Random thought, but you often hear in the MLM horror stories that Hannah Alonzo reads, once someone is out of the MLM, they not only feel embarrassed but equally sad for the friendships they lost. Wishing they could reach back out and mend the bridges.
If your former friend is no longer in it she may want to reconnect but feels too embarrassed to reach out first.

The thing I hate most about MLMs isn't their crappy products, it's the way they prey on people like stay at home mums who need an income and a job they can fit around the needs of their family. Rather than making any money they alienate friends and family by desperately pushing overpriced crap onto them and making them buy out of guilt and most of the time they end up out of pocket anyway. If we had a decent social set up where childcare was more affordable, bosses were more flexible with working hours and wfh was more accessable, these MLM companies would have less victims. Two single mums I know both tried Younique and both ended up with less money than when they started. I myself tried selling Avon decades ago when my firstborn was a baby, it took me 3 weeks of traipsing the streets with a baby strapped to my chest delivering and collecting catologues to earn £9.

When I worked at my first job 11 years ago my manager was a Younique rep. I'd just started getting into fun colorful makeup and she INSISTED on buying me one of the brands eyeshadow palettes as a gift for my birthday. They had set up a table at our store during a big sale event we were having (retail store) and I insisted that I didn't want any of the makeup 😂 even starting out I could tell the quality was not there. And her makeup always looked like the bad makeup you showcased here.

I am old enough to remember my mother using cake mascara! Tube mascara was invented before I started using makeup in my mid teens. IIRC most of the makeup brands tried out fiber mascara in the mid to late 70s or maybe early 80s and discontinued them. Those fiber mascaras were very clumpy, the fiber did not align with the real lashes and the fiber flaked off onto your cheeks. There is a reason none of the quality makeup companies do fiber mascara these days as far as I know! It's just not a good idea

    • @LunarEleven

Fiber mascara has always disappointed me ("tubing" mascara is where it's at these days, I get one from Miss A for $1.55 that I love!) I do remember when all the brands released fiber mascara in the early aughts. I kept buying different ones because I thought, if they all are doing it, it must be an innovation and I'm just getting the wrong ones... But no, they are all chunky and gross. So it is surprising to hear that it was a trend in the 70s/80s, why bring it back if it's still bad?!
It's a stupid concept. Who cares if your lashes are longer and thicker if they are lumpy and flaking everywhere?

@@Sharmelle586 I really love Bésame. The cake mascara is easy to create my favorite natural 'my lashes but better' look. It stays for an afternoon but not all day on my extremely oily eyes. But more importantly, it doesn't create any eye irritation. I have issues with regular mascara irritating my eyes. The dry cake formula doesn't grow bacteria like wet formulas do.

It was the only mlm product I had ever tried that I originally loved so much that I bought it again and they went and made it horrible. I used the new formula 2-3 times before trashing it. In 2017, I was looking for a new foundation to use, and a Facebook friend recommended Younique. She told me that she could “match” me for foundation “with just a selfie!” It seemed sus since this girl was white and I’m black, but I thought I’d try it. I had no idea what mlms were and I thought I was supporting a nice girl in her small business. I send her my selfie, she tells me my shade (which seemed close enough to me), and I pay the $99 for the foundation, concealer, and makeup brush. That foundation was WAY too light for my dark skin!!! When I told her she was way off on color matching me for my foundation, she suggested that I get a darker shade and mix the two. I laughed out loud when I read that message, sent her a “no thank you”, and bought Fenty foundation instead! When I heard about their performative BLM hashtag, I laughed and said “The irony is that their foundation has the least amount of shades for black and brown people”. AND, it’s essentially blackface.

It was weird to me that there were no trainings from "uplines" about application, so I started researching and learning on my own. What bothered me the most, and why I got it pretty fast after being roped in, was that their production couldn't keep up with how frequently they introduced products. So you'd get these products that people actually liked, but then by the time your customers would want to reorder, the product was discontinued. I was like this is not sustainable and i wonder how they're still in business. This was back when they were pretty new.

My friend used to sell younique I thought I was being a good friend by buying from her (this was before I discovered Chelsea, Savannah, Erin, JJ and friends). I brought their splurge pots (cream eyeshadow)and they were so expensive for mediocre products they dried up in a month then my friend then convinced me to buy a younique rose water to freshen up the eye shadow that was really expensive as well when rose water is £2 in boots. I'm glad people are covering yonique because it's big in UK and I don't think it gets as much coverage as the likes of monat etc.

Ugh....my mom buys from her friend. She says she really likes the mascara. This is since way before I even knew how evil MLMs are. I cant get her to stop.

OT/I love you, Robert! Not only have i learned a lot from you, but i could listen to you read the phone book and feel relaxed. After a hectic, loud day, your voice is very soothing. So thank you for being there. And when you and James are together, i just giggle along with you 2! ❤
Back on topic/ I remember everybody and their brother pushing younique back awhile ago. I didn't try that one, but i fell for a similar one that cost $50 (yeah i know 😩) that did absolutely nothing. Well, except fibers getting all over my face (with a top coat on) and in my contacts (OUCH!).
