Thing is this was always Amys character to an extent. He compassion, her love for others, these were a part of her, it's just that her whole thing with Sonic was so overpowering that it greatly distracted from who she was outside of that. Most notably we see this in SA1 and 2, specifically her interactions with birdy and Gamma as well as her conversation with Shadow. After SA2 those elements were kind of lost. Frontiers has brought back those aspects of her character, but instead of feeling like a footnote crushed under the weight of her fan-girlish obsession with Sonic it's instead central to who she is and her world view. You can tell she still has feelings about Sonic, but it's subtle. This is a matured Amy Rose, more grown up. And her relationship with Sonic is matured as well. This is the best direction they could have taken her.
They weren't lost. People just meme'd on her so hard they pretend they weren't there. She did the same kind of thing wirh Cream, Big, Emerl, Blaze, and even Elise.
She was quite like this up until 06 bombed, then they completely bastardized EVERYONE not just Amy. Tails became pathetic and codependent, knuckles became a meathead, rouge was just seduction and shadow became an edgelord. People would just target amy because she's the love interest. The games people often like to site for where amy is "obsessive" are games that flanderize EVERYONE. Free Riders, X, and Battle for example are games where EVERYONE is bastardized. Not just Amy. Frontiers is great because it's establishing new roles for how the main 3 fit into sonic's life, but also re-establish their personas from the adventure era. This is a beacon of hope for tails amy and knuckles collectively.
@@emotion_deluxe I was actually going to write something to that effect. Amy's writing is inconsistent because that's how Sonic games have been. Now that the story's actually good, and the cast has matured, we get whole characters this time.

Everybody's talking about how Amy's personality is being shifted back to how it should've been since the beginning, which is all well and good, I absolutely adore it too, but can we talk about Sonic's responses to some of the things she says? Honestly, Sonic has also grown a lot for this game as well. The dialouge is just so convincing. Like, Sonic actually feels like he has a soft spot for Amy that shines through, but he has to balance it with his overall personality. And that line of "I'm sure you'll do great. I wanna hear all about it when you get back," in response to her goal... I wasn't a SonAmy shipper before, but this game has convinced me. Lol
9:43 is still one of my favorite moments in the game. Theres lots of awesome dramatic action but this is a great quiet, introspective scene with a gorgeously bittersweet soundtrack.
Amy having a personnality outside of being obsessed with Sonic? And having goals that don't revolve around him? They told me the new writer for this game would shake things up, but I had no idea.
In fairness to Amy, she had these elements to her character before, SA1 and 2 do TRY to emphasize her compassion and love of others, but the whole obsession with Sonic was rather overpowering and made it hard to focus on other aspects of who she was. Frontiers has kind of rebalanced the character, where her kindness and desire to help others above all else are front and center where her love of Sonic more flavours her interactions with him rather than being the single driving force.
@@vocalcalibration8033 They reverted her back to her original character position. She always wanted to be a hero and now good writers (The comic writers are great too) are fixing the horrible mess made. Tails and Knuckles also got their charm back thankful for these changes
10:21 Man, I can tell they wanted to develop a romantic relationship here so badly, they had to push it by making Amy say she wants to share that love with the world.
@BreakTheUniverse⚡️ I mean, I can see what they did, and it's not bad since their interaction has been almost the same for so many years and has grown a bit, probably since Lost World or Generations. But with all the imagery and some of their dialogues, I can see how it could've evolved from just being a fan girl interaction to developing a relationship in order to give continuation to their story together, however it just feels like they wanted to go with that and suddenly dropped it due to their strict guidelines and decided to say just whatever sounded good, and just imply something more was going on. Of course, this is just a stretch of the imagination, and what they said in the game is what it is, but it just feels that way.

@Jayy-ux9fu I mean, that idea applies to pretty much everything on the series. If it's not stated in there, then it's not official. Then again, Amy did say multiple times back then she wanted to marry Sonic. But anyway, at least this way of handling things will ensure to keep the series going for years to come. They do wanna expand a lot and explain multiple things in the games, but they won't do it any time soon. They barely explained the origin of the Chaos Emeralds.
@@ChSjRi thanks for the reply. Yes this idea goes for most parts of the series but if u do this. It ruins Amy’s character. By IDW post-Forces, she still has her crush on Sonic and isn't afraid to show it, but has learned to completely dial back the obsessiveness to not make him feel uncomfortable and not afraid to switch her priorities to help out him or anyone else in need. Having been affected by the harrowing sights of the Koco's origins whilst sharing somewhat of an admiration of a love that transcended time to its end, Amy decides on a new goal to share those experiences the Koco went through with the world.
@@Signerdragon123 The issue with this is that the games don't follow up this newfound character well, Amy has been this way since Lost World, they just explained in Forces. And while it is believable that Amy would have to mature eventually how the games do it comes off as a retcon than actual development. I DO think having her own goal to forward to after experiencing what the Koco went through is good, but modern Amy has no character. She's basically just Boom Amy now only more passive. If fans want to use "being normal" as defense for why she has character, then name a single personality trait she's expressed since she's been "normal" that isn't just passive, girl or motherly. Even her scenes where she shows emotion don't showcase a strong range. At least when Amy was the fangirl she had strong emotional range when she expressed anger. She brought out her hammer or when she didn't her facial expressions showcased the anger she was feeling, in Frontiers when Amy is mad her voice doesn't do a good job at that because of the passive range Cindy gives her because she has to be "mature" to objectively be good. Amy could've been her older self but expressed maturity in a way that still made her in character, rather than just strip away her previous character traits and act like being passive or the girl is a version of being normal. When I see Cindy play Amy in Frontiers (or any meta era game) I don't see Amy, I see her imitating Boom Amy with less character, because the voice she tries to give Amy is clearly just her Boom performance. Amy should be allowed to flirt with Sonic in a way that's mature, a little wink or flirty line, but still acknowledge or be involved in the bigger picture (like in Frontiers), instead she's just the girl of Sonic's friends who expresses motherly traits that just happens to be in the adventure. This isn't downplaying the fact Amy has her own moments in Frontiers she does. I loved that scene with her and the Kocos as well as her in the ending. It's pretty much the best thing these characters have done in the past decade, but as far as character, who is she? Because she isn't Sonic's love interest or a fangirl with a temper, she's just the girl of Sonic's friends. She doesn't even have a character flaw anymore. I literally had a friend who never played Sonic get introduced to Amy in Frontiers and meta era games, and she didn't even know Amy liked Sonic, just that she was a girl Sonic hung around. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE Amy being mature as a character evolution thing for her, as I think it shows how far she's grown and how Sonic has her as part of the team more often, it's just the games went so poorly about doing it that all we get out of her development is reading the comics. Hell, if I were new to the series and the newer games were my introduction to Amy, I wouldn't even know who she was besides being the girl of Sonic's friends. The fact she never shows signs of liking him means her main characteristic is stripped away, it's like Knuckles never mentioning the Master Emerald or Tails forgetting he could do techno stuff.
