    RECIPE IN DESCRIPTION! My grandparents say they used to make everything from the glutinous rice flour to the filling from scratch - it used to take many days of work and waiting. This is an easier take on authentic tangyuan which combines traditional and simple methods - hope you will try it! How does your family celebrate the lantern festival?

      For the water what you pour on the glutinous flour, that is hot water or plain water? Thanks

    I made traditional sesame ones for my family yesterday. They had many prejudices against Chinese food and Asian culture in general, so I was so so so happy so see how much they loved it! My grandpa was the worst one, I was surprised to see how much he enjoyed it, he wanted to eat four lmao
    Unfortunately, he still spat a bunch of racist jokes along the way -.-' but now he is at least more open to different dishes from other cultures.

      Wow this is the best comment ever. Thank you so much for letting me know and I'm unbelievably happy and grateful your family liked them!! Sharing food is a great feeling. 😅😅 Maybe grandpa will be able to change his outlook slowly, it can be hard to communicate when there's such an age gap. But at least he now knows there's a lot of delicious food out there in different cultures!

    伊伊你真的太贤惠啦啊啊!!!!!还自己包汤圆!今年的元宵一个人过,没有吃汤圆😢 It is so great that your family still keeps the tradition even living overseas. May I ask are you born in the UK and you are the second generation? For friends I knew in the US, I feel like the tradition is gradually losing as they stay longer overseas.

      We were initially international students and now working in the bay area, and we are a bit busy in our work, so to be honest we don't celebrate traditions that much. Occasionally we will go to my friend' place and make dumplings or do hotpot.
      On the other hand, actually doing youtube is pushing myself to pay more attention to cultural background. Since we are all part of the media system, we've got to be selective in our standing and opinion. And that's why I truly appreciate your content. Keep it up!

    • @cherryday7528
      @cherryday7528  3 роки тому

      Hi Susana! Thank you so much for watching. And it terms of storage, you can freeze them (just place them in an airtight container and freeze, don't worry if they stick together they should come apart again when you boil, and again boil until they float and then for another few minutes as per instruction). However I wouldn't refrigerate as the skin will dry out. Hope this was helpful!

    Can I use tapioca starch instead of glutinous rice flour?

    • @cherryday7528
      @cherryday7528  4 роки тому +1

      So sorry for the late reply! I don't think that tapioca starch is a substitute for glutinous rice flour (they can both be thickeners but as a dough they have really different textures, tapioca starch will make something kind of like boba pearls where as tangyuan are more 'biteable' and soft, like mochi!) Although I've never tried with tapioca starch and it might even turn out to be super delicious! (peanut flavour boba pearls?! Yes please) Thank you so so much for watching regardless!
