Strauss did indeed sanction the use of a larger string section in the 1947 recording of Metamorphosen. From Richard Osborne's Conversations with Karajan: HvK: I loved Metamorphosen from the moment the score was published. Everything about it up to the last page where Strauss wrote IN MEMORIAM! and we hear the 'Eroica' theme for the last time. You know, it is only when he came to that final page that he realized where the theme came from, so absorbed was he in the process of composition. It was a Sacher commission. But when I played it I thought that in some of the climaxes the original twenty-three strings were too few to make a full effect. So when we came to make the recording in Vienna I asked Strauss through a mutual friend we had at that time if I could use a fuller body of strings in the climaxes. He said to my friend: 'If he's got the strings, let him do it!'

Educated at the University of Oxford, his research focuses on opera studies (from Gluck to contemporary productions), modern dance, analysis, performance studies, Austrian literature as well as the politics of music in interwar/postwar Austria and Germany. Everything is fine but it is clear that he doesn't play any instrument, he doesn't compose, he isn't an arranger or he conducts. He is basically a "commentator" on music (like so many musicologists and scholars).

But Karajan says: Don´t tell me this, tell me what´s wrong. Strauss was surprised and invite Karajan to Garmisch, at his home, they speak .... Karajan told this story his whole life, he was proud of the contact. Richard Osbourne wrote this in his famous Karajan Interview Book.
@@cinemascore-along I do apologise but your explaination is totally wrong. As a FAMILY NAME, the correct pronunciation is KARAJAN - pron. KARAIAN also because the name comes from Macedonia - where the Karajannis came from. So the gentleman in the movie, obviously unaware of the correct way to pronounce a name so famous and renown, is wrong. Do you need further confirmation? Please listen to the thousands (if not millions) of interviews ad movies and documentaries about KARAJAN and listen to the proper pronunciation of the Name by thousands (if not millions) people. Or do even better: the interviewer pronounces the Name correctly, the gentleman is going on pronouncing it in a totally wrong way, IN THE VERY SAME CONTEXT! And avoid speaking when you obviously don't know what you are talking about. And I add: Karajan WAS NOT a composer but a CONDUCTOR and he was not GERMAN BUT AUSTRIAN - being born in the Austrian Empire (Salzburg) on the 5th April 1908. You definitely need to listen well and understand better.

It is sad to see (and hear!) apparently at least moderately educated man pronouncing the name of one of the best known musicians wrong. This is the General secretary of what???? How on earth he could have passed any serious interview for such a position! He can even hear Ms. Bernauer to pronounce the conductor´s name correctly - is he deaf ????? I can´t believe my ears.
