I was lucky enough to see 'No No Nanette" on Broadway. When Ms. Keeler made her first entrance, she appeared at the top of a staircase. In a peach colored dress with a lovely bow ribbon at the neck. Looking positively breath taking. The audience burst into an incredible round of thunderous applause, and she just stood, beaming, before the show continued. It was an unforgettably magic moment. How gifted we felt to be in the theatre, and remembering this event, to comment about it..now, in 2018.
So wistfully jealous, Cynthia! 👏🏼 💗 The massive, magical gift those Great Depression Human, non-faking artists gave us … Ahhhh … well … Even if we’ll never see their like again… at least we have them on film, for as long as we mutually last it out now together, we goofy, SuperConsumer humans … - Thanks ALWAYS, Ruby Keller, JAMES CAGNEY and your truly brilliant ilk! Footlight Parade got me hooked when i was 23....still addicted to dancing Jimmy Cagny, Keeler, Dick Powell, but mostly Buzby Berkley and his unique talents.....the films of the 30's only get better with time.
@@poopstainhotdog1 Ain't it just a breath of fresh air, these days....this one of Ginger Rogers and Dick Powell slays me...ua-cam.com/video/mSvQtAnh_CI/v-deo.html and this one mesmerizes... ua-cam.com/video/P76cUtCGRQs/v-deo.html lol....cheers
I wholeheartedly agree, I always go back to these Busby films over and over 90 years after they were made. In general, I find the films from the 30s feel fresh and modern still today.
Hi Debby Really, it could be that she requested Tom Hatten not to bring up the subject of Al Jolson for some reason though that would have been very interesting. Iris from Manassas, VA.
Wow, you’ve got Ruby Keeler on set and this is all you can think of asking her? One can only imagine what Terri Gross would have gleaned in the same amount of time.
It isn't John Garfield. It is sometimes written that John Garfield made his (uncredited) film debut in the "Shanghai Lil" routine in a (5/6ths of a second) shot.[9] The 2003 Turner Classic Movies documentary The John Garfield Story refutes this, as do several John Garfield biographies that give timelines where he is in New York and then on tour in Chicago with the revival of the play Counsellor-at-Law in 1933.[10][11]
I love ruby keeler, before I had ever seen her I thought she was gonna be old and chunky but she was a dinky little pretty thing who could tap tap tap ❤

I wish I could've seen her in No No Nanette! Sounds wonderful. She was a real star.

Yes same here. And now pre-code is one of my favorite eras.

@@poopstainhotdog1 Those films are almost 100 years old now. Astonishing how well they've aged.

Thanks for this post. Rare clips like this is why UA-cam is an essential tool to preserve the history of film & television.
I've heard of Ruby Keeler forever, but have only recently gotten a good dose of her movies - thanks to TCM. What a treasure she was.
Same!
Ruby was the first to pave the way for them all , Eleanor Powell,Ann Miller,Harriet Frinfrock! Thank you,Ruby! God bless you!
I enjoyed seeing that interview. She was fantastic!
Do you know what year that was? (She had a stroke in about 1974). Just curious.
@@sharonm.t.2492 I don't remember. But you can most likely find the interview right here on You Tube.
@@sharonm.t.2492 1980, according to another comment on here.
I taped this off TV when first broadcast in 1980 and had it for many years. A very rare interview.
Wonderful recorded history from a golden age of film industry pioneers.
I can't decide who is more charming and endearing, Ruby Keeler or host Tom 😎👍
just saw 42 street for the first time, wasnt familiar with Ruby but wow what a talent and not too bad to look at.Great movie
To say the least, eh? 😊
"The stars that hang high over Shanghai / Bring back the memories of a thrill..."
She was wonderful. I loved watching her movies
One of the greats.
I could see the Al Jolson memorial from my back yard if I stood on my slide, in the morning if fog was lifting, it looked like it was in heaven.
Jan Lloyd I just visited the memorial last week. Absolutely beautiful.
Tom Hatten came to my school when I was a kid (Westchester, Ca,) and did drawings and squiggles for us all.
Loyola Village? Orville Wright?
She still looks so beautiful here.
Like a glowing beauty 😍
SHE WAS SPECTACULAR , THEY ALL WERE - TALENT AND PERSONALITY ! AND FLYING FEET !
She was spectacularest !
Legend.
Tom Hatten appeared on a few episodes of "Hogan's Heroes"!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hear so much about Eleanor Powell and Ann Miller, both extremely PHENOMENAL. But not much about Ruby! Now im interested!
🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️R.I.P.
she always played so sweet ( wow , so talented ) , but here she seems so tough , ah life !
Wish he'd also asked about Al Jolson
Ruby didn't like to talk about Al Jolson; he was abusive to her.

Why or why don't we challenge tap dance people anymore?
When was this?
