    Computers have truly changed the world. CNC is becoming the next consumerisation movement. Great videos and clear explanation like this will really help the masses. Excellent video, thanks.

    Strats can have truss rod access at either end. 50's and early 60's models were mostly heel end adjustment, the 70's strats have adjustment at the nut end.

    in this video you use vacuum to fix the wood when flip? or just dowell pins?

    Can I use SolidWorks for modeling?

    • @LagunaTools
      @LagunaTools  6 років тому

      Yep! But you'll need a program like VCarve to interpret your models by the machine

    No. Stratocaster necks have their truss rod adjusted under the pickguard on the body. It isn't like most other guitars where the truss rod access behind the nut on the headstock.

    Is the IQ model CNC large enough to do the necks?

    • @LagunaTools
      @LagunaTools  10 років тому

      Yes. We also have an upcoming video of one of our customers doing the guitar necks on his Laguna CNC IQ. ua-cam.com/video/-p0D82otZwQ/v-deo.html

    • @truckingdrummer
      @truckingdrummer 9 років тому

      You would have to use a clamping system of some kind to hold the piece in place while being machined

    Hi Bob, very nice video, I really enjoyed hatching it, what are the chances you could send me the file or the g code? I just made a CNC mill but do not know how to make the program to cut a neck like the one you cut.
    Thank you very much for your time and attention.

      Hey David, stoked that you're wanting to get into the CNC world! If you want to skip the process and just talk to someone directly to figure out what would work best for you, since there are different sizes and options, call (800) 234-1976

    what software is that?

  • @beebeebee57
    @beebeebee57 9 років тому

    The MacBook in the video has a Intel based processor so therefore using Boot-Camp, or Parallels it's able to either boot directly into Windows 7 OS or run it in a virtualized machine. The virtualized machine allows easy access to both the Windows and Mac OS.

    The neck looks weird where it joins to the headstock. it looks like it has a lump where it should be a smooth transition. nice work tho.

    I don't think this was a mistake, it's quite possible that the customer wanted to reverse mount the Truss Rod.

      I haven't had the opportunity to digitize one of those yet.
      All necks are same but different shapes.
      $31.80 for the material, flat necks not angled headstock, 3.5 hours on the CNC machine and about 8 hours, file to polish time, then another 5-8 for the fret board. And then there is the design and CNC programming cost 70 hours at $45/per, I forgot the patent about 5k (in work now)
      Still interested? this is production machining tooling costs which are the same as a one-off first. If I do the work myself I cannot charge myself. The next neck up to do is the J-bass. do you wish to see pictures? This neck was intro'd at NAMM 2016, billet, it works well.

      Oh yeah is weighs the same as maple and doesn't nee a truss rod.
      The heaviest part is the ebony and fret wires.

      +OZZtosh LUMA Guitars My guitar changes tuning when it gets cold. I was hoping an aluminum neck would stop that. could I save money if I could do some of the labor myself ?

    Aw, the poor second guy. He looks horrified! Imagine seeing a craft you have taken years to master being replicated by a machine. He is so humble though in his final comments regarding it as just another tool.

    The hardware doesn't seem to be the problem. The software alone would put me in the poorhouse, that's where it gets pricey.

    A master craftsman would have looked at the drawing and noticed that the truss rod slot was supposed to go all the way through the neck and out the headstock end (1:04). Otherwise the truss rod can never be adjusted (or even installed). Oops!
    CNC may let you carve like a master craftsman, but it won't make you as smart as one. LOL!
    Disclaimer: I'd jump at the chance to own an affordable CNC machine for producing musical instrument parts (and would undoubtedly make a few oops myself!)
