My personal theory is when he talked about multiple suns in the sky , it was probably just a large meteor flash in the sky and it got passed from person to person. Like “hey I saw a huge flash of light in the sky” and after a couple years of telephone “oh yeah some guy a few years ago saw another sun suddenly appear”
10:00 Galileo thing is mpre complicated. He lived in times when Church as political entity was in constant power struggle with Emperor for last few centuries and with start of reformation was starting loosing. As a way to stop problem to grow there was put a ban to any development either in sphere of teology or science ubtil better solution to stop reformation was found. He was also a character that made a lot of enemies. Fact he was killed was wrong, but this was political reasons. Also church was organization that was doing a lot of scientific research for most of history after the fall of western roman empire. I know in America it's not seen that way as "Christians are anti science", but it's mostly because extremist organizations like puritans were basically banished to the new world
I'd say 50% of what he got wrong was because they didn't know about gravity, 25% was because they didn't know the periodic table, and the rest was because he took folk tales on good faith
The multiple suns thing comes from "sun dogs" or a phenomenon in which ice crystals in the atmosphere refract sunlight just enough so that it looks like the sun is surrounded by some form of halo and often flanked by two other suns. It's certainly an odd thing but not that uncommon, there's plenty of footage of it. Most of what they got wrong can be chalked down to lack of knowledge about pressure and even less about gravity. These things wouldn't be more understood until gunpowder was invented.
You had a really tough time with this one, haha! It's a lot to take in. It's good you go back to rehear parts when you get lost but you may also wish to just always go back 5 seconds with the arrow keys whenever you pause just so you don't pick back up in the middle of a word or sentence. That's where most of the context gets lost for you, I think! It's like in guitar hero games, whenever you pause the game and u pause, the song goes back a few measures so you rehear a familiar part of the song as get back to the game. Same concept.
there's nothing worse than v-tubers streaming their reactions since they only pay like 1/4 attention to the video and are mainly just staring at chat trying to interact when a video is playing literally both right in front of them and in their ears.

It's not just chat on one screen. I have about 7 other things going on that I have to monitor. I'm able to hear the video just fine, but sometimes my brain needs an extra round to process information being spewed at me in quick succession. Something that's a problem for me even when I'm not streaming and 100% focused on the video. Sorry if you don't like that but my setup is janky by default. I'm making it work the best I can.
@lop90ful1 To be fair, I don't think she was keeping track of what the confirmation symbols meant. She admitted at the beginning she wasn't going to be able to (it is a weird system if you aren't already familiar with it), so I won't fault her there. But I do agree in the sense that this was really uncharitable. It's like she was looking specifically for what was wrong to poke fun rather than considering how much they already knew back then. I often hear in the history community how much people underestimate how smart our ancestors were and what they were able to figure out, but this is my first time seeing it in the wild without it being some conspiracy theorist saying it. Not exactly pleasant...

Its pretty funny that this guy was smarter than 90% of ppl today

37:35 Meat falling from the sky is real. Look up Kentucky Meat Shower (1876).
I didn't know Pliny was still around in 1876 AD.
@skiller5034 That's not what I said, what I'm saying is that Meat falling from sky is not unheard of even in modern age.

I tried to shift over a sentence or two to avoid it but the sentences were long here.
So I just looked it up on Google Maps
From the Ganges to Gades is 9,889 km which equals 6144.74 miles so Pliny actually overestimated lol
Keep in mind Roman miles are not the same as imperial miles.
@skiller5034 Yeah you're right
speaking of romans, "unbiased history of rome" by dovahhatty on youtube is a banger series but pretty long
This feels like a long one
There was a lot to take in
@GourdietheGardener I bet there was and I hope there's more :3
I really miss the png
I must say, I'm impressed for turning 20 minutes video into hour+. In good way. This means you have something to say instead of jsut watching:)
I try but sometimes with videos like this there's a lot to take in and sometimes there's not much to say.
Have you seen that Deer girl anime?
