- In March every year, thousands of Eastern Bar-tailed godwit and other sea birds congregate in flocks at high tide roosts like this one at Miranda in the Firth of Thames, New Zealand.
These bar-tailed godwit are preparing for their annual migration to Alaska, only stopping off to refuel at the Yellow Sea, which lies between mainland China and the Korean peninsula.
They breed on upland and coastal tundra on the western rim of Alaska before their 11,680 kilometres (7,258 miles) non-stop return flight back to New Zealand around September.

I love these birds, every Spring they return to the surroundings of Amsterdam, 20 minutes on the bike from my home, Their call is the sound of spring to me, they allso have a colleage, the redshank, little fighter jets.
Absolutely Amazing ! Glory be to God... In addition to this bird astonishing migration ability, scientist have discovered that half of the bird brain sleeps while the other half is functioning and this continues to switch back and forth throughout it's journey. WOW !
teaMecca - Ali Yes!.. you look at these birds and you just KNOW there is a glorious and mighty God.
It is such an amazing migration
Holy Moly!!!
Nature’s beautiful. I understand that their organs shrink to accomodate more body fat before their huge flight back to Alaska
I love the designer/creator of that bird..... Jehovah God
