- This video is a showcase of the mod "Dungeon Master!" created by spoop for the 2023 mod jam for The Binding of Isaac Repentance. The mod adds a new type of beggar to the starting room of your run that allows you to transform Isaac, Maggy, Cain and Jusas into their Dungeons and Dragons counterparts, the Fighter, Cerlic, Rogue and Wizard!

A really cool mod idea! Keep in mind that it was kinda made in a rush because the contest had limited time. I think the idea has a lot of potential, let's hope it will get some (more) love one day ^^

as a fan of D&D, this mod gets a thumbs up from me. Love it all.
I remember Samson explicitly being an expansion on this - him being the barbarian, not sure about others.
I've heard Eve is meant to be a druid? I don't think blue baby is anything tho

Imo, Isaac being the dungeon master would be more accurate
honestly i can see Azazel being the Warlock with elderitch blast spam, Samson reprising his role as the barbarian (bonus points if his pocket active is "i would like to rage") and perhaps Bethany becomes the "Divine Soul Sorcerer"
also if they ever buff the Rogue, implementing a form of Sneak Attack might be the way to do it.
As for the others like Lilith and Jacob+Esau?
@@karisasani7006 Jacob and Esau or Lilith could easily be the pathfinder class Summoner or the 5e DnD fighter subclass Echo Knight.
Judas and Maggy definitely got the most cook time, though to be fair I think they need it the most. The Cleric and Wizard inspo don't really come through in their original incarnations, especially when Judas only starts getting "mage-y" effects with his Birthright in Repentance almost ten years later. Though I think that's part of the conscious decision to not update older characters at all, like how they want pocket actives to only be for Tainted characters.
Sadly Cain is an objective downgrade and Isaac is a sidegrade, but c'est la vie. It was for a mod jam, I'm not expecting them to all be fully fleshed out.
love cains concept, but its just not worth the effort, and isaac isnt that strong either
@@swagubirk Yeah those two are underwhelming. I dunno if there's really a way to illustrate theft or Sneak Attack on Cain without him basically becoming Tainted Judas, though Isaac should be stronger being that he's a Fighter. There again I think that also runs the risk of him essentially becoming Forgotten; there's too many characters released since base Isaac that explore their own ideas better, like Bethany being a way better take on a mage than Judas.

I genuinely want to see this mod become the next Epiphany type mod, adding D&D classes for each class, like a D-side.
in order to compensate for the damage loss, Cain should get the backstabber effect
and base camo pants

Some kind of progresion items be cool. For example when you beat it lives you get upgrade to damage of your spells as judas or more spells as magie. Becaues of the whole leveling system in D&D.
I feel like Maggy’s spells should only be able to charge in uncleared rooms tbh, it seems kinda unfair to just be able to idle in a room for 2 minutes and then be able to instakill whatever is in the next room
This is really cool! I really like this! I hope they add more characters like for example maybe forgotten where hes a necromancer? Not sure but it'd be super cool!

then you get eden and it's like 3 different gimmicks from random classes that may or may not completely override each other

I think maybe killling enemies with cain's "slice" could drop random pickups, awarding better pickups depending on the enemy's health, or something like that
Maybe Thief Cain could have a natural buffed BackStab ability and a SECOND item similar to a Decoy with an over-time recharge that aggros enemies for easier backstabs.
In order to make the thief/rogue class more viable, how about like a bar similar to Maggie, and Judas is in which it only has one ability which effect gives the camo undies effect
5:50 thief needs to you know...be able to at least pickpocket enemies. At least being able to steal consumables would make it more interesting, rather than a much worse warrior
rogues in dnd dont steal things that often? they're more sneaky characters that use the element of surprise

I will not be surprised if samson will be the barbarian class in the future

rogue should be able to steal items from shops, with the caveat that everything except what you stole disappears, and you have to fight greed.
This mod is very cool
I hope the creator keeps working on it.
Honestly this mod is amazing! As a DnD Player, i definitely see some characters being selectable for a class variant
For example
Samson - Barbarian
Bethany - Paladin
Azazel - Sorcerer
Eve - Druid
Lilith - Warlock
Eden - Bard (of Creation!)
Lazarus - Monk
Apollyon - Artificer
???, the lost and keeper, forgotten, etc could be monster inspired (Lich, Mimic, etc)

The glass cannon is really perfect for the wizard, they’re fragile as hell
If it got a full version for every character they're gonna have to start using dnd subclasses. could especially be interesting with the tainted counterparts like Tainted Maggie would be a war domain cleric, T!Cain would be an arcane trickster, T!Judas a bladesinger (T! judas is more melee oriented by default so giving him the melee wizard subclass makes sense) and T!Isaac a battlemaster with worse general stats but maneuvers that let him do unique stuff.
That or they could start grabbing from pathfinder like making Eve a kineticist (think elemental manipulation but it cost your health so perfect for Eve) or summoner for forgotten or Esau
Feel like if Cain’s the “thief”, his pocket should be able to collect items that are blocked off and/or activate panels as well without the need to stand on it
For Cain, they could give some adjustments. Make the damage -40% instead of -60% for starters, have the Slice pocket item be a secondary automatic attack like the Fighter's arrow and make a new Pocket item "Stealth" that lets him be undetectable for like 1.5 seconds or so for quick escapes and repositioning. Maybe let it add sneak attack damage for flavor, but may not be needed at that point.
For additional classes, Samson would be a shoe in for the Barbarian and his Tainted version is basically that. Maybe a pocket rage mechanic, where you turn it on for up to x time but get a stats down after until it refills? And during the rage, you swing a mace more often and take half damage if able.
Then there is Lilith as a Warlock, making her able to use Eldritch Blast and her familiar can run to the enemy and attempt to strike them if they stick, as a psuedo DOT effect. And for spells, extra strong but all giant mana costs to replicate their lack of spell slots.
Bethany would fit a Paladin well. A temp shield that acts like a Holy Shield but for the front half of Bethany and can take X amount of shots before breaking. And a pocket item for Lay On Hands, giving her full red health and, if red health is filled, a soul heart instead. Her attack can be a mace that can charge for a ranged attack, akin to Forgotten but light themed.
Great mod. Hope it will update. I'll wait for Samson as barbarian and Eve as Warlock
7:28 It seems like there is not only confusion effect with magical Judas tears, but also burning damage over time.
i have no idea where you got that from, while the mage hand effect was up the boss didnt take any poison/burn damage, only direct damage from projectiles. there WAS burn applied later, after the fire bolt was used to switch the effects

maybe if this mod does get an update, I really wanna see what all the other character's classes will be.
Cain is always done dirty with alt versions of himself
I’d like to see a mod that somehow allows tear replacing items to upgrade it. For example, in this mod, maybe the wizard starts with one random spell and tear replacing mods like brimstone don’t work but unlock another spell instead.
Just a thought. If you can’t use those items, they should still do SOMETHING

The rest of the characters also have canonical classes apparently, although I'm not sure about the Antibirth/Repentance characters.
I feel like cain probably could've gotten something better fitting than what he has currently. Maybe something to do with pickup manipulation, since that's his tainted theming and rogues are known for being resourceful and crafty (in both senses). Like, something that turns pickups on the ground into what you need most like glyph of balance, or bombs having additional effects for both utility and combat.

Ayo... this would make co-op actually more cool, sure it's only the first four but it's a pretty cool and cooperative concepts since it's ups and downs unlike "Isaac or different Isaac?"
What does the spell book do for Judas?
Also yes Cain needs a buff in this mod, maybe give him the ability to crit or reduce the cooldown on slice so he can actually deal with far targets and make the damage debuff not as big.

Lilith as a summoner would be a fun idea
D&D 5e nerd here; i think it could be fun if the Rogue could have additional damage against an enemy in some situations, like a Sneak Attack. i'm not sure how to replicate it faithfully in TBoI, but it would probably make up for the otherwise underwhelming damage stat and also push a certain playstyle. also, if people want to lean further into the Thief thing, there could be some chance for enemies to drop random consumables, with the consumables' "rarity" or whatever scaling with either enemy HP, the current floor, or something else. just throwing that out there :'3

Isaac: C tier
Maggy: A tier
Cain: F tier
Judas: S tier
Honestly the best character for orc class would be the forgotten

i think the mod would be better if brimstone and such didnt replace the dnd effects adn the thief could have a 25% chance to steal one item on sale on shop( it could be a heart or a item like steam sale, maybe the chance should be lower but this effect could only aply once per floor)
The wizard could be Tarnished Bethany.
I think Samson would be a barbarian, Bethany would be a paladin, Apollyon would be a sorcerer, Azazel would be a warlock
That leaves Lazarus, Eve, ???, Eden, Lost, Lilith, Keeper, Forgotten, and J&E for characters; Bard, druid, monk, ranger for classes (Artificer if you include Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything)
of course, there are subclasses; warlocks can have celestial patrons which is just cleric/paladin but Different

we just based them on edmund's original concepts, in which isaac was based on the dnd fighter
Honestly i dont like how they made the warrior and the rouge, every class has atleast 1 spell in the original dnd, maybe if they added like a berserk spell for the warrior that grants him a temporal damage boost and a shadow ability for the rouge that makes him invisible and grants the ability to backstab for a lot of damage, then it would be more balanced

You think? That's the entire point! High, consistent damage and armor, but no bells and whistles. The cleric and mages being more complex fits with DND as well- the nature of choosing spells requires this. And, the rouge is clearly the worst. Like usual in classic DND games. I see no problem here.
