Man I love these films. It's amazing that they were filmed _and_ that they are not shared and preserved. Their look is simply gorgeous, and those machines! Now imagine those same machines working today, except covered with strobes instead of 1 or 2 red flags.
Did anybody else noticed, they all even had the same taylor? Never understood bib overalls until I got old. No I play golf in fhem. Originally from Hannibal, found my way to N E Ohio thirty years ago. Man, have times have changed. Thank y'all, ever so much for bringing back some old memories.
i used to do delivier asphalt to those distibitor trucks. most held 1,000 gal. an then just sit an read books or nap till tha trk. pulled back up to reload.
It took over 30 years to build a 110 mile stretch of 4 lane highway near where i live. They just finished it last summer. We cant build jack shyt these days.
I remember Asphalt being done this way. It seemed to last longer. We have more traffic and heavier vehicles than back then. Seems we get something that lasts a year or 2 then it's rip it up and put a thin strip back down following every hole and ripple just like before.
Cool video. Thank you. Hello from Ukraine. Color video from 1950, this is amazing for us. My father only had a black and white camera when he was young in 1980. How we were lagging behind developed countries back then. fucking USSR
Interesting, they mixed the asphalt right on the road. I’ve driven back roads in Missouri, I’m guessing this is why they aren’t as level as a paver does.
Cant build roads today like this i bet this road is still in use day today it's hurry up with the cheapist material last about 3. Years these people took pride in there work
I found it interesting they mixed their asphalt directly on the road instead of at a mix-plant and hauling it in. Back when oil prices were 10-20 times cheaper!
We currently have some pretty wild asphalt mixes. Mixes than can outlast what they used in those times. Unfortunately… due to the nature of our government spending, corrupt 3rd party inspections, and crooked contractors cutting corners nonstop… we end up with horrible roadways. I spent a good while working in the asphalt industry. Paved many hundreds of miles of interstate across 4 states. Inhaled a lot of fumes from the sweet SMA asphalt. I have seen the industry and how it works. We’ve come a long way but unfortunately people choose to be jerks in the industry.
I have never seen roads layed like that!, dry aggregate then sprayed with tar and spread with graders and traffic drove straight on it!, until the last one they didn't even use proper rollers!
Back when state employees did the actual physical labor.....today it's one state employee in a truck making sure sub-contractors don't violate the mountain of state and federal rules, regulations and safety codes.
Ya exactly everything has become "bigger" and "better" but these roads never had nearly as much weight stress put on them as modern roads... Or half as much traffic
Those were some good blade hands. True operators
and no fancy electronics
Yes those guys running those patrols were true blademen
Fantastic film quality. Wish there was sound and smellivision. These guys were artists

The cold rolled road surfaces seemed to last a very long time in northern climates compared to hot mix. More work to do it, though. 👍Enjoyed!
Great footage 😊. I enjoy watching old films like this one

Nice clear video. The first time, I saw a macadam road being (made on site). Thank you.
Como me gusta ver trabajar estas motoniveladoras antiguas ya quw soy un apasionado de esta maquina y ya estabilizaban con cal
Great stuff enjoyed it tremendously. I loved the equipment

Great video! Brings back memories of the good old days for me working on the roads.

Please, it took 30 years to build a 12 mile segment of a 4 lane expressway where I live. I’m 25 now, I’ll be dead 25 years before they finish it
Way of mixing to achieve asphalt pavement, without a asphalt plant. all operators on this crew required great skill.
Bravo......controlled oil spill.......love the guy on grader with no cab....and standing up......wow....cheers
Great video, thank you kindly ~ excellent workmanship‼️

Division 5 on rt.3 was ahead of its time!
In Wisconsin they we paved by these methods and that lasted for along time like 60 70 years
That's a heaping spoonful of hyperbole.
Love the roller .
Was that white stuff being missed in Fly Ash?. That stuff gets hard as concrete

looks like they were still doing macadam paving in 1948

Oh so youre an experienced road builder? Do you think a Model T is better than your car? Stop with the jibberish.

Depending on traffic volume there may be no asphalt left on that stretch of road.
@@steveleach7512 In 1948 gas was about $3.35 (in todays dollars) national average price in USA is $3.43
Thank goodness for modern pavers.

😂BRÁSÍL
You can smell the hot asphalt and tar
Back when men were tough as raw hide. And took pride in their trade.
If you look at that old allis chalmers grader with no cab im sure that was joe biden running it...just ask him he will say it was haha
Don't kid yourself! He never worked a day in his life!
He would be holding the stop sign or someone would have shoved it up his ass.
If they go back doing things old fashion way there won't be any pot holes
Yup if we would just revert back to the weights they hauled in 1948 everything would be pleasing
Ya exactly everything has become "bigger" and "better" but these roads never had nearly as much weight stress put on them as modern roads... Or half as much traffic
well th traffic is ok back thn an now jst sorry road materials
Loved this video!!! Thanks again!!!
