The fact that Sitka's isn't considered one of the most tragic and noble Disney deaths is beyond me. I watched this film a lot as a kid and I was always so blown away that he didn't even hesitate, he just chose his brothers before himself and it's always stuck with me in a way that rarely any fictional death has, maybe because I'm the oldest sibling too, who knows. Parents sacrificing themselves for their children is always noble, but there's something else when it comes to siblings sacrificing their lives for each other.
For me it's that scene where Kenai realizes the monster is the one with the stick. Every time.
I too am the oldest of my family and I would do the same thing for my siblings
I am an only child, but this scene is one of most powerful scenes in this movie, and I realy love and admire Sitka for what he did, it never fails to make me cry my soul out... whole movie is about love, proof that love creates an unbreakable bond, just amaizing...
I am sorry if my english is bad, I'm not a native 🙈
When he said your mother isn't coming. That part gets me every time.
That entire scene with the song where he's telling the story "Koda.. I did something very wrong.." is still one of my favourite scenes in any disney movie.. it's so incredibly powerful
The scrap version version is even sadder shamed they putting in but the version with song over is still good
@@Jas-ii3fp I've heard people say this, I really like the version they put in the movie, I feel like it's because we already know what happened. For me I didn't need to hear the story again, the music and the key points in the story that Kenai tells Koda really hit me more than the scrapped version. It showcased more of the emotions of the characters than the words of the story. Music really brings out more emotion in me though so I guess that's why I like the final version so much.😊
I like how there was no "bad guy" in this movie. It's all about putting yourself into each other's shoes, even the "antagonist's" (Denahi and the bear at the beginning)
Le lanzó una piedra a un oso que no estaba haciendo nada para provocarlo y después matarlo eso te parece bueno
Amazing how a 2003 Disney movie can achieve something naughty dog only dreamed of
This movie is enough to make a grown man cry, and that's fine😢
@@isaywhateveriwantandyougot7421 ... Who ever said that... Youre the only one who even thoguht of that.

All he said is that is that ot makes grown men cry
which is factually correct.

Fun fact: when koda said “it’s Bucky, not binky!” That was koda’s voice actor actually correcting Joaquin Phoenix when Joaquin messed up calling Bucky “binky”. That wasn’t scripted but they decided to keep it in
Ohhh I never knew that, I LOVE when they keep unscripted lines/bloopers in the Final Cut
I love how in this movie they don't make a typical scene where koda learn the truth by hearing Kenai talk to someone else or something. Kenai actually sits with him and be honest, he learn the truth by Kenai himself
It’s also important because that’s the first time we see Kenai actually take accountability for his actions.
What's even more amazing about that scene is that Kenai didn't even make any excuses.
Yep, that was also probably it was a little easier for Koda to come back to Kenai and forgive him. He told the truth without making any excuses.
Better, the movie shows us them talking but we don't really hear them aside from a few lines. We see their emotions and that's enough
"You trusted me, believed in me and I let you down" that whole damn song man pass the tissues 😭
This movie is criminally underrated I don’t know why not so many people have seen it. I grew up with this movie watching it many many times
it's an incredible story and has amazing animation, but it's the songs and the goofy humor that turn people off. and I can't even blame them because I adore this movie but I'm cringing 30% of the time because of the annoyingness of some of the characters and kid humor.
@@Kicksno1fan I feel that. If they got rid of the moose, the rams and made the bear pack less cringy the movie would be a 10/10
I can understand Koda being cringe cuz he's a kid but he's overall a strong character and I wouldn't change him that much
@@Kicksno1fan I watched this movie in Dutch growing up and I'll tell ya, for me the moose, rams and other characters weren't that bad.
I watched this movie so many times as a wheel lad and it’s still a part of my childhood that I will never forget
I have a headcanon that Kenai's tribe forever revered or respected bears after this so that they don't accidentally hurt Kenai or his friends
That’s awesome!!
It’s like Secret of Rosin Inish where it was forbidden to harm a seal because of the selkies!!
That scene where Kenai tells Koda about his mom always gets me. It's absolutely heart breaking. Imagine being a child and hearing the person you see as your friend confess they killed your mom. Beautiful movie and severely underrated.
Maple: This year, I lost my dear husband Edgar.
Edgar: Quit telling everyone I'm dead!
Maple: Sometimes, I can still hear his voice!
😂😂🤣 gets me every time lol
I love how this movie was all about perspectives. You have to seen things from another’s POV. This movie was very powerful and a masterpiece, the sequel is nothing compared to this(my opinion. It’s an ok movie). I love the songs, the soundtracks, my god this movie was beautiful. I still cry no matter how much I age throughout the years.
The sequel is pretty good. It teaches that when you love someone else your willing to make sacrifices and changes to make your relationship work.
The sequel is aight, but this first movie gut punches me so hard the second could never beat it
I think what the sequel lacked was the surprise of Kenai turning into a bear. When Brother Bear came out, most of us probably thought of a movie where Kenai will be separated from his tribe and he will live amongst the bears as a human. What we didn't think about was him turning into an actual bear and was taking care of the cub of the bear that he has killed out of revenge.
I love both movies almost equally. I guess now as an adult I like the 1st a bit more, but the 2nd is pretty good, specially considering Disney most times screws up with sequels.
"Your mother isnt coming" kills me every. single. time. Im 22 and I always start crying. Its like thats when the reality of what Kenai did fully hits.
This movie shows that love is a powerful thing.
I think that this movie portrayed the concept of love better than frozen
19:19 How? Straight up, no lies. no sugar coating it. And I respect Kenai so much for it.
I know! I love him for that! I know I couldn't have the courage for that, but it was honestly so loving of him to tell Koda the truth like that
And finally he admitted that the monster was himself. Not because he was a man or a bear, but because he made bad decisions. Stopped blaming anyone else and started acknowledging his own mistakes.
Yess Cody!! I love this movie... Soundtrack immaculate Phill Collins doesn’t miss lol.
Hey Lakia! Thanks for watching! This movie was so moving it is crazy! and Phil Collins!
Fun fact Phil Collins singer of the song On My Way, the song Koda sings, does music from the Disney movie Tarzan, like Son of Man where A montage of Tarzan going from boy to man!!!
“He did look better as a bear.”
Why do *older brothers* -
Yeah kenai looks better as a bear than as a human like at this scene 4:36
When I was a kid I was so sad when Koda finds out about his mother's death. I just keep asking myself how can he forgive him after that, Koda has a big heart 😢😭💙
I grew up on this movie, but I don't know anyone else who has seen it! Dude, it's one of, if not the most underrated Disney movie!
Probably because a lot were just being born when this came out, or were too young to remember it.
Just think, someone born in 2003 is now a legal adult and probably finishing High School, and if they were a toddler, they’re now a young adult.
So glad you watched this, it has some really beautiful scenes and damn it can bring you to tears a couple of times 😭
I feel so bad for Denahi during it, it's understandable how obsessed he become when he though he lost BOTH his brothers in one day 😔
Damn i cry legit EVERYTIME when he tells him "your mother won't coming back"
One of the most saddest scenes in a Disney film. Joaquin Phoenix was phenomenal in this scene with his emotions and this film feels somewhat inspired by Joaquin’s real life experience of losing his brother that was young Indiana Jones in Last Crusade to an overdose I believe. Don’t ever take your loved ones for granted cause life is unpredictable.
One of my childhood films. Couldn’t stop laughing whenever the Canadian Moose were onscreen 😂
Not just Canadian Moose. This was a pair from a show called SCTV in the 1980's (Canada's answer to Saturday Night Live). It was a sequence called "The Great White North" and Rick Moranis (dad in "Honey I Shrunk the Kids) and Dave Thomas were the two characters, and they provided the voices for the moose. Search for it; it's classic!
A bear is fitting for love considering how protective mother bears are
I was 10 years old in 2003, it makes me feel old.
I think Tanana knows it's Kenaï because she can communicate with spirits so they (or only Sitka's spirit) told her.
You know, now I'm older I think it's not surprising to learn the bear was a female and a mom because females can be very agressive when their children are in danger.
Fun fact, Koda's painting in the bloopers is a part of a real one makes only with little colours points.
This movie is so beautiful. The soundtrack, the story, everything about it. And no matter how many times I watch it, I cry every time again.
Also, I wanted to thank you, that you also showed your reaction to the end credits. They are so funny^^
This movie honestly hits me hard these days when koda found out about his mom I know that feeling all to well. Despite how long it’s been sense I lost my mom as a kid but even now part of me thinks what if she walked in if it was all just a lie. But
Hey man this is an old comment but i just wanted to check in and say im sorry for your loss. Its always tough losing a parent and i hope youre doing well despite it. Good vibes are coming your way
This movie was one of a few that I always replayed when I was a kid on VHS. My favorite scene being the transformation, and the part where Koda hears Kenai's story always gets me. That said, Brother Bear 2 is a great sequel.
still blows my mind that joaquin phoenix stars in this, also super excited for the spirit review, it was my childhood OBSESSION xD
Fun fact Phil Collins is the singer of on My Way, The one Koda is singing. He also has done music for Disney, Phil Collins has done many music for Tarzan, The song called Son Of Man a montage in the cartoon of Tarzan growing up from boy to man!!!
He also sings Two Worlds (beginning of the movie) and Strangers Like Me in Tarzan, if I remember correctly. I absolutely love his Disney songs. You can also find his version of Great Spirits, You'll be in my heart (from Tarzan) and extended version of No Way out (this sad song in Brother Bear)
I love the native representation as a indigenous person myself
@Gabrielle Braswell yup! Every good “masterpiece” will have its flaws, and some flawed movies will be masterpieces, yk?
@@isaywhateveriwantandyougot7421 I know why and what kind of hate it gets, cliche storyline and writing issues, I’ve watched videos about it don’t worry ^^;; despite that this movie stick is dear to me
honestly one of the most underrated animated movies, this movie is one of the few "kid movies" that'll bring me to tears, the soundtrack is amazing, the animation is great, the plot is perfect, it just all comes together perfectly, really a gem of a movie that I suggest everyone watches
Joaquin Phoenix who voiced Kenai had also lost a brother
This is truly my favorite Disney movie and I think the message is one everyone could take note from.. especially now more than ever. Not only should you respect other species, but other humans too. We are all intertwined together on this planet, and our actions can impact another. To fully understand, we have to take in the perspective of another.. and try to see thru others eyes before passing a judgement or making an action that may harm them.
I have been waiting for this and I am so glad you watched this. It still makes me cry when Kenai tells Koda that his mom isn't coming😭
OMG, This was my favorite movie growing up!!!! One of my favorite things was the fact that the song transformation is in the Iñupiat language! Its so underrated. Also one of the few movies that featured some native representation, which makes it even better!
BB was my favourite film of all time as a child and as an adult I am blown away at how underrated this movie is. It is a GREAT injustice!
This movie will always hold a special place in my heart. I have just adored this movie since I first saw it as a child. It's so heart wrenching, beautiful and powerful. ❤ I'm so glad you watched this, and I can't wait for Spirit next week!
Both of my grandpas were referred by muskwa which in my native Cree language means bear . This movie is so home like for me in Canada Alberta 🇨🇦👌
At last one who can react to this with clear eye, I totally loved your reaction. Brother bear is my first disney movie and I always thought that Brother bear is critically underrated. Thank you my love
I loved that this movie was aimed more towards teaching boys that it's OK to show love.
GOD I love this movie so much. It’s definitely my favorite movie of all time. When I was younger, I watched it so often that I memorized the whole thing. I could recite it word for word any time.
Every single time Kenai tells Koda about his mom I cry. And then I cry again when Koda and his mom's spirit meet on the mountain
BROTHER BEAAAAR IS HEREEE!!! My whole childhood, such a beautiful story & soundtrack, a Masterpiece!! Yeeahs Cody, i'm so happy you enjoyed it!! 💗✨
YES, ANOTHER PERSON WATCHING THIS MOVIE, THIS IS WHAT I NEED
Hi Cody! Love your reactions! Brother Bear is one of the most underrated Disney movies, and I am so happy that you reacted to it! I have a fun fact for you since you loved the soundtrack for the movie. The song that plays when Kenai transforms into the bear is sung with Inuit lyrics. The translation to it basically means that Kenai will understand why they are doing it. "Everything will become clear to you
...When you see things through another's eyes...Everything will become clear to you....Whatever's meant for you, you will find".
This is one of the most emotional disney movies, I feel like it's underrated.
Cody: *starts crying*
Me: ME TOO BRO!!!
My mom and sister used to watch this movie so many times, they took the time to write down all the song lyrics so they could learn them. I tried watching this movie again in english, but I couldn't sing any of the songs so I just watched it in my language again instead.
My sister and I have this tradition where one of us just randomly starts singing On My Way, and the other joins in and then we just sing. This movie was a large part of my childhood, and seeing other people appreciate it as much as I do brings me so much joy
This is a criminally underrated film. The message, the love, and the humour are all on true prominence here. I especially love the the two moose, mainly because they're the stereotypical Canadians, and as a Canadian, I laugh at the fun-poking they do.
*Me:* /sees title/ Oh Brother Bear
*Me:* /after seeing first few secs of vid/ I forgot how beautiful this movie is
This is one of my all time fav movies! I used to watch it everyday when I was little and I watched it a good 3 times last week, honestly the story the animation and the music is just so beautiful and meaningful to me
my favourite Disney movie for sure, and, probably,my favourite soundtrack from one of them, and not surprisingly,my favourite scene is since the icy waterfall to when the aurora goes back into the sky, that Bulgarian song is SO GOOD,and then, another part that I love is when Koda recognizes Kenai in human form and they start hugging, gives me goosebumps and tears all the time because you can tell that they are apologizing and forgiving each other for everything, especially Kenai,a powerful moment even if neither say a word
Brother Bear is my favorite Disney movie and I it is awesome to see you react to it, because it isn't that popular. I don't see that many reactions to this movie. The message this movie has is so powerful and beautiful, same with the music and the animation. I do not recommend the direct to DVD sequel it is not as good. You are awesome and thank you for all that you do.
I remember watching this movie as a little girl and I honestly still remember how it made me value love for not only my family but my friends as well. Now that I'm not only in my 20s but also the oldest sister of three I now understand everything Sitka did for his brothers in watching over them and making sure they went the correct path, especially Kenai in his path for vengeance to a mother bear who we see was just protecting her cub Koda.
The Canadian accents on the moose kill me every time
As a kid, I found the scene when the spirits dance and transform Kenai to be so mesmerizing. One of my many inspirations to animate.
And to this day that twist still breaks my heart! Ack!
This is one of my boyfriend's favourite Disney films. It really is lovely and quite a tear jerker in spots.
Me: I'm a stone cold writer that feeds off character suffering!
When Cody starts crying: Oh NOOOOO, Cody! You can't do this to me again! 😭
An amazing, underrated, classic gem of a movie. Whenever it played on Disney channel back then, I would get so excited, It’s an all-time favorite of mine.
Such a beautifull movie and another underrated classic from 2000's like meet the Robinsons and Bolt
I love that you included your reaction to the scenes in the credits. The whole movie is a masterpiece and those scenes are the cherry on top :)
5:17 Remember Kenai is voiced by Joaquin Phoenix who, when he was 19, saw his older brother River Phoenix collapse and start having seizures outside the club known as 'The Viper Room' as a result of a drug overdose. No one else inside or outside the club called an ambulance for a full five minutes after River collapsed so Joaquin had to make the call. Their sister Rain was with them as well. Rumour has it that half of this scene was cut because Joaquin got so upset while recording it the director thought it might upset the children watching the movie.
This has to be the best movie i've seen. Ever. I'm not much a movie lover but I will say yes to this movie every time. It gives such a pure reflection on so many things wrong in this world, there hasn't been a single time i havent had tears in my eye somewhere in this movie, even after watching it 5-10 times.

He didn't know it was Kenai. He thought it was the same bear that killed sikka and kenai.
"I just want to go there and give him a hug 🥺"
How pure
Me too buddy, me too 😪💔
Great reaction! Especially love that you also watched the little snippets in the ending credits. I always laugh at the part where they were playing with their reflection in the ice and then a "normal" looking bear appears! XD
I, as a brother, never cried for this movie until I was older and have learned to let so much love into my heart for my brothers
And OMG, Spirit is coming next!!! Another masterpiece!!! I am so excited!! 🛐💗
Thank you and all the UA-camrs that are discovering the sheer amazingness that is Brother Bear and hopefully Disney takes note and does much more with it ❤️🙏
I named my black pitbull puppy kenai , and later my brown cat koda, kenai passed later :( so this movie means alot to me.
I just love all three of the brothers names
This movie is so underated, i love it so much, everything is perfect and the soundtrack really makes you get even more in your feelings
I swear, everytime I watch this movie and reactions to it, I always start crying when he tells Koda how he killed his mom and when she sees Koda for a short time at the very end of the movie as a spirit. My mother passed in 2018 when she was 42 and I was 26 so it hits harder.
I ask myself why I haven’t I watched this movie? Now I see it is one of the more emotional Disney movies I watched because of that brother aspect that I love as I have a cousin that is the little brother I’ve always wanted.
My absolute favorite Disney movie ever. I know every single line by heart (at least in German) and I'm so sad that it's so underrated. Thanks for doing this reaction Cody!
I remember crying to the audiobook when i was young. I had it on cassett. Damn thats old:D
I never cried and been so happy in a movie
I cried all over again, really deserves to be one of my favorite movies 🥰
This is one of my favorite animated movies, enjoyed seeing it again. Yes, the soundtrack for this movie is awesome.
Sitka’s sacrifice definitely shows us that Sacrifices sometimes have to be done for the greater good
The bears riding the mammoths is like Boog from Open Season riding Manfred from Ice Age.
This is one of those disney movie classics you show your kid to show them life lessons.
You should see the sequel: That's where Kenai reconnects with an old friend from his past.
Unfortunately, I like many found the sequel underwhelming.
Music by Melissa Etheridge was good, but I felt by it not having Tanana, Denahi, Sitka, or even Koda’s mom it really lacked something.
It also was very slow at times.
This movie hits harder when you know Joaquin's story with his own brother River.
I wait to see what you think of the orginal Spirit the horse movie. Anyway this movie teaches about the importance of responsibility, what it means to be an adult, what it means to be family whether through blood or other means, that vengeance is never good, and sometimes it is good to see this through another's eyes. Because there are two sides to every story. Might I suggest watching Brother Bear 2? It is an excellent sequel. Phil Collins wrote all the songs in the score for the movie. One more thing, this movie teaches is that things are not always what they seem. And the change in aspect ratio was to show Kenai starting to get a clearer understanding of life be it his or that of animals.
An underrated emotional Disney gem, I watched this movie a lot when I was a kid and it made me appreciate different cultures of the world outside our own 💕🐻
many thanks for putting this reaction on youtube! it's really a very beautiful movie and i really love the story and how it's all about perspective! great to see you getting emotional with this, love you and your reactions ^^

the changing a.r. represents his change of vision from his narrow view of the world(1:85:1) to fully seeing the beauty of the world(2:35:1). the changing a.r. is used in a lot of movies, at least 50 that i found listed but there may be more.
This is literally one of the best Disney movies they ever made in the 2000s plus I Love Phil Collins song take a look through my eyes it was it was awesome.
When they were making this, Disney bumped up their deadline by six months. So it could have been a bit more polished with more time. It was at the end of Disney's hand-drawn era, and in my opinion, they were actively trying sabotage their last few hand-drawn features, to give the studio the excuse they wanted to ditch traditional animation and go to full CGI. It was a sad time. The current CGI movies are awesome, but an art form has been pretty much abandoned, and we will never see the level of skill and artistry of the traditional hand-drawn movies again.
This movie has both the moments in cinema i remember as the funniest and the most heart breaking in my child brain.
Forever beloved Disney movie of mine
"The most beautiful movie I have seen". If you disclude Spirited Away... I agree.
