    Yes, Chinook is a type of salmon, quite tasty actually, but it is also the name of strong downslope winds common in Southern Alberta. The air warms and increases in velocity with downslope compression. These winds also occur in coastal regions of Southern California, where they are called Santa Anna Winds.

    Wow terrible explanation of Chinook wind! A chinook is how the temperature in Calgary (east of the Rockies) can go from -40C to +15C in a few hours. Commonly heard in Calgary - “oh, a chinook’s come through.” I experienced this once attending my cousin’s wedding in late January - triggered a mild migraine for me unfortunately. Probably a term only commonly known in Alberta.

    THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THE JAYS SUCK!! Too much time making commercials for smuckers jam or anw burgers or stuff like this video when they should be focused on getting better at the plate and on the field. It's crazy they make millions of dollars and sponsorships to play a game they love and put out such a garbage effort. They don't even care, there biggest names don't even have 15 home runs. The broadcasters have to make up excuses as to why they just keep putting out garbage game after garbage game. This comment needs to be read and heard because it's the truth and exactly why i did it on this video on the blue jays channel. Drives me nuts I've been alive and seen them win BACK 2 BACK WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS and this was not nearly an issues like it is now with all this wanting to be actors in commercials or whatever. Let's get back to that greatness and focus on what really matters and that's playing good competitive baseball. p.s fire JS and get a real exp major league coach that really knows what there doing, ok rant over!!!

    • @SonnyMontanaDBD
      @SonnyMontanaDBD 2 місяці тому

      @@natalievargo7625 i didn't realize that but it doesn't honestly matter, knowing how bad the team has been for years now and they have still been doing these types of things. In the off season they should be working on things that are lacking in skill making them better, not trying to be actors. Earning there money, giving the loyal and supportive fan base that pays pays a ticket or watches them at home or road trips to the city they are playing in the best out of them. When I look at the teams from this year and previous teams since this vladdy bo era it's been a real joke. Any tuns of commercials or ads. If that happend back when they were a winning franchise it's because they were a winning franchise. I like the jays I'm from Toronto but us as fans deserve a hell of a lot more from them. Everytime I see a commercial with George Springer in it, it just drives me nuts and then see him on the field striking out in a row in a bat after at bat. it's just crazy to me.

    A "Toque" is a chef's hat, sometimes pronounced "toke" or "tuque", depending on if you're French, Spanish, or Italian. I have always preferred the uniquely Canadian spelling of "touque" to describe the winter hat.
    You probably wouldn't know what Chinook is unless you were from Western Canada and close to the Rockies, so I'm not surprised that Jordy didn't know it, being from Markham. Bassitt was also correct though, it IS a fish, and a Canadian one; Chinook is another word for King Salmon, and I would say the more common name for the fish on the Canadian west coast... the largest species of Pacific salmon. Excellent eating fish.

    • @leecox6241
      @leecox6241 2 місяці тому

      The french tuque was the original name then the English got a hold of it and changed it to toque which sounds crappy.

    • @morganchilds9054
      @morganchilds9054 2 місяці тому

      The French "tuque" as you're citing it means a chef's hat, not a winter hat. "Touque" is the only spelling that means, unequivocally, a warm winter hat in Canada, whether you're in Quebec City or Whitehorse.

  • @qualicumwilson5168

    The real origins is that "Chinook" was/IS an Esperanto type language used for trade/ socializing. The Native languages were extremely different. Very basic words and pronounceable by most tribes. Proof? Virtually all native tribe names basically said "The People". Of Interest is that some words of Chinook are still used today on the West Coast of Canada. "skookum" means big or strong (that's a skookum boat), "Chuck" means water (i.e Salt Chuck). Chinook Salmon (AKA "Kings" in USA and "Springs" in Canada. Wawa is "language" as in Chinook Wawa? (Do you speak language). Other words have fallen out of use but are still known.
