- It might seem like it but it's not all Good Things at Supreme Gecko. Today was a really bad day in the facility.
I'm coping and will move forward with the geckos. But, just not today.

Sorry to hear it. Just recently got a nice male Corallus hortulana to start up a new breeding project. He ate perfectly and went well for about two weeks. I went on a 2 day fishing trip and came home to him dead. He had water, he was fed, all was well but he died. I think we all have that moment after an animal dies where we doubt our skill and ability To keep.We just have to accept that these things happen and keep moving on in our hobby.
Thanks Ethan (and sorry to hear about your loss)
This video is just another reason why I respect you so much.
Transparency is important.
As reptile keepers we all understand your heartache.
The desire to analyze tragic events and learn from them is so important.
You have introduced me to some new gecko species. I have fallen in love with Hemidactylus triedrus. I found my 1st fertile egg yesterday from the pair I purchased from you.
You are an asset to this community for sure.
Thank you for such kind words. That means so much. And WOW! Congrats on the H. triedrus eggs. How cool!!!
Sorry for your loss. At first, I adopted a gecko because it was cute. But after adopted a new gecko, the gecko didn't eat for a long time. And i realized that gecko adoption is not only for hobby it’s about life care of living creatures! Fortunately, she eats really well :)
Thank you. Great to hear that she is eating well now.
I'm so sorry Wally. It's always a frustrating thing to happen.
Thank you so much. Exactly. You question everything when this happens.
This sucks Wally... I'm so sorry to hear it happened my friend.
Thank you so much.
I'm really sorry, Wally.
I had some babies die earlier this year for reasons we couldn't really decipher until well after the point (tho I think my friend asked you about it too). It was totally heartbreaking. It hurts so much to lose an animal we love.
Exactly. We try to do our best. When this happens, it's a real setback.
Awww…. That sucks. So sorry man
Thanks Kyle. I appreciate this.
Oh no! So sorry to hear that. It is truly so sad when a animal dies especially when it is one that is so important to you.
Thank you my friend.
I'm sorry, that's so rough, I would be devastated too. I really appreciate that you are sharing this experience. When the experts can be vulnerable and share their experiences, it makes everyone safer and more accountable. Hope you can get some more vegging in tonight!
I feel like I am ANYTHING but an expert. I am learning every single day. This is a huge learning experience and I hope to share any care issues I can on this animal. Thank you so much for the kind words. (and I really don't watch the flintstones.... was the only thing I could think of saying :)
I think everyone is always learning, especially with the rare critters. But weird stuff can happen with anything. My mom and I used to do home foster care for baby crows and we had a totally healthy juvenile just up and die one day. We think it injured itself somehow. At least we have all these ways to get updated info out. You're doing great stuff by sharing what you know and learn.
Haha well, I wouldn't judge if you did. 😁
@@ianaliciaperry5243 thanks for the uplifting message.
So sorry about the loss. It is always hard when an animal is lost. I think most of us have our stories of loss and heartache I definitely understand the pain and hope everything works for you in the end.
Thank you so very much.
So sorry for your lost Wally. Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you so much. I was able to get a male from the breeder and cannot wait for this fall!!!!!
Sorry to hear man...always rough losing any creature, little alone a dream species.
Thanks Ryan. Exactly.
I'm so sorry to hear this. Sometimes it's just bad luck, or the animal's time. My heart goes out to you though, I've been there, and it does hurt. Thank you for sharing, and explaining what helps you to work through devastating things like this.
Thank YOU Saille. I appreciate your kind words and encouragement.
I’m just seeing this video now. I didn’t get a notification about it. I’m so sorry for your loss. It is really helpful to share what happens with each other.
I know that you really helped me out when my pictus escaped and fell. I was so extremely traumatized at that moment and felt like the worst person ever. He hasn’t shown any issues since the fall and is still very active.
It was my pleasure. I hope more people contact me with questions like this. I think sometimes people on other social media platforms can be a bit cruel to others when things like this happens.
Sorry to hear that Wally. I am lucky enough to own one of my dream lizards and it would have been devastating to loose her right after getting her
Really shook me this morning. This was one of those geckos that put me over the top every time I saw it. Thanks!
@@SupremeGecko hopefully the breeder and you can work something out so ypu can get another one
@@jpslizards great person. I'm sure we can.
I realize this is from a while ago, but it's important to share some bad days as well. In the bee world, most people drop out in 2-3 years due to colonies dying. This is ironically about how long it takes to get a basic fundamental understanding of the husbandry required to keep them alive. If we share unicorns and rainbow experiences only, it is not a real picture for someone who desperately wants to care for the animals, but hasn't quite learned how. Even with years of experience, in any kind of farming (geckos, sheep, tarantulas, or pterodactyls) there will be days where an animal dies, and you do not know the cause. Thanks Wally.
It is always hard. Always. It's hard to lose an animal that is such a beautiful creature. And it is hard to share the experience because you feel like a failure. I could not agree more. Doing this helps people understand STUFF happens. Thanks!
Sorry for your loss Wally. Big bummer Minor set back for a major comeback! Try to stay positive!
Thank you Nick. Exactly.... set back I wasn't expecting
Wally, I'm sorry for your loss, total bummer, and I am grateful for your sharing with us, losing an animal never gets easier, that part of the hobby sucks ,I feel most of us have that instant questioning of grief of is it the animal or our care, just the "what the heck, why !?" frustration, I definitely do too. Sometimes Shit just happens,You've definitely got as positive of an attitude as you can in this situation and hopefully tomorrow will be much better for you 💖
Thank you sooooo very much Jessica. I plan to be busy with the animal the entire day. Thanks again
I'm so sorry for your loss. It's never easy losing an animal. Sadly some things are far out of our control.
Thank you my friend
So sorry Wally, that sucks! I know its hard to share this. By sharing this you are showing to others that sometimes bad things happen even when you do everything right. Thank you for making this video, I know it wasn't easy.
This was an extremely difficult day, and difficult video. I did not want anyone to think it was a 'drama' video, but one to show that we can move on after some reflection. Thank you for understanding and your concern.
I’m very sorry this has happened to you wally losing an animal is Hard especially one of your Dream animals. I see and hear the emotions coming from you i wish you the best my friend stay strong
Thank you my friend
Never easy but what a great community to lean on!!!
I am so sorry Wally. I hope you can find out what happened.🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Barb. I'm fortunate that the breeder is great and working with me.
I'm so sorry, Wally. I know you'll figure out what happened so it doesn't happen again.
Unfortunately, I have been where you are with my pet snakes... it never is easy.
Best of luck, my friend.
Thank you Fred
Wally Like I said I am sorry you had this happen ... In my 35 years plus dealing with reptiles and fish sometimes they just die I can guarantee it was not you I am sure it was something no one could have seen coming at all.. just remember we are here for you and you are the greatest my friend ...
Thank you Andrew. YOU know how hard this was. Needed a bit of time but, plodded on this morning
I am so sorry to hear this devastating news. Having lost animals that were special to me recently, I can relate to this situation. It must be heartbreaking to lose one of your dream animals. We know you would never make a video just to start drama. At times like this I like to think of a quote from one of my favorite movies: With love comes loss, it's just part of the deal. The shock of losing any animal is devastating. Thank you for sharing this video with us, letting people who have lost animals that were important in their life know they are not alone and these things happen. Again I am so sorry for your loss. Take all the time you need to recover, don't rush yourself. Stay strong.
Thank you for the extremely kind words and caring. That is a great quote. Thanks.
I am so sorry to hear about this Wally. I would never think you do any of these video for drama sake. Thank you for sharing this very difficult situation.
Thank you for the kind words Kate.
Keep your head up you are amazing at what you do and love your videos new to the gecko, isopod, and reptile world and have learned lots from your videos thank you so much sorry about your loss it's sad to lose anything
Thank you so very much. It's hard to deal with but, tomorrow is another day.
Sorry for your loss buddy.....
Thank you Steve
So sorry Wally!
Thank you Barbara. This one stung!
@@SupremeGecko I can’t even imagine. Especially with it being a reptile you have dreamed about for so long. 😢
@@barbaraspraggins8923 it was shocking. Weird thing.... when I opened the door of the leo room, I thought I smelled it and the thought went through my mind.... "how horrible if......." and sure enough.
I am so sorry .God change things new for you sir
Thank you
Oh no! I am so sorry! I am waiting for 1 or 2 snakes but out of the 3 snakes I currently own I would be devastated if 2 of them passed away (one because she is our 1st snake, she is 9, hopefully we have a good 15 more years with her. The other is my 1st boa and she is a doll, she is only a year).
It's never ever easy
Oh Wally I’m so sorry this has happened
Thank you so much.
Wow I am so very sorry to hear this Wally and Nannette ❤️❤️ Im shedding tears for you, I know it’s hard.
Thank you Sandy. Hard day. Thanks for the kind words.
So sorry for your loss. Take care
Thank you Sarah
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thank you Kara. Much appreciated
Sorry to hear.
Thank you.
That’s really rough. I know what you’re going through. I bought a trio of Puget Sound garter snakes only to (slowly) discover that they had crypto. I don’t know where it came from. I lost one corn snake to it as well. But now I only have one male left and he’s on borrowed time. It’s so frustrating that I was paralyzed when I got the initial diagnosis. I felt like I had an STD with the shame I felt. But I eventually realized it was no ones fault. I notified all the other breeders who I had bought those snakes from. And that’s all I can do. I take all of the precautions I can to prevent it from spreading and make sure I educate people about it. Because it’s so hush-hush in the hobby that no one wants to talk about it and be judged. Thanks for sharing this video, even though it’s difficult.
Thanks for the kindness. If you EVER have an issue that you want to talk about I am willing to listen and absolutely WILL NOT judge.
@@SupremeGecko absolutely! I’ve decided to turn it into an educational experience. Just like my mite problem that I drought home from the last reptile show I went to. I’ve been informing people on my Facebook group about how I’m treating them and what to watch out for in the process. Did you know that provent-a-mite can affect people? It’s pretty nasty stuff.
@@thesaltyspinster I HATE chemicals around my animals
@@SupremeGecko in this situation, it’s a necessary evil. I have to wear a mask and plastic gloves to handle the stuff, but they keep coming back without it.
I am so sorry and sad, Wally. I hope it never happen again for a great man like you. Do you have any idea about the age of him/her?
This was a youngster right from the breeder. Thank you so very much.
Way to go forward Wally!
Can't dwell on this. Live, learn, move forward. Thank you Emily.
Heavy news. Thanks for sharing. Was a need to hear. My personal collecting took a hit as well. Have to change How I keep my critter-kidos moving forward. Not to add to anyone's day but hearing that things happen to the pros I look up to helps put things in perspective. Its a journey. Keep up the good work guys!
Very kind words Brian. It's all about reflecting and improving, right? I wish you all the best with your 're-huddle' :)
So sorry, Wally. We missed you in Rus’ livestream yesterday-taking time for yourself is always good. Things happen-you’re doing exactly the correct thing-learn from it and move on when you can. Thank you for your honesty.
Thank you for the kind words. I hate missing his streams. They are awesome.
awww I know Im late watcing this, but I wanna give you a hug!!!
Thank you so much Shelli. This was heartbreaking. But, I now have a pair again and they are super healthy. Fingers crossed.
Wow, I’m so sorry Wally. I have personally never kept a gecko before but (hopefully this part doesn’t sound to condescending, I just want to mention some cool isopods) I know how I would feel if I sunk 4 digits into the rarest isopods (Merulanella) in the hobby and they just died within days. I know it’s happened to the most experienced breeders (I can even name them I’m not just saying that) so don’t beat yourself up about it.
It was hard not to at the time. The breeder though did come to ME and offer me a replacement. The eases the pain a bit but you still go through that period when you feel like you are the suckiest! :)
Oh wow so beautiful
Thanks
Wow so sorry😥
Thank you very much.
I knew that something was really off by the tone in your voice.
I'm so sorry that this happened. I know how you feel cause all of my animals are like family. Just like you I need to process things and get answers to why this happened. I also need a distraction so I can carry on.
Wow, you caught that? 10 minutes of sitting in front of the camera without saying a word before I started.
Oh no. Sorry bud. 😢
Thanks Big G. Been a great couple of weeks getting caught up with projects. This happens and it just shakes me to the core.
You are the best.
Thank you William.
How dare the notifications fail me
.
You can tell how much these animals meant to you just by how you speak about them, and how devastated you are when you've dealt with what you did today. That just goes to show how well you take care of your babies! Give yourself the time you need, and I hope you can come to a reasonable conclusion and figure out what happened to the poor little guy. ♥
Thank you for the above kind words. And that is exactly how I felt this morning. Putting out this video was half of the healing and if I figure out what I did wrong, that video will be the other half. Thanks again.
