The pretty town of Gjirokaster is obviously wise to the advantages of careful tourism - infrastructure work, street cleaning, landscaping - even the portions of town still to be developed show signs of hope. I predict good things for this community - if they continue to be judicious about the influx of both money and people.
I agree and definitely see it keep going towards that way. Actually, the places I have been in Albania on this trip shows alot of positive renovation. Looking forward to see how it all turns out in a few years. I am definitely adding it to my yearly visits :)
My town... still needs a lot of improvement... There are things that I wish not to see... but hey, it's every other town. It is getting better every day... The Municipality will take into consideration, that the city does not have to survive only on Tourism. We used to have at least 5 different factories in the town.. and many many other small Mini factories.... Not anymore... unfortunately. And that is the reason, why some streets look like a bomb has exploded. People do not have jobs like they used to, therefore, no money to repair them. Before 1990 if you walked in my town, you would never see anything like this. They were cleaned, no trash on the street corners, and not a mixture of concrete and stones ( the sore eyes of today). And I am not nostalgic about the communist times, at all.
Thanks for the information. I travelled around Albania and noticed a lot of renovations so it seems like its going on its way up. My friends echo the same statement and its true every place has its up and down, but what caught me by surprise is the hospitality in Albania. Some of the best I have experienced.
At the 7th minute, following the cat... I do not advise walking on that street. ..... it smells... Avoid .
