One of the best bikes ever built. And no, I'm not a BMW slave and I don't particularly like fat touring bikes. The only people who should be running this bike down are people who have ridden one, and you won't be finding many people doing that. ;-)

I would never get rid of my R1100RT but I can see where the newer R1200RT would be a pleasure to ride.

It's at the top of my list. Comfort, power, handling, fit & finish are all excellent. And oh that Boxer motor, love it. But the reliability issues and cost of ownership (e.g. $1,000 tune ups every 6K miles?) will probably keep me from ever owning one sadly.

I just paid $1,000 for the 15K mile service (oil, hydraulic fluids, final drive, plugs, valve clearance, etc.) on my Connie 14 so maybe I got some misinformation on the RT. Of course I'm in So. Cal. where everything is higher. We pay a $1 more for gas than anywhere else in the country too.
+oldmanwitherspoon I have a 2005 R1200 RT and my husband changes the fluids at home when he does his for his R1200 GT. Just took in my bike in for a recall for the rear wheel - it was in the shop for one hour. No charge. I love my bike and have travelled to SD, Napa Valley and Banff, Canada. Great ride.

Before you buy, go to your BMW dealership just before they open and hang out at the service department entrance. You will see bikes (1200 RT's & 1600 GT's) being dropped off for recalls, electrical issues and clunking sounds. Also be prepared to leave your bike for at least a week. Most service departments are backlogged and don't always have the parts needed in stock.
