I felt this video 100%. Someone close to me can't communicate their feelings, desires, concerns with me, and it's very frustrating. Like you said, I'm totally fine with whatever they want. If they feel misunderstood, talk to me about it - i wont be upset. If they want something, share that desire with me so I can help them achieve it. If im doing something to bother them, tell me so i can be more mindful... But for whatever reason they just cant communicate.
Don't let it get to you, there's only so much you can do. Communication is a two way street and both parties need to participate for it to be effective.

Some years ago, there was a study done by the Australian Army, about the benefits of stretching. Bottom line? Regarding activity-related injuries, they found that stretching was far more important and beneficial AFTER exercising than it was PRIOR to exercising. Don't know if it's true or not, but that's what the Aussies found out. And about negative thoughts creeping into your psyche - "Be indifferent to what makes no difference." Marcus Aurelius. Be well, stay safe.

You should warm up before any stretching, even if it's just a few jumping jacks. Exercise warms you up of course and stretches you some, so perhaps the argument here is that if you stretch afterwards you can extend the stretching you've already done. You still need to warm up and stretch before exercise but it doesn't have to be forceful, just something to loosen up.

Local New Hampshire resident. I have no clue where you are in real time. The trail through New Hampshire is still full of snow. You are going to be hiking in really crappy conditions. Baxter isn’t even open yet. They usually open by mid June. Slow down or you’re going to have to wait until Baxter opens and clears the Hunt Trail (AT) for use.

Stella, I would encourage you to consider replacing your shoes. When running, after about 300 miles, the cushioning breaks down and that can often lead to knee problems. It may be contributing to your knee pain.

Don’t try to fight against Mother Nature because you can’t win. Let the weather and trail conditions decide how far you get in a days hike. Having goals is fine as long as they’re flexible. In the Whites especially, weather is very important to keep track of.

You’re doing great! It’s good to remind yourself that everything is temporary, including frustration, disappointment, and loneliness. Without them we will never be able to appreciate the highs. Also, 10 fast rounds of sun salutations (within 5 min) after coffee in the morning and 10 min before bedtime will do wonders to your body….you will also sleep like a log. And when you wake up your body will be supple. I had knee problems for a whole year and nothing seemed to work. Then somebody told me of this routine and I’ve not had any problems since.

Coyote, back from Westeros, had to go to Todd’s old apartment to find the stash of cash hidden in the refrigerator. Cut him some slack. Communicating is hard when you’re on the lam and using burner phones. He’s also busy crossing over into different universes (GoT, BB). Talk about big miles!
Coyote lets his walking do the talking. He’s old school. No selfies, no social media, no text messages. You don’t find Coyote, he finds you.

@@frolege1 I’m an artificial intelligence hikingbot commenter, programmed to narrate Stella’s hike with the voice of Morgan Freeman’s folksy wisdom and connect her hike to HBO’s Game of Thrones universe as part of a pitch for Stella’s own reality tv spinoff where she hikes across Westeros in search of big miles, love, and veggie burgers. On her way across the Westerosi Trail, she joins up with a tramily of riff raff hiker trash wildlings. Coyote, leader of House Coyote, formed the tramily to battle for Winterfell and seize control against House Stark, their mortal enemies. Coyotes vs Direwolves. Stella will be at the center of a love triangle involving Jon Snow and Coyote’s older brother, Frank. Frank is an accountant with a heart of gold and passion for hiking. Jon Snow has superior fighting skills, but Frank really knows how to reconcile debits and credits, and can hike big miles. His pack weight is 4 pounds, which Stella finds very sexy. Stella’s only way out of the love triangle is to hike big miles to Dorn and think about which suitor to be with. She’ll post daily vlogs about her adventures and whether she should go with Jon Snow, the Mad Queen killer and protector of the Realm, or Frank, the ultralight accountant.

Just remember if they don’t communicate their wants you don’t have to try to figure them out, but you can also communicate and ask too to have a better piece of mind. Something as small as “have you had any trouble with hiker bubbles this year?” And if he says “actually I prefer to hike with people”. Then you can feel comfortable my luck he’d just say “no” 🤣 You may want to start off by stretching 3x a day. Once by morning before hiking, before lunch and before bed. When I was in gymnastics it helped a lot Might help hiking too.❤

You sparked a memory when u showed a pic of Catamount Motel. When hiking the AT96, I stayed at an old style motel in Bennington & believe it was the Catamount but I will always remember that stop in Bennington. I was half asleep watching TV and same the news of this happening: The Centennial Olympic Park bombing was a domestic terrorist pipe bombing attack on Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 27, 1996, during the Summer Olympics. The amazing thing is that I was also on PCT01 near Mt Rainier when the the 9-11 bombing took place. I remember that another hiker, Tony Nitz aka Prehistoric Tony, & I were told about the bombing by a back country ranger on horseback, at that moment we realized that we had not heard an airplane ALL day. I still envision hiking the CDT but I sure don’t want to witness another terrorist attack while on trail. Enjoy the rest of ur hike..

FUN - what to do for fun on a tortuous thru hike - good question. I have not heard you mention any listening activity, so I would recommend listening to music, audiobook, or podcast, all of which are very subjective. For music I’m gonna recommend Beach House (that’s the name of the group), for a book I’m gonna recommend a classic, not a hiking book, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” As for podcast, I’ll say “This American Life”. nothing about mental challenges, no hiking experiences, but something other than what you are currently enmeshed in. Otherwise, get a good high cocoa content chocolate bar.

Stella, hi what and when do you eat during a hiking day? What do you have in your pack now? Did you get rid of anything? What electrolytes do you use? Thank you. 😊enjoy the trek!

I know these videos are a week or more old, so I hope you are alright wherever you are. You seemed fatigued today, which is understandable. Also, you scared me when it looked like you might slip at that wet spot. I thought we were going to witness a horrible accident. I hope you stay safe!

Do you take any vitamins or supplements while on trail? Turmeric would definitely help the knees.

How about making up some ditties and singing them for fun? I know a couple that tries to do this every day on the trail. It's pretty silly. Or coming up with a dance routine with clips from different parts of the AT (google Jungle Drum Iceland for a fun tourism video + lots of other people who made their own version).

Bad Bat has done a couple things like that, really fun. I have a few tunes I'm memorized and sing 'em when I'm out and I don't think anyone's around.

Thanks for the beautiful views and your most interesting commentary. For body conditioning, all you said is important. However, proper nutrition is a must too. With a strenuous activity like a long hike, the body needs foods high in fats and carbs and protein. Stay away from sugar. While I steer more to vegan food, I am not a vegan. I don’t eat red meat. But, I will eat chicken and fish. I consider myself in good shape. Although, when my body is feeling down, I will either eat the vegetable based Garden of Life protein bar or drink a glass of Ka’chava( organic powdered mix of all types vegetables). For me, that is a feel good blast for my body. As part of communicating, after watching your videos for at least 50 days, I noticed, when you have concerns you smile less, look down more, you look away from the camera and your eyes have a distant look. Sorry you feel lonely. You are not alone.
Funny. Until football season, fun for me is a long hike, a movie, or a good book. If you want off the wall excitement, try a karaoke bar and sing a song. Be well. Wishing you happiness and fair weather ahead. Happy Trails!

Maybe stop and soak your knees in one of those cold streams? I just hate knee pain on the trail. Btw, I heard of your vlog from Nahampsha when she had dogs following her! I am hoping you can do a section together 😊

Put a blanket under your knees when you do cat and cow stretch. Try doing some really deep squats to open up your hips. Keep on keeping on. Listen to your body.

Sorry you do not have a reliable hiking partner.A good partner would stay with you no matter what.Think about all the hikers from decades ago, they had no cell
phones, only a little am radio.
