      I think that it may help retention if you show more of your face whilst interacting with the mechanics. Not sure how feasible it is. Only hands, like This Old Tony, would need really engaging editing I suspect.

    The people calming it is only for “heating problems” do not actually know how gatling/ motorized gatling guns work.
    I do like the fact that you took your time to explain in detail how your machine works and how it uses actual firearm mechanics/techniques to make a dart gun that not only looks cool but actually works

    Great explanation of the mechanism. I didn't know that you use a cam to prime the plunger but it totally makes sense if you are priming multiple plungers in one cycle (taking account the energy efficiency and the load).
    Also the laughter while shooting the thing is only surpaced by the "mad scientist" laughter during making and testing it.

    the rotating barrels, the delinking chain and casings are my favorite part about this blaster! its really cool, something i always wanted to make, plus there are benefits to casings such as making a chain as long as you like and keeping the ammo intact, thats probably why i havent seen gatling guns yet due to the nature of the darts, when i first saw your moab i was blown away! i knew it was possible but you made the first step, i do hope to make one eventually ^^

    • @gatlingtommy
      @gatlingtommy  5 місяців тому +2

      That’s a good question. I think getting into a cad tool, experimenting until you have the first iteration of something you think makes sense and then trying an 3d printer to test out the design, would be a good start. This is the way I went, and the design mainly iterated and improved by printing parts and testing if the mechanics make sense.
      But I am also a studied engineer, not a mechanical but electronics, software and general stuff… so if it’s about the basic theory and so on I don’t know what to recommend (I am less a theoretical guy more an experimenting one)

  • @howlingbeats2544
    @howlingbeats2544 4 місяці тому

    Love how the people whose comments you showed, talk about how the rotating barrels are just for cooling on the M134, which is just factually incorrect. By distributing the work needed for cycling the action among multiple barrels, the rate of fire is greatly increased. Additionally, with multiple barrels and mechanisms, the mechanical wear is also spread out, so barrels need replacing less often.
    P.S. People of the internet, don't talk about things you don't know anything about.

    Can you talk about why you chose to use full instead of half length darts, and if it would be possible to convert?

    • @gatlingtommy
      @gatlingtommy  4 місяці тому

      Well I think it was mainly convenience, I had only full length darts (and maybe even didn’t thought about half length darts/didn’t know of them at that time), one reason k didn’t switch was, because then the belt would have looked weird, from the proportions (each shell wide but short).
      Switching to half length darts would cost quite some redesigning, not sure if it is worth it. What would the benefit of using half length darts be?

    • @Klipik12
      @Klipik12 4 місяці тому

      @@gatlingtommy mainly usability for customers, since most nerf hobbyists willing to spend that much on a blaster use exclusively half length darts nowadays. Half darts are also generally more accurate.

    In real life guns, the multiple barrels is there so each barrel only fires 1/6th (or 1/7th or 1/8th etc) of the bullets, and thus overheats 6 (or more) times slower
    In this, Since it's a pnuematic system, the barrels need time to reset, more so than a typical gun as there's no propellant to blast the pieces back into place. Heating may also be an issue to some extent, but for pure burst firerate the reset time of each barrel is the real bottleneck

    • @gatlingtommy
      @gatlingtommy  5 місяців тому +1

      On the real minigun and mine the pieces are not blown back but moved back by that „reversed cylindrical cam“. The time it needs for that is not fixed, it depends on the rotation wpeed. Sadly there are still limits to the rotation speed…
