I just realized that Hook steals every woman in Neal's/Baelfire's life. First he stole his mother and fell in love with her! Then he fell in love with Emma, Neal's "girlfriend", And stole her from him too! I can see why Neal doesn't like Hook!
How do you steal a person? Milah chose to go with him and Emma decided to move on from Neal after Neal died. The latter didn't even have a relationship until well after Neal's death.

This was one of my favorite episodes. It was just so sad I wished we could have seen Hook and Bae bond more. Hook has got to have the most depressing past through out the whole show.
I don't think Hook knew Bae long enough to love him. Though its safe to say Hook really WANTED to love him because he was the son of the woman he loved. He really wanted to develop a relationship with Bae to hold on to the last of Milah he had, but Baelfire rejected him and he couldn't take it. If he really had gotten to love Bae as a son, he wouldn't have given him up so easily.

No. He did not give him "one more chance". That was a fake chance. There is no way Hook would have fought the lost boys, he didn't do so at the beginning of the episode neither would he have done here. Mainly because he is not strong enough to put up a fight with them. Although having said that, Hook was never logical and quite stupid. Always run by his emotions - he got betrayed by Regina, Cora and then captured by Tamara. Hmm, I guess you have a point.
That's one of the reasons why Henry was so desperate to find Emma, because all his life, Regina tried to convince Henry there was no curse and all the stuff he noticed about the curse was in his mind. While Regina did love and provide for Henry, telling Henry over and over again that the unchanging town was all in his head is pretty abusive. I actually read a fanfic from Henry's POV growing up in storybrooke. It was kind of horrifying.

Then Bae rejected him and Hook probably thought, "well. . .can't save him anyway, and he doesn't want me so I'm not going to fight for him." But I really don't think Hook summoned the lost ones there and then insincerely pleaded with Baelfire to let him take care of him.
How else would they know Bae was on the Jolly Roger in the first place? They already searched the ship in the beginning of the episode. Back when Hook and Baelfire first meet.

It just occurred to me that Neal would have seen the carvings when he sailed the ship back to Storybrooke. Although it would have kinda tipped the show's hand as to how he and Hook knew each other if we had seen Neal see the carving and react to it, I wish we had seen what his reaction was. Even though we really have only had one episode with scenes with these two together I find their relationship poignant and hope the show explores it more next season, either in flashback or present day.
