WHO says Bird flu risk to humans an "enormous concern,” but what should you know?

- As the H5N1 bird flu continues to spread globally among different mammals, the World Health Organization's chief scientist, Jeremy Farrar, is warning that the risk to humans remains an "enormous concern."
That comes just weeks after a case was reported in a human in Texas who had recent contact with dairy cows. The virus itself has been circulating since 1996, with the most recent outbreak starting in 2020.
As Global’s Sean Previl reports, at this time there is a very low risk for humans and no need to change their day-to-day activities, but there are still precautions that can be taken globally.

The people governing this planet is the biggest risk to the general population 😢
God bless
Does it infect mealworms and crickets?
I'm sure that the 3D printed 'meat' will be safe and convenient.

Agree 100% ! over'n out.
Just in time for the election!
Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, aw, hell, you know the thing! Cut the malarkey!
Bull
I wonder if someone is going to modify the virus so it becomes more transmissible and deadly.
Closer to the election.
Ummm... Yeah, that's been happening, actually. Check out animal rights organization White Coat Waste Project. They exposed the USDA for working with the CCP and using $1 million of taxpayers' money to do literally this. I've yet to see one media outlet talk about it.
The virus has been mutating itself since 1959 when found on a poultry farm in China.

WHO is corrupt asf
So true
Two people got sick in the US and fully recovered. Hardly what you would consider an enormous risk.
There have been 230 cases of human bird flu infections historically and half have died.
@@eodico Not in North America according to the CDC.
@@Dave-gy5mvJust the ones we know about in the world. Others have more likely died unidentified in remote areas of the world. Bird flu has been around since 1959, mutating over time, as viruses often do.
@@eodico Well if the WHO says so then it must be true. They would never lie to us, would they?
Yes, bird flu has been around a long time. I wonder if it mutates at nearly the same rate as SARS-Covid II, since the “normal” flu viruses don’t seem to mutate as fast. I think the difference now is so many more people who are immunosuppressed, compared to 1918. We have people immunosuppressed due to organ transplant, and for other reasons, which provide a greater opportunity for a virus to mutate. I still wear a mask indoors in public and avoid indoor shopping when cases are high.
WHO IS THE CANCER
A case-fatality ratio based on an accurate and all-inclusive count of cases would be invaluable, but unfortunately it is impossible to attain. The ability to diagnose every case of H5N1 as it arises does not exist. A few small reported studies have attempted to gather preliminary data on this crucial statistic, by carrying out systematic blood testing of neighbors and contacts of fatal cases where there had been confirmed H5N1 fatalities. In most cases this testing failed to turn up any overlooked mild cases.
There has never been a fatal case in North America.
230 cases worldwide. 127 of them died. That's 55% of known infected patients dead from this bird flu.
WHO trying to stay relevant

Animal agriculture and capitalism have gotta go.
It’s not the agriculture that is causing this it is small homesteads or free run that get the virus outside

Yep. I ate vegan for 4 years back in college because it was kinda cool in my circle then. I went back to meat, but I'm thinking about eating plant based again. I mean if refusing animal products will reduce the chance of a viral outbreak, I'm in.
If WHO says it, then I'm not worried, in any case I think they are just trying to ruffle some feathers
The issue here is that people are so exhausted from the COVID pandemic that any other future pandemic anytime soon is going to be met with extreme ignorance, backlash, riots and more. People just want to live their lives like normal, regardless of the risk.
If they try it again it won't be just horns honking they hear.
If dead bodies pile up in refrigerator trucks behind hospitals as they did in NY when SARS Covid 2 first infected NY, people who care to live will wear masks and follow advice to avoid infection.
Honestly, stricter adherence to PPE and sanitization for farm workers (stopping spread at the source) and using the correct handling and pasteurization methods for milk/safe handling/cooking of beef for now (fda recommends medium well to well done to eliminate live viruses), that's enough to reduce the risk of this becoming a human-to-human virus.
I'm still eating beef (fully cooked) and using some dairy products, but I was also considering reducing consumption of animal products already anyway to help lower my cholesterol, so this just sped up the process a little.
The fda did not find any live virus samples in powdered products, so powder baby formula and the like are ok right now. I have a baby so I'm keeping my eye on things. As long as dairy and meat are handled safely, I don't expect an outbreak.
@@MyvPops818 There are such limited profit margins on dairy farms. I hope the government and/or states help provide the financial support dairy farmers need to protect themselves and their staff. I hope dairy farmers are willing to cooperate in all states. One difficulty is the southern states where temperatures are so high, it makes it difficult to wear more layers.
If people lost loved or cherished ones during Covid, or have long covid, they know enough to mask and follow the covid protocols rather than risking their health. Thankfully many of the stores have pick-up areas still functioning, and many folks can work from home, too. We learned much during Covid.
They want to raise prices for chicken and beef and pork. Don't listen to liars. They also said it went as far as Alaska LoL 😆 😂 🤣 😅 😄 🙃 including Antarctica 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂

So how would this be spread from human to human ?

Come on, this is third grade science lolol
It will be modified in a lab, and we will be told it jumped to humans because someone ate chicken soup in wuhan
You said that it has already infected a human being 🤔👂🏿👂🏿👂🏿

3 Americans now. Globally, about 800 people with an over 50% mortality rate. If this jumps to people-to-people, it's going to be worse than Covid.
😂😂😂😂 liar
What happened to covid 19?
um this is what replaced Covid 19 Covid 19 is dead we’re just blaming the birds now.
SARS Covid 2 is still circulating, infecting and hospitalizing people. It continues to mutate as viruses do. The bird flu has been around since 1959, but over time has evolved variants which are affecting more birds and mammals, 21 types of mammals so far in the US. There is evidence it has bounced from birds to cows and back to birds, which gives it more opportunity to mutate.
