used to paddle fiberglass race boat (prob 12-3 ft long) in Idaho back in the 70’s. it was’t carbon, obviously, but just watching the way this cut through bigger volume really takes me back. memory lane. thanks.
Hahah yeah I got kicked on the top wave and got lazy on my pull stroke that hole was probably the meanest hole out there that day if you noticed I sure didn’t let it settle me into a side surf I pulled that right stroke and loaded the tail
@@WadeHarrison Atleast 20 bucks a yard an it would take quite a bit. Not to bad, but then you add in resin and vacuum system it definitely adds up. It would be sooo sweet to have something like a full carbon antix though!
Man that’s a beautiful boat ! We don’t have any water in AR besides lakes without rocks that wouldn’t trash it or I’d love to own one! The texture bottom should add a tad bit of speed - less drag !
From other vids, you know I'm an OP, but is that carbon fiber fabric, and is it subject to delamination when you hit a rock, or does it just bounce off things like plastic?
@@WadeHarrison It is Carbon/Kevlar. You can see the green Kevlar on the inside. I imagine they used epoxy, so delimitation isn't too big a problem. A layup like this can probably take the daily sliding and scraping, but if you suffer a direct hard hit, it can crack.
Can definitely see the appeal, but I can't see it making it onto the mass market sadly. Be interesting to see if anyone races the Green in one this year.
You are a lucky, lucky man! That boat is so hot!! If you had to guess what the price tag would be...what do you think? I'd guess in the $8-9k area but that's a shot in the dark. Regardless, serious boat for serious paddling. Thanks for sharing
@@WadeHarrison after a little research into what the cf jed and ozone go for I bet you're right in the ballpark. I thought the play boats were around $4500 and that was more than double the actual cost. You're so smart
So you are still using that katana? Must be a great paddle then. That boat must be great for racing, but i dont think anyone else, than some top racers would be interested in purchasing one. I guess a lot of paddlers would like to try this one, but buying is different thing.
Well FYi there have been several carbon boats already in the green race and have won in them in the short boat class and LL did a special 2 part vacuum form run of stingers that also have been used that won I think if you can take a boat down the green and it not explode apart you’re welcome 😂 the green is not where this would ever help you but where it will is racing like ocoee Noli gauley cheat great falls ect. The green is kinda like a rock slider event..
@@WadeHarrison I definitely feel like I’d make it 2 feet before breaking it but at nolafest or a Nantahala down river that could be a possibility make or break your times and hopefully none would be getting be by sups 😂
It's something we'd love to do, but our composite workshop is pretty busy and we're under no illusions that it'd make any commercial sense... maybe if we get some spare time we'll make a one-off like this 12R to try out.
@@PyranhaKayaks what you're saying is nothing until next winter. If you make a CF Ripper, I'll give you the money I'd spend on my next CF mountain bike.

You noticed 😉😎
I love how this thing moves through the water.

Thanks for watching glad I could take you back to the good old days buddy
That’d be a great boat for the Chattooga group paddle in January.
Agree and I’m sure someone will be in it
Damn, I wanted this before the video, now I want it twice as much. That’s like a perfect demo day as you could get.
HHahah
Yeah you will even more if you paddle it
Powerhouse looked huge
It had some extra flow in there
Alwaays scared of that hole bottom of Broken Nose. Looks like the hole stopped you with a nice big stern squirt before flipping. Very exciting video;

It's such a beautiful boat!!
Funny, I've thought about making a carbon boat a few times. Material is definitely not cheap though.
Yeah it’s like a good idea until you start looking at the cost and time then your just ahh to hell with it 😂 I been there buddy

Oh yeah full carbon half slice way to go just make the tail tip super reinforced
@@WadeHarrison Could do a layer or two of Kevlar and put some aluminum or carbon/Kevlar tube in there?
There are a lot of folks waiting for these to be released in the west. Self-support dream boat.
Pyranha would do it if had enough interested well that’s what I heard anyway?

@@WadeHarrison faster for sure ! We use to sand the bottom of power boats get 1-3 mph faster - also a light chop on the water made them run best 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Yes 👍

Yes it’s all carbon t’s pretty solid but it’s good idea to try to avoid rocks if possible

No way this would survive the green under 200% flow because that race requires rock moves
Maybe train in plastic and race in this? But you better be 100% mistake free

Beautiful truck!
It sure is!
How do you think it would compare speedwise to a full carbon White water racer?
I’m not sure I never paddle one of those wildwarer boats if that’s what your asking?
I was going to ask about the weight just as you said “it weighs about as much as a playboat” 😂🤣
It was way lighter then the 12r plastic but would be even lighter if not the regular outfitting in it and was all carbon outfitting

I’m using it today yes I will do a final thoughts on it after more time
You said they use the decal for the logo because you can't mold it in carbon fiber. How did they do it on the bottom of the boat?
That's a texture :)
What they said ☝🏻☝🏻
Go down the hall to P&H and they'll show you how to do it. :)

Not exactly sure maybe 40ish

I bet there is a market for those with some disposable income. Those put ins are filled with 10000 custom sprinters
a different layup and you could abuse that boat a little more on rocks
