Perfect Metal Trim Corner Bend Origami

- Quick metal trim tutorial on making a perfect metal trim corner bend, and make it look like origami. This is very simple and the reason we do it on site is to save materials and also, believe it or not, it makes installation of the first piece of trim on the next wall even easier. Also, do not worry about needing any tabs. This trim detail is actually covered up in the future once side steel is installed.

I hate shorts, but this is amazing.
Yeah seriously...looks cold...where are the pants...? Enough with the shorts already!
👀
I agree me too
The fact that you hate shorts but can't stop watching
I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.
This is a very high-quality well-prepared reference DVD which is . ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx-b91_bYU48sOwHX-XC49tRRXRxcnOmZm Ryan's Shed Plans are very easy to read with excellent illustrations. The author does a great job of explaining in easy to understand terms at just the right level for the average do-it-yourselfer. I highly recommend Ryan's Shed Plans.
The bloody finger, true sign of a sheet metal worker
@Piattos Time ring finger, right hand
@@freewheelin3550 middle finger
@Piattos Time then you're not paying attention
@@alyhat5917 ah ye, i stand corrected
Tin knockers almost always bloody
Did you cut off what could have been your overlap tab on purpose I'm a sheet metal worker and have always left the tab because I was told it was needed for waterproofing. Just wondering
Yes, that's right
Why did you cut it off?
No your correct. OSI sealant instead I guess 😂
Here you are watching a video on how to...🤔 If I were to guess the os corner trim will shed the water and the house wrap is the second line of defense. Don’t know why you’d rely on a base to do any “waterproofing” but I do see what you mean. There is always a way to improve on something, but what Kyle does is an improvement on most everybody’s buildings skills.
Well I say "waterproofing because typically when you put your Z metal you have the tabs on your nailing flange that lap correctly for water to flow over the laps then you under caulk then surface caulk which then gets lathe over the nailing flange followed by wire and then stucco or brick or siding but the sandwich effect makes it waterproof each trade should do what they can to ensure there will be no leaks instead of hoping the trade before or after you does their job right
Why did I watch this SIX times in a row??🤔🤔🤷♂️
Cause you want to be better!
Or u could be hard of understanding 😂
The second mark was 7/8 x3/4 on the third mark! You can clearly see on the speed square..
Both measurements were 7/8" wide.
@@rickl6697 look again bro. It's 7/8 by 3/4. You never see water table bigger than a inch and a quarter. I know for a fact bro, I've been doing sheet metal for over ten years. Only time it's bigger than that, is when your running a stone siding with a transition into metal siding.
@@clearnoisesounds4390 I was gonna argue, but looking again I totally see first mark at 7/8 and second is definitely 3/4
@@dorkman112 lol bro I had to look at it 4 times just to be sure.
@@dorkman112 both 3/4
At least he’s using Midwest snips
Wiss
@c.j Johns they're midwest. He will not use anything else.
Midwest are the best snips!
That’s impressive stuff right there. You can tell that this is something that this person has done many, many times. There’s nothing better than mastering a field and being confident in your skills.
You do it 2-3 times and you "mastered" it tbh
@@crateer what do you master ?
First time bro, clearly.
@@crateer It would take me about 8, but I smoke alot of pot at work. Sentiments still the same though.
But why mark for few simple cuts...real pros just cut.. just sayin, maybe did it for us movices...
We always wrapped the top piece. His flashing will leak on the corner like that. Also the flashing should go under the paper. This would fail inspection where I live.
Good thing he is not in the area where you live 😉
@@sweetness2689 hopefully he’s in an area that doesn’t have water or humidity because his stone waynescote is going to fall off….smartass. 🤣
Below or under?
I swear there's always some "expert"
@@rauljrlara9994 idk why you putting quotes on expert. The man is speaking the truth. The whole point of this stuff is to keep moisture off the wood. If water can seep under the flashing then it defeats the whole purpose of it.
This is a thing of beauty.
I can do that in half the time
Most satisfying thing I have ever seen
Clean looking corner mate!
Congrats on 600k subs!
Thank you
Congrats on being a gay mouse lion
I hate how good you are at your job you need to stop you’re making the entire rest of us look bad.
He made it looks so easy.
Why did you cut the tab off? This way is not water proof.you could've left the part you chopped off tabbed around so you have something to rivet and seal you up-right corner Cool video though.
Thought the same thing

Breh born and raised bend oregon-- I tore down and setup “mobile homes.” Double wides and triple wides. Basically the point is you can learn some crafty shit while on the construction job.
Stop lying just because you worked on your grandma's mobile meth lab doesn't make you an engineer. And them grammar skills are on point🤣

You guys are fascinated with his ability to cut that corner, and I’m fascinated with how he uses left handed tin snips with his right hand 🤯
I do that haha idk why but i feel like I can get better angles w my right hand using a left handed snip
The force is strong with this one...
As a carpentry student, I hope to be this efficient
Becareful of the weekend binge benders so you dont forget "how the hell did i do that last week" and you will be good
@@MagicSpamDragon 🤣🤣🤣 very true
There's easier ways to do a miter bend than that
Donde consigo esa tijeras 😨
All you have to do is not do drugs, look at his hand he already cut himself earlier. Don't do drugs
Easy when you've done it a thousand times
And what's your point? Just shitting on some random person for literally no reason?
Just like anything for anything else 😱
@@FlyingUnosaur I wasn't shitting on anyone it seems you are having a bad day and shitting on me have a good day 🖕

All shorts should be this educational.
Good skills. But how come he didn't leave an overlap on the wall metal?
Yup, he screwed that part up. It looks good but requires a big splooge of caulk.
That amazing I don't know how these guys use tin snips so well. I can barely cut a straight line with these let alone something that can be seen by the customer.
I’m also in the club of being mentally retarded when holding tin snips lol
Practice,, practice, practice!!.. I remember when I would watch guys drywall mudding/taping,, skim coat,, and being amazed,,now yrs later and it's insanely easy to me and now when I train other people, thy always tell me ""I will NEVER be able to do it as fast and good like you"". And I tell them the same thing Everytime.. practice,, practice, practice
👍..thank you Mr Leeland for the training yrs ago!.
Make sure your using the right snips
That was pretty freaking cool! 😎
Finally someone else who prefers greens over reds
How come no lap on the vertical for waterproofing?
Agree. A small adjustment to his first cut and this would be much better
There's other ways he could have done the miter on that too
Yep just do same trick but leave tab over
I can watch this 100 times and its amazing every time
Looks cool only leaks at upper 2”.Proper miter with a fold won’t leak
Hows it gonna leak when it when never see water😂
It'll see water. The sheet metal is going to rest on the drip flashing but given the height and profile I'm guessing it's through wall flashing. This will see water from wind driven rain
Not sure where those numbers came from but that was satisfyimg
Doing the same job hundreds of times and not actually having to think it all becomes muscle memory eventually he probably wasn't even looking at the numbers.
measure the width of horizontal part and add it twice
Also in the Morton handbook iykyk
Cool technique except that you forgot to leave a tap for overlapping the top section of the metal.
Midwest snips are the best
Wish for this demonstration you would have used a marker that I could see.
It's only important the the installer/cut man could see the marks. What's important for the viewer is to see that he made marks to cut and line up the mitre. Dimensions will vary depending on material, but the principal remains the same
@@scottstickler6017 he's demonstrating the process "I" would like to see the process. It would be interesting to see.
@@apauln if you watched it then you saw it. He marked where the substrate corner was. From that mark he measured the depth of the horizontal flange. From that mark he measured the flange depth one more time. Then he made the 45 degree angle by lining up marks C and B. It's pretty self explanatory without captions and narrations
@@scottstickler6017 dude WTF? I just wanted to see it. Move the fuck on...
Ain't nothing like when you know what you're doing and you're doing what you know.
Nice tin snips action!
Everytime going home be like" Huh how did i get that cut."
Only perfect if our view angle was from the least used side of the building, since we can see the seam ;-).
Clean !!!
Wicked.
That was very satisfying to watch.
This guy is a BADASS when it comes to home improvement tips.
Nah wouldn’t pass as it isn’t bent around with an overlap on topmost leg
Rest looks good though
that'll get covered by steel, you trim nazi lol
@@bignate8312 jeez I wish I could say that to quality control
I said the rest looks good but it wouldn’t pass where we are. I do this fir a living. You?
I don’t do this for a living but I’d like to understand why this “wouldn’t pass” and what is the deficiency here? Just a DIY guy hoping yo not F up my build. Thanks.
@@Wyoutside
hey Brandon
We have to have overlap on ALL legs of the joint
You can see his top most legs just butt up to each other.
His very first cut is where he goes wrong. He should have cut 1/2” to left of that, nipped back to corner then bent that around corner; he was fine the rest of the way.
He basically cut off too much metal.
He does great work. Pointing out a deficiency gets one called a Nazi these days. 😂
Good luck with your project 👍
@@CoffeeTroll yeah been doing it for two years. That's what we are trained to do at Morton Buildings. You seem to have taken my comment as an insult, its just totally unnecessary to do what you are doing cause both the upper steel and corner trim would cover that. But if you have dudes telling you to do it that way go for it. Sounds like more work for no reason to me.
This would have been a lot more helpful 8 months ago when i actually needed to do this on a building ffs 🤦♂️
my father said: you only need biology and geography in school, but you need math for life.
Most satisfying video yet.
I’ve always wondered why you Cut off the right piece instead of bending it round the corner.
I know it’s quicker to Cut it off, but I think it gives a bit more protection to bend it around the corner.
Am I wrong and dumb.
It’s just economical, saving materials
It can help waterproof if you leave it on but people put on a vapor barrier or something similar underneath typically meaning that it doesn’t make a huge difference
@@Evegahana it will if the water egresses behind the flashing. It will affect the longevity of the waynescote. The wood will be protected but the masonry will fail.
leaving a back tab is even better. nice work.
When he bent it perfectly around the edge I was like "FINISH HIM" Raiden wins...
Wasn't Bent square
God damn. That’s beautiful craftsmanship right there
This guy has done this a few times!😎
Idk anything about this trade but I love random shorts like this, never know when you’ll need it
Sorry, wouldn't use this bloke to flash a chook pen, incorrect removal material, no material to be returned around top over lapping flashing, definitely no water proof, unless you use copious amounts of silicone sealant. But that's just my opinion from thirty five years working on and flashing roofs, windows and doors?
Stfu
You are right
Yah he cut off an Important tab.
This was amazing to watch!
I love your gift keep um’ coming, don’t ever stop!

This looks so easy when he does it. I couldn't do this. But I'm saving this video.
Incorrectly done should of left a tag on the vertical section
