@@sindyiathakur5507 Yep it's definitely important to know but I don't think it was anyway her doing (and she shouldn't get backlash for it). She seemed to have no idea of what she was actually picking in the video. If anyone should be getting controversy about the choker it shouldn't be emma, but Cartier that brought it out in the first place without thinking about it's origins.
8:24 The necklace she is talking about was created by Cartier for a man named Maharaja of Patiala or the king of the kings in India. It has a very dark piece of history behind it and I would really like if that piece of jewelry was given proper credit
And that’s how we pressure young people to overachieve: look, she’s only 20! Meanwhile my career and I: (nothing much). It should not really matter how old you are, 20 or 50, some of us get really lucky to get famous, and that’s ok.
Let's get a history lesson that should have been given in this video. In 1928, the Maharaja of Patiala decided to turn his De Beers diamond, the world's seventh-largest diamond, into a choker. He commissioned Cartier to make the necklace. The necklace mysteriously disappeared after his son Maharaja Yadavindra Singh last wore it in 1948. It was recovered half a century later by Cartier representative Eric Nussbaum in London. However, it was a skeleton of its former self. It no longer had the De Beers stone and most of its Burmese rubies. So Cartier set about restoring the necklace sans the De Beers and other original stones. Basically it is a stolen Indian choker which would have been worth 30 million had it's main centre piece diamond not been taken.
