Writer wants to say that Krishna character narrates to the People of India who is confused between who is saying right or wrong .But after watching this movie everything is clear. This movie is written so nicely and only 10% is shown of what actually had happened .Director Mr Vivek Agnihotri had taken interview of more then 600 kashmiri pandits family and did research for 4 years for this movie 🙏

yes and as jaby said that they showed very less violence/ speech wasnt bold enough from what he expected...itself contains the answer... WITH THIS MUCH ONLY LEFTISTS WERE AGITATED THAT THE MOVIE IS TAKING SIDES AND SPREADING HATRATE FOR "m community".... IN OUR COUNTRY WE CANT AFFORD TO TELL THE TRUTH WITHOUR FILTERING IT OTHERWISE IT LEADS 2 RIOTS WITHIN A FEW MOMENTS... IF THE MOVIE WOULDNT HAVE BEEN THIS MUCH SUPPORTED BY PEOPLE DEFINITELY IT WOULD HAVE BEEN "THE END" OF JUSTICE AND TRUTH
AND the thing about VFX and quality of production..let me tell u...it was made on budget of 15CR...producers couldnt afford to risk their money on such controversial topics in our country coz we have seen boycott ,failure of eye opener movies...it was courageous to put their money into this project...and it earned 150times...350 CR earning...hope this would inspire other projects to show truth ab8 other injustices

To me, the truly disturbing part of the movie wasn't the gore, the blood-soaked rice scene or the climax. It was the very beginning. We see Shiva, Krishna's brother, playing cricket with his friends while an India vs Pakistan match is being broadcast. Shiva then starts cheering for Sachin and then gets assaulted for it. More than the horror show that was to follow, this drove the message home for me. I used to be innocent and full of praise for Sachin once. I used to play Cricket with friends too. I had many normal days like that when we played a few matches and went home when the sun set. It felt disturbingly like a scene from my own life and the people who suffered felt like people I knew and greeted everyday. This is what makes the movie work: the realization that these people could've grown up and led lives like I basically took for granted as I grew up but this was stolen from them because of the people involved.

I am a Hindu, but I couldn't find the courage to watch this movie because of the feelings it leaves you with. It's so traumatizing that the oppressor becomes the victim in the media and calls for "azaadi." Finally, Article 370 is revoked, but nothing can make up for the pain the Kashmiri Pandits have gone through.

Girija Tikoo sawed alive was our relative. Getting married into a Kashmiri family - I was horrified to know these facts each day.
My husband (was my classmate at college) and my hostel roommates - all of them Kashmiris, never ever discussed the truth and what they went through . It was too painful to revisit maybe. Now after this movie is released they did talk about it. They are on the first step to healing.
Most of the Indians including me know the truth now - a 10 percent of it-but sadly there are still many denying that this happened to the KPs.

After Sardar Udham Singh, The Kashmir Files is ready to show the REALITY behind the exodus (NO NOT EXODUS, GENOCIDE). This movie is going to be known to set a benchmark for decades or more. A decade defining movie that is gonna make you have on tears coming from that heart's cry. The genocide which was concealed from the country by the government back then. It is definitely one of the best made movies in the WORLD in this genre. It really shows all that pain, sufferings, the whole scenario with transparency, without any social/biased filter. Here, everyone & everything got what he/she/it needed, what we call PERFECTION in words. Thanks to the director, Vivek Agnihotri, who has the dare and aptitude to show this stuff as it should be. When this movie ended, I knew that they hadn't showed all the atrocities and the level of brutality that had taken place. I then researched a bit and found that in reality, the mother "Sharda" was gangraped in her own house for several days and was forced to eat rice cooked with her husband's blood. And in the chainsaw scene, it was actually a teacher/lab assistant in a school in kashmir, who had later settled in jammu. She was called by her fellow coworker to come back to kashmir to collect her dues from the school. She was then kidnapped from those premises, brutally gangraped and later cut in half from the level of the abdomen with a manual saw.
This film has indeed tried to show the truth. But does not show the truth in it's entirety. And that is something you realize at the end. I hoped that they would have shown the complete truth but then realized that, this film may not have even passed by the film board, if they had done so.

Also, in case if you didn't understand the Kashmir issue- Kashmir was always a predominantly Hindu state. Its the same place where Alaxander had his war with Porus and his army forced him to return back to Greece. Kashmiri Pundits were the native population- all being scholars and highly versed teachers. At the rise of Islam and its subsequent conquest, Kashmiris were slaughtered and forcefully converted. This was done over and over until the Hindu population became a minority.
When the British ruled India, they were wrongly portrayed to be controlling the whole territory of Indian subcontinent. The British controlled most part of India directly, while the several small kingdoms were governed as ally states. One of those ally states was Kashmir- which enjoyed sovereignty throughout the British Raj. After the British divided the Indian subcontinent into one territory of India and two territories of Pakistan, the ally kingdoms were left to decide their fate. It was all up to the politicians now to negotiate and bring them into their country. 58 such kingdoms agreed to drop their monarchy and join the Indian territory, 3 disagreed: Kashmir, Junagarh and Heyderabad.
A plebiscite was held in Junagarh: the public voted in favour of India.
The Nizam of Heyderabad was house arrested and coaxed to sign the treaty.
And Kashmir- giving mixed results- the king (who was Hindu) wanting sovereignty- was left alone.
Soon the Pakistani army attacked Kashmir, seizing half of the territory (which is called P.O.K.). The Maharaja soon asked India's help upon which he signed a treaty. Now Kashmir became an autonomous state- it was free to manage its internal affairs according to it's own laws.
In 1971 India won the Indo-Pak war, thus taking away half of what was Pakistan. The East-Pakistan territory which is now the free country of Bangladesh was freed by India.
Pakistan, humiliated, instigaed terrorism and brainwashing acts among the majority Muslim community of the region. Before 1970s, Kashmir used to be India's biggest tourist destination. Dal Lake was picturised in many old Hindi movies. But after 1971 things began to change in a very slow pace. By the late 80s the public had begun to be hostile towards the minorities. This led to the D-Day- 19th Jan 1991- when the now trained local youth begun harassing, killing and raping the minorities at gun point. The local sentiment had overturned. These locals used to go to POK for military training and would come back as "armed rebels"; or what propagandists and hyper liberal leftists of today call them "misguided youth" lol.
Article 370 was the article in Indian constitution that gave Kashimr the right to remain an autonomous state. The Kashmiri politicians allowed the atrocities to happen under their very nose. The Indian government was helpless at the time as India was not supposed to meddle in Kashmir's "internal affairs", thanks to this article. India could only provide shelter, and so over 5,00,000 people became refugees in their own country.
In 2018, the Modi government scrapped and dissolved the article 370. The BJP had to play real hard politics to drag Kashmir into its own loophole of demands so its powers could be snatched away. Today Kashmir is a Union Territory of India- all its internal affairs are now handled by the Indian government- The Central Government at that. No more nasty politics. No more "lle me do what I want" shenanigans. India has had enough.

That cutting with the saw incident really happened to a women called Girija Tikoo, she was only 21 Years of age. She used to work as a lab assistant in Kashmir when she left her job and fled because of the torment and threats and took refuge in Jammu. She went back to Kashmir only to get her pending salary as she was much in need of it, with the assurance that the situation was much better and safe. The real incident was much more brutal..she was r*p*d and murdered by cutting with saw. The movie is a much toned down version of what happened.
To understand why such things happened in Kashmir we need to read and understand the shocking clauses in Article 370, how it provided immunity to terrorists in the state of Kashmir such that they could do brutal things and not be touched by Indian law, even as the Indian govt paid 5 time more money (Indian tax payers money) to maintain Kashmir than to any other state.
Abrogating Article 370 was on the election manifesto of the BJP since 1980s..even when they had only 2 members in the parliament. It continued to be on every election manifesto of the BJP since then...finally Modiji came to power in 2014 and in 2019 he won the election with BJP+Allies getting 353 seats in parliament. With requisite numbers, Article 370 was finally abrogated. Only PM Modi could do it as it was said that abrogation of Article 370 was such a dangerous and impossible task.

@jaby_Koay : thanks for your reaction. few points. 1) this movie is based on 100% true incidents that took place early 1991 (peaked then, the brutalities were there even before and after that as well). Pandit means Scholar, they are peace-loving, vegetarian, soft spoken and well-mannered community. At the time of India's Independence, Kashmir's King decided to stay separate (not joining India or Pak), but soon as some tribal terror groups and Pak Army attacked and tried to occupy Jammu and Kashmir, the King then requested help from India and India did. Indian political leadership right from Jawaharlal Nehru even after that too did not add J&K as India's inseparable part, yet allowed to continue separately by doing some constitutional amendment that is article 370 . Until Modi came to Power Article 370 gave separate alien ruling for the Indian state of J&K. The Chief Ministers of J&K like Shaikh Abdulla, his son Farooq, later his son Omar, Mufti Md Sayyed his daughter Mehbooba et al supported militancy and always encouraged separatism though they claimed when in Delhi (India's capital) that they were Indians. Modi & team abrogated this article 370 in Aug-2017, and to an extend, cleared the main issue.
In 1991, Kashmiri Pandits in the tune of half a million flew to various parts; mainly good no of them to Delhi (they are still in Delhi as kind of refugees, doing small jobs etc, no complaints). No political parties (except the ruling BJP) paid attention to the Pandits due to appeasing the so-called minorities (they were minority post Independence in the 1950s and 60s; now they are not ) based on vote-bank politics. Now there are schemes that the current Govt is trying to them back to the valleys and rehabilitate step by step yet not successful much. even now militants in J&K with support from Pak and other militant groups are killing few of the returned families as well.
JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) is a globally known institution in New Delhi, which is known for its political significance and stands etc. The communists (like Prof Radhika Menon), appeasing political parties etc still create wrong propaganda.
Young Krishna is the survivor along with his Grandpa (he was playing a drama as Lord Shiva with the blue paint on face at the time of the riot) and they lived in Delhi streets' small hut in a colony with other escaped Pundits; for fear of losing him OR not to let him slip to depression Grandpa hid the dreaded truth from him, and lived in hope that one day things will change for good, and they can get back to home land. Brahma Dutt was also a Pandit, he was Chief Secretary (prestigious IAS officer) who worked his best to protect the innocents all through, but in vein. All the scenes including cutting the lady into 2 are real, in fact not even 10% of the brutal realities, as mentioned by the movie director in some interviews. The files Brahma Dutt shows Krishna are Govt classified files of original incidents and investigation report, not media report. names and pics are different for movie sake, rest all truth. Anupam Kher himself is a Kashmiri Pandit, the movie director as well. Interestingly the Prof is the movie-director's wife in real life.

Every character in the movie is drawn from a story of a real person & stitched together to form this story.
The lady who was cut in a mechanical saw was “Girija Tikkoo” she was a school teacher, who was called by her muslim colleagues to collect her salary. She was then Gang Raped by 5men & cut into two halves.

    2) Lady was raped many times and then her body sawed off to dispose easier.
    3) People seeking refuge at a poet / writer house who thinks he is well-regarded, but ends up being killed nevertheless.
    4) Refusal to sell groceries on indian currency or outright refusal to give anything for any money.
    5) People lined up and shot dead. A little kid in said line-up left behind but specifically brought to focus and casually shot dead.
    6) The raliv, galiv, shaliv threatening slogans.
    7) Neighbours betraying. Especially the guy pointing the rice barrel as a hide out.
    8) The professor driving the college students on the convoluted revolution for freedom.

The director of Schindler's List (jews holocaust film) once said while receiving awards to ' teach this in schools, pls don't let this become a footnote in history ' , which is true even in india we read a whole chapter about how the holocaust was done, and even had a full year novel project in 10th grade on the book 'Diary of a young girl: Anne Frank'.
We learn so much about holocaust, yet are so ignorant about our own history.

Yes... Krishna Pandit's character resembles all those 70-80% of the youth which is born after 1989 and don't know much about the Kashmir's present situation, it's vulnerability, it's History and it's REAL TRUTH... It has been shown so nicely and identically... I'm glad they included this character...
And also... I'm so glad that they have shown a VERY important truth that included the newspaper clippings which says the truth of that time "Militants dressed as Army personnel killed them..........." Coz the separatist, misleading & hatred circulating people like female professor and also Pakistanis say that Indian army kills people there... (But it was them not the army at that time.... It was them who invited army supervision all over the area to prevent riots and another 19 January... And yes now whoever gets killed in an encounter is like that "Bitta", the terrorist, so please Pakistan, Shut the F*** up & Stop Funding & sympathizing these human killing machines just Bcoz you want our Kashmir...) It was a very good inclusion of it... Hats of to the details shown 🙌.... Yet it aches to see that it was all a true incident almost identical yet a bit muted enough so that people could really watch it.
    What a film 💯🤍😔🤞🏻
And for the part yess.... The name "ANU" has been taken from the JNU University (very well known and big University) and the center of student politics.... & answering your question, Yes the student politics here is very serious and a big event.... The character of the professor is also true and real

It shows the true nature of humans and how brutal they can get. Not saying that it has any relation to the topic at hand but it portrays humans in their true forms (especially the last 3 eps).

One suggestion. Whenever you're watching these kinds of Indian movies, it's better to keep someone with you at that time so he/she can provide you the actual facts related to that which is only known to and felt by Indians. Your review with those info inputs will be much appreciated by the audience. In this movie, there was too much to show in one movie that the storytelling had to be like this. Each incident that has been shown here has happened with different vital characters, but showing so many characters in one movie would have been more confusing, so they had to show everything in one family. The reporter, the minister each have a significant role in this story and are still in the current Indian politics. It's too hard to show all of these. Also, Sardar Udham and Milkha Singh were not about the internal conflict and were based on the impact of British colonization. So you can get a budget for that. But this topic is still so taboo that no one was interested in funding this movie. The director himself spent around 6-8 years taking real people testimonials and doing the movie himself. That's why the visuals are kind of cheap. Hope you see this comment and consider my suggestion. Thank you for spending your time and doing this watch along.

Not only that but in sardar udham there was 1 main event, which is easy to work around in a long movie. For bhaag milka bhaag, it’s a story of an athlete and there r many movies for directorial inspiration. In this move, events r very unique and characters had to be reduced/combined and a lot of creativity was required.

The director wanted it to be a theatrical release & tried to keep it suitable enough for older generations who aren't used to seeing violence & gore.....that's why he intentionally held back on depiction of violence & abuse
He felt that the story is heavy enough & he didn't need to make it seem heavier even though it would be closer to reality
He tried to keep it mild so that the families aren't too uncomfortable watching it together....that's why depictions of sexual violence were also skipped
Limited budget was also a reason as showing good violence requires good money, & the film was made at about 1.9 million USD, most of which went for the sets & location
Sardar Uddham had double of that budget
Most of the things that are negative about this project are bcoz of lack of budget & lack of support
This is more like an indie film instead of being a big film from the Hindi movie industry which Sardar Uddham was

And on the other hand the one more reality is that no government indeed wants to resettle them again in Kashmir, coz Kashmir not a heaven anymore - it's the living hell on the earth like Syria... In India it's very straight thing that being a poor and Hindu (non-Islamic) , a millions have to suffer a lot especially in getting justice, coz India is the land /home of Socialists...
