Prince Edward thanks people for welcoming him and his wife Sophie to Edinburgh on a day which he describes as “special and slightly overwhelming”.
His comments come as King Charles grants Prince Edward and Sophie the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh title.
The royal couple were in the city to attend an event marking the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine. Report by Roshni Patel.

The real Duke of Edinburgh is the Duke of Buccleuch, Earl of Dalkeith. Dalkeith is the capital of Midlothian, which the city of Edinburgh is found in.

There are no monetary or land benefits. Just the honour of being given his late father’s title and being rewarded for their years of loyal service to the Queen and King Charles.

The only time I think people were as thrilled to hear about new titles as they are today with Edward and Sophie becomeing the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, was when King Charles made William and Catherine Prince and Princess of Wales! Two very deserving and gracious royal couples, I couldn't be happier for them!
charles did not make william prince of wales that is automatic as heir to the throne, he could officially put the welsh crown on his head at an investiture but I don;t think either of them want that, charles did not really enjoy his in 1969, which he has talked about in interviews

Howeve,r it is very clear, that Edward is suffering on a personal level, his level of anxiety is so sad to see. Yet he covers it and puts on a cheery facade to make everyone feel relaxed and happy. Both him and Sophie have lost weight, with Edward's weight loss being very noticeable.
I notice they have lost a bit of their sparkle, but I guess that's to be expected as both grieved terribly the loss of the late Queen.
Edward's anxiety?? Maybe he sees a counselor for that.... regardless, he knows his place, his role, and is fulfilling it with admirable decorum. God bless Duke Edward and Duchess Sophie.

Edward suffers very bad anxiety, he needs his hands free to self soothe himself. Watch what he does with his hands, he's in a state of anxiety and he is using his hands to self soothe.

@@patrickmurphy3179 When he does what he does with his hands, that is a well known way for those that suffer from bad anxiety to try and stop the feelings of anxiety (self soothe). I suffer from it, I do it as well when my anxiety is at it's worse, along with other strategies to help me cope.

I am so glad that Prince Edward was granted the title of Duke of Edinburgh, and Sophie is now a Duchess. For all the work that he and his wife have done for the royals, he deserved that title.
