2:17 Isn't it possible with most plug-ins to route the individual drums to individual outputs? I use Ableton's Drum Rack and there it's super easy because it's part of the DAW, but as far as I remember, you can also route your drums to individual tracks in Native Instruments' Battery.
So, Logic’s DrumMachine plugin is VERY WEIRD. I didn’t realize this until very recently, but it has a lot of really weird routing happening in the background. They got better about it more recently and run some of the samples just through the sampler, and the drum machine gui acts like a wrapper for the sampler plugin, but a lot of the stuff they originally had running through drum machine was a sample, running through the drumbeat synthesizer (it’s like a very strange synth from like back in 2005 ish, it’s old) and drumbeat would add all these affects and what not, then it would run through drummachine and when you load up a drummachine it routes like 10 busses all by itself with tons of effects in each bus and if you don’t change anything it just sucks CPU because it’s doing so much. Essentially they tried to do everything for the end user, but honestly setting everything up one at a time is much better. No, drum machine is terrible ha. Funny enough, the artist Disclosure uses the Drum beat synth, so it’s possible to do cool stuff with Drum Beat, but Drum Machine is just a weird wrapper. It’s what causes most people’s CPU overload problems.
Oh and I have to add, each sample that ran through drum beat into drummachine was loading up an entirely new instance of the drum beat synth. Sooooo…. like 20 samples to make a kit in Drum Machine (1 plugin sort of) would have 20 seperate drumbeat synths loaded in just that one instance of drummachine, and if you don’t know that, you have no idea that 1 Channel Strip has 20 synths trying to run through it.
Dude I think after watching this video I am done with Logic’s drummachine au. It sucks cpu so hard and I never have the versatility like this to do exactly what I want without it running through so much other crap first. Maybe that’s why I hear a lot of peoples tracks from logic (including mine) and the drums just sound flat and terrible.
