You luckily don't die when the underwater breathing timer runs out, but it will force you upwards. This can be worked around by swapping character and swapping back again - That will give you a full bar again :)

Hey I got a question how do I reach level 50 every time I click the time memory lane quest it says I have not met the requirements to use it but I did I wasted 2 hours checking everything and everything is right is it a glitch? I’m stuck at level 49
you need to click on the piece in your inventory then talk to the black spirit if it doesn't work, it might be bugged and you need to be at lake kaia, to the west of calpheon to do it.
