best from New Zealand, always enjoy your channel. Great info and sorry to hear about the amount of people getting scammed. I often look at those Discogs sellers claiming to be from Ukraine, Russia, China etc, they always seem to have the most sought after vinyl, mint or near mint, far cheaper than anyone else, first Japanese pressings always with the obi, rare Mofi and Classic Records pressings etc, they always appear to have great feedback, and I think to myself, if it looks too good to be true it probably is. It’s a real shame for the legitimate sellers from these countries, as I’ve no doubt it makes buyers wary and they lose business because of it.

If you use "Friends & Family" and have the funds come from your credit card, you can still dispute the charge with the credit card company. Credit Cards don't care if it's F&F....it's only if you get the merchandise or not!

what i`m seeing a few do of late is placing an order for a stack of records and already paying for it as a joblot. Then after the transaction they are asking for another one to be added to the parcel . Normally they have picked some cheap dollar 2 dollar record with the hope that the seller will throw it in for free Instead of mucking about deleting postage on the new wanted record and being added to the existing parcel

The biggest scam on ebay has to be their 100% money back guarantee to buyers who claim 'Item not as described'..Scamming buyers just return a different item to the seller as the one that was sent...As soon as the scammed seller signs for it,bingo money back for the thieving buyer and keeps the sellers item...

Oh good, I collect vinyl from the USSR, and was faced with a similar situation. The record was very pricey, and the seller also gave me the 'friends and family' payment option. But it's a common scamming tactic, so I declined the offer. Has this been reported to Discgos?

This isn't the same, but I wanted Faith No More AngelDust on vinyl. Found a special edition with extra 7 inch (I think, maybe it was a 12 inch too) on Amazon. Waaayyy cheaper than anywhere else (about 45 euro). Paid for it. Got a message from Amazon, no tracking available. There and then I presumed I'd never see this album. Never got it. Got a refund. Does this seem fishy to any of you? Seems to me like a scam, "send it" no tracking (keep for yourself) and I get a refund, you get a free vinyl. Could be done within the company by a worker. Or even anyone working in any post office/package handling "oh no tracking, you're coming with me". Cannot understand why there would be no tracking on a vinyl that cost me 55 euro including postage

"Trust your gut." Or in other words, based on how these things lean toward urgency and building excitement for something that promises to be really special, DON'T trust your gut. Think it through! If you get ANY whiff of incongruity, rethink it. Dillon can trust HIS gut because he knows what's up. A lot of the rest of us need to go a little deeper to avoid problems. Thanks Noble Records.

someone just got me about a week and a half ago, the error message on discogs was different, instead it said "There was a problem processing your order. The transaction could not be completed. If this problem persists, please contact PayPal support." and welp I sent the money to their paypal address, F&F cause I wasn't thinking about it, and still haven't heard from them and they suddenly don't have any items listed for sale. I'm only out like $26 but hey, just like you said, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Similar scams for vacuum tubes right now with people freaked out about Russian vacuum tube shortages looking for matched quads and pairs seeing some silly high prices domestically even from a favorite tube amp hifi UA-camr. Sigh. Gouging is gouging, there is no tube shortage. The domestic gouging is leading to what looks like really good deals on the internet, but they’re just scammers. be careful out there, the market is bonkers on so many things. If it looks to good to be true….

When people start asking me for a "like" to the video before even seeing the video I always give "deslike". It is just so rude to ask for something in return before the video even starts.
