@@silverfoxsilverfox6932 Yes, I watched that video~ so funny~ haha .
Hwang is the fastest kicker in the world !!!
Roy Horan has actually quite some influence in the hong kong movie scene , he is a close friend for 20 odd years with the legendary producer Ng See Yuen and the Yuen Woo Ping clan and many other old time greats. He produced a HJL trainings video called high impact kicking-check it out its amazing. I hear there is a book of it coming out as well.
Hwang Jang Lee maybe the greatest provable fighter of all time. It is known he had to kill many communists during the war Vietnam war using his peerless martial skill in techniques according to his post-war student Roy Horan interview.
Is this the guy that acted as a Priest in Jackie Chen "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow"?
Wow... been years 'n years since I've seen this gentleman - Roy Horan. He lived in the wilderness with my grandmother and uncles in the early 70's, in northern Canada. My uncle still speaks of him... wonder if he still remembers being in the bush outside of Fort Good Hope, NWT... northern Canada.
He is a legend and he didn't care about drawing much attention , i smirk at people thinking he is a stunt / poor martial artist not only from his skill swhowcase until late in his life but also those confirmed anecdotes about his early life and growing like the time some knife soldier told him his teaching wasn't efficient and tryed to attack him with a white weapon and actually got killed in one kick .* Kudos to master hwang my favorite tae kwon do master !
yeah i know him from Drunken Master his name in the movie was Thunderleg
i never knew his name, till now. i though he was chinese but i was way off. he is korean. Hwang Jang Lee is one of my favorite kung fu villian in film of all time. if only Bruce Lee is still alive, this two make a film together. Bruce is the good guy and Hwang Jang Lee is the bad guy. it will be a epic.
I think Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat is based off of a lot of character Hwang Jang Lee played.

@@malevolenceXXXensues I think Shang Tsung is based on Gold Fox from Secret Rivals 2
I WILL always wonder who is the best.....BRUCE LEE or THUNDERLEG ?
@@flaviushonoriusemperorofro3903 Look no further than Bruce Lee!
Hwang jang lee 👍
Roy horan..is also a hero..thank you for your interview
Roy Horan legendary
I always thought he's chinese and a kung fu fighter :D
and in real he is Korean and Taekwando Fighter ;) really great acting skills
a lot of stunt people and fight choreographers tend to be tkd practitioners from back then and nowadays
Thanks for this video, I love HJL!
is this the priest in snake in the eagle shadow?
Yes
are you uploading the rest of the interview?
@ 2.00 that villainous smile makes me lol, he does the same smile to jackie chan in drunken master
Still wanna see on movies again
Roy’s death scene is so bad it’s goooood lol
Here how his name is written after today´s standards (romanizations) + some links:
Hwang Jang-lee or Hwang Jang-Lee (or Jung instead of Jang).

The actual spelling is Hwang jung Lee and that comes from the man himself.
@@silverfoxsilverfox6932 Very interesting! I didnt know that.
So to make sure:
A) Hwang Jung Lee
B) Hwang jung Lee
C) Hwang Jung lee
Which one is the spelling from himself?
Of course you wrote B, but maybe you did a writing error?
So is it 100% certain B?
Because i like to write names correct like they write their names for themselfs.
Thx :)
@@NDoraku It's actually A. Just checked, the Master himself has commented on this video, if you scroll down through the comments you will see his comments, we are friends. The comment from martial arts academy with Korean writing and the picture of Hwang jung Lee himself, that's the real Hwang jung Lee.
@@silverfoxsilverfox6932 Thx! I just read it. Very cool he himself posted here! Its very rare people of his caliber writing on YT or other platforms. :)
But only an overall question:
Of course i do respect the way he writes his name, but it seems the western world has adopted to write chinese and korean names like this:
Chinese:
Mandarin: Huang Feihong / cantonese: Wong Fei-hung
Mandarin: Nian Gengyao / cantonese: Nien Kan-yao
Mandarin: Huang Zemin / cantonese: Wong Jack-man
Mandarin: Huang Chunliang / cantonese: Wong Shun-leung
Korean (they are written like cantonese)
Kim Jong-un
Kim Jong-ill
Choi Hong-man
Hwang In-shik
Son Ming-heung (soccer player; current captain of South Korea)
etc.
And i read currently in south korean schools there is a new romanization since 2000 which the young people learn today.
They write their names usualle together, like Choi Hongman or Choi Minsoo, etc.
Choi Hong-man writs his own name on Instagram as "Choi Hongman".
Check out this video to see it:
ua-cam.com/video/_8uJU0DlK3M/v-deo.html
Or take Bruce Lee:
He himself wrote his chinese birthname always as "Jun Fan". Today its written almost anywhere as "Jun-fan" or "Jun-Fan" (with hyphen).
All Korean athletes in the western world like soccer players, but even Taekwondoins like Lee Dae-hoon are mostly written like that, not Lee Dae Hoon anymore.
In combat sport too. Chinese MMA fighter Zhang Wei Li is wirtten was Weilli Zhang, same with Boxer Zhang Zhi Lei, who is written as Zhilei Zhang.
Times and romanizations changes.
I know here on YT a Korean 1996 born dude who is in a relationship with a blonde german woman. His name is Kim Dong In, but himself writes his given name always as Dong-In or Dongin (with hyphen or together).
Same does Choy Li Fut master Wong Doc Fei, who writes his given name as Doc-Fai.
Hwang Jang Lee...most ppl will think Lee is his given or family name. If someone reads Hwang Jang-Lee he can see easy the names Jang and Lee belong together.
Best regards to you but also to Master Hwang! :-)
@@NDoraku Check Master Hwang's UA-cam channel out he has some good videos, there is one video which is very biographical about his life, a long interview with rare pictures to, it's in Korean though, there might be a subtitled one on his Instagram page.
That's hilarious. All the years I watched classic kung fu movies, all I did was make fun of this guy for being the goofy "whitey" in the movie. How was I supposed to know that he's a student of martial arts and actually knows his shit?
This guy can also kick some ass.....
That's interesting, where he talks about not kicking a heavy bag or pads. We do kick the air in our linework, but I think that's more a muscle-memory thing rather than focusing on the exact same spot each time. I will try this at home!
If I can plug my twitter page...feel free to follow me (I post various martial arts stuff, as well as health/fitness related things - I'm a PT in training).

But why not hit heavy stuff? ...nothing wrong with that
Not kicking a heavy bag and attempting to kick a target that doesn't exist is much harder than hitting a heavy bag. It improves speed much like shadow boxing, part of martial arts is to train the mind it improves speed.
