So I immediately concluded that the whole book was written by someone who wasn't paying attention in elementary school science class. This can result in water up to 30 ft deep. I have a friend who worked in Mobile and Louisiana after the big hurricane there a few years ago and he described a line of debris about 27 ft up in the trees. Why is this different from what he's describing? Because he is describing the depth of the water without the waves on top of that water.
How good is this guy. He explains these nuanced ideas in a way that an elementary school kid could probably understand. If only there was a way to explain complex ideas like this to MAGA...

I know that when traveling over land,hurricanes tend to decrease in speed and intensity as they’re empty onto the land. Taking into considering its size and speed, how could it have possibly retained THAT MUCH water to dump down on Western North Carolina? Is a hurricane’s dew point affected by its centripetal force.

Secondly, the NOAA have a trouble-fixation, "It's going to hit Tampa head-on" and having nailed that colour to the mast, are clinging to it with all their might. It's too early to say for sure, but the first hint was when they added the hurricane warning to Lake Okeechobee yesterday. Now the flood zones are drifting southward. It may still hit Tampa, but a side-swipe can be worse than the eye.
So sorry for folks in Florida. Hope De Santis and Speaker Johnson will drop the politics and work with the federal government to get hurricane help to these people. I mean for God's sake, these are mostly conservative voters. What are governor DeSantis and speaker Johnson thinking???
