When hoisting your main sail slacken your lazy Jack's off so the boom bag opens right up. Instead of a foot wide gap you then get a one and a half foot to two foot gap. Makes it much easier to hoist. Once sailing I pull them up a little so they barely touch the sail, you get a better shape on the sail too. When lowering your main tighten them back up.
@@LittleBoatAdventures We got spoiled over here in Canada. Even with Covid, we were out on the water by June and had a nice heat wave all Summer but sadly, now we have snow.
Hi guys! I'm working my way through your videos, amazing stuff! Can I ask if they are the original sails? Any issues with them as they are nearly 50yrs old!? They seem to be doing the job just fine! Fair winds.
I'd love to take part in a thing called the Jester Challenge. I think the boat needs some upgrades for this though. So I hope to spend winter doing as much as I can to prepare for this. Merry Christmas to you too. Here's hoping for a better 2021 for us all
Looks like you had an awesome chilled out couple of days. I'm looking forward to doing the same thing next year once I finish getting my Tomahawk 25 fin keel sorted.
Hey, thanks for your comment. I really was the best few days. Such a shame it was a very short season, damn covid. Have you had to do a lot to your boat?
@@LittleBoatAdventures The old engine gave up the ghost so fitted a retractable engine mount to the transom and got a 6hp outboard so that I could get it moved from Plymouth to Portsmouth which took 5 days due to weather. fitted 2 100w solar panels to keep the batteries charged and added a new battery. I have 3 more batteries to fit so power wont be a problem. Changed the majority of the lights to LED and also have a few oil lamps for night to save on battery power. I need to fix a few things like the table and the main engine but the 6 hp outboard pushes her along at 6kts. All of the sails are in good condition and under sail we managed to get 7kts with the main and furling Genoa. The good things about old boats like your vaga and my tomahawk is the hulls are built like ice brakers. Will keep on sailing till the end of the world comes.
@@LittleBoatAdventures The batteries are the same as for a caravan with 12v & 130Ahr each as it is for the electronics. the LED's are off the shelf plug and plays. I'm doing things in a major budget as I am furloughed and stuck in the house due to covid.
@@Magill2571 Are they lead acid or AGM batteries? As you mentioned about being on a budget, not sure if you seen my video on free AGMs. Might be worth a try, save you a few pounds. Covid, furlough it's all very crazy.
Lovely video. The lazy jacks, mine are on a cleat on the mast and I can let them go and they drop out of the way after a while you get use to just dropping the leeward ones. Let's hope we get a better sailing year in 2021. I am hoping to do the Chester Challange if your up for it ???
How are you keeping? Its been a while. That's brilliant. Anyway you cod send a picture of you set up for the jack lines? No rush though. It's crazy that you mention the Jester Challenge, I've decided to enter next year so that would be brilliant if you were entering too. This will be your second time?
@@LittleBoatAdventures great news about the jester i know of 1 other boat for near you entering "Ken Curry". Yes it will be my second one, not sur but might do the Azores one this time if i am not ready i will do Baltimore. I will take a picture / video of lazy jacks next time i am at the boat

Cheers guys
I can't wait to celebrate my first night at anchor.
Whats your sailing plans for 2021?
Nice enjoyable chilled out video, makes all that hard work the pair of you did worth while, well done 👍
Thanks Paul. You are absolutely right, the hard wordk is worth it for days like this :-)

Great advice thank you. I might have to rig a quick release system for the lines to loosen and tighten them quickly
@@LittleBoatAdventures yes I run mine back to the cockpit on my clutches, they were on cleats on my mast.
Looked pretty sweet out there!
It really was. Shame that was the best weather we had this season.

Great to see you back on the water, i hope you had a great first night at anchor.
Thanks Bob. It was great to tick the night at anchor box. I didn't sleep well though, nervous that the anchor would drag, but thankfully it held fast.
Life is beautifull. May there be many more of these "Little Boat Adventures" for You...
Thank you so much John 😊
New to your channel, looking forward to following.
Thank you, we've checked out and subbed to your channel too
A grand day out, I like the roller boom, let us know how much chain and rode your using some store their chain in the disused fuel tank🏁🌬
Never seen the roller boom in action before.

Hi, thanks for your comment. Im sure the sails were replaced by a previous owner. They seemed quite new when I got the boat 👍

Excellend video :-) You guys deserved this! Wasn't the water temperature freezing?
Thank you, yes the water in the lough never really goes above 10 degrees. It took us both about 10 minutes to eventually lower ourselves in lol.
